Player MOD's? Now that BW isn't supporting?

I read a while ago that someone had figured out a way to make Platinum before Platinum was in existance.  I also read somewhere that someone was able to make a "zombie" mode with nothing but husks.

Now that BW isn't supporting game anymore, any chance of these player MOD's being the next thing to keep ME3 MP alive?  I don't know the first thing about MOD's, but MOD's have been what has kept every other MP game alive over the years (CS is a good example...).

Now that BW isn't directly supporting the game, but is however still keeping the server (THEIR server) up, what would their stance be on player MOD's now, a month from now, 6 months from now?  Any chance the MP can be modified to allow 3rd party server hosts which would allow MOD's?  I'm thinking theoretical for the future of this great game....

I still enjoy playing ME3 MP from time to time, but the random nature of the store is turning me off, especially now that the weekend  events are over.  Also, as much as I LOVE this MP game... something else new and exciting is bound to come my way sooner or later... MOD's help keep an "old" MP experience "fresh."  And c'mon... who after all the disapointment of the random nature of the store is still paying RL $$$ for packs?!?!?  It will be interesting to see where this MP experience is 6 months from now... From a logical standpoint, with DLC done and support shutting down, they (BioWare and EA) should allow pretty much anyhitng except obvious cheats (like stuff that makes the game pay out more or considerably easier) to keep interest in the game fueled.

I wouldn't mind seeing community mods become a thing. I'm imagining community created expansions/dlc.

That sounds terrible actually, as I've seen some pretty bad ideas from a lot of people here on the forum, most of which took an axe to the lore. Still, I'd migrate to PC, buying the game a third time, just to try them out. Here's to hoping BW allows this kind of creativity later on down the line.

Edit: Subscribed. I want to see what attention this thread gets and where it goes.

Just because they're not doing any more challenges or balance updates doesn't mean they're not supporting the game.

Define "support"...

No balance changes, no patches, no new content, no weekend challenges; They've made it pretty clear that they're dropping support for this title to work on something else. We'll see the occasional dev here and there on the forums, but that's about it.

By "modding" you're talking about editing coalesced files, which is not, and never should be allowed.

Imagine starting each PUG with no idea which gun/power will be useful or useless because the host altered his/her coalesced to nerf the hell out of the harrier and make his predator one-shot atlases. Or if he tried "experimenting" with spawns to make 50 husks spawn which cripples your game because you don't have 64 gigs of RAM. Or if he buffed his carniflex by 50%, you didn't notice it and ended up playing 4 games in a row with him and then you lose your online pass as well as everyone else that didn't notice...

Just cut the cheating threads, guys. No game experience is enhanced by cheaters unless you're really terrible at playing or your idea of fun does not involve challenge.

PC cheaters

Not what I'm talking about... Not an individual cheating, but rather a skilled programmer creating a new experience with the engine provided.  If you have only ever played console games, then you have NO idea what-so-ever as to how fun a 'WELL MOD'ed' MP game can be...

I'm not talking about cheating (although that will probably be an unwanted side effect long term)... I'm talking about a game mod, something that the community can create based off the great game that we've all come to love.  I used to play TRIBES, and the War Hammer 40k mod's that came out for that game kept it alive for me for a long time.  I used to play CS, and the freeze tag, and other great mods that came out for that game kept it alive for me for a long time.

I'm curious to see what the PC community can come up with to help keep this MP experience alive.

Please, keep the "PC Cheaters" comments to the threads that are holding up cheaters... this thread is discussing quality PC ME3 MP MOD's... something unique that could catch the community's attention and help keep this game 'fresh'.

Should the CS mod's have never modified the VALVE game?
Should the Unreal MOD's have ever existed?
Should the Tribes MOD's have ever attempted to create something unique?

If BW is no longer going to keep the game interesting and unique, then sooner or later, it is going to die.  Player/community based MOD's are what have kept almost all MP games that have ever been popular for over 2-3 years alive.  This is the TOPIC of this discussion... not lame individual hackers....

^Valid points, thou can be easily solved:
- if an edited coalesced is used on a Private match -> OK
- if an edited coalesced is used on a Public match -> Not OK

(EDIT: this was a reply to LandoCalrisian's post below, just meanwhile I wrote it new post were issued.)

@lando : ^ obvious troll or just troll?

this thread is talking about private games in which u invite people (maybe if this comes to be true doing groups for who wants to join might even be a good idea), with coalesced used for other modes, zombie ecc, and not for modifing weapon's stats in normal mode; so u know what kind of game are u joining, and if i remember good the old zombie mod wasn't even giving any credit at all, so yeah no easy credit farming.

what u are talking about it's just what happens in this game from months to this part, kids who cheat in the game. it's totally different and btw the same announcement by bioware, about leaving the support of ME3, have boosted the number of those idiots who force u to leave the game to the sky, i've met more in those 2 days than in the last 2 weeks, probably beacuse there will be no more ban waves ( i hope there will be...but it's pretty hard let's face it. it's a lot of work for bioware and if they are not even making more balance changes...)

OBVIOUSLY bioware will not say ok to this in the official way, but i don't think this will be punished in practice.

So...

Like I said in original post... any way to add a 3rd party launch script to log on to a 3rd party server?  Something that can be say, community sponsored?  I've seen it happen in other successfuly MP games... 3rd party servers that 'do it better'... look at the *clasic* Ulitima Online game... 3rd party servers have kept that game going for generations...

Also, a public mod game could somehow display in death chat-log that the game will not award XP or credits, and that the game is purely for fun.  *possiblity*.

I'm not promoting hacking... I'm not promoting gaining an advantage.  I love this game the way it is... and has been... for over a year... but I'm wondering what is going to keep me playing this game a year from now.... Image IPBImage IPB

Yes, many of Valves #1 games started out as mods, then Valve bought them and made real game of them. Counter-Strike, Team Fortress, Day of Defeat and Dota are all mods from the beginning.

I've always said it and I'll say it again. Go for it.

Mods should be allowed, sure it might have bad side effects of people using mods created by other people for cheating, but the way I see it, it's not that mods exists, it's how people choose to use the mods, and if someone uses a mod to cheat, then that really isn't the mod creators concern.

I'd rather have it and not need it, than not have it and actually need it.

BioWare would have to close the store for mods to work. When the risk to the transaction model is no longer threatened by modded games is the only time that game mods would work.

Did any of this mentioned games reward you with credits for "permanent" Gear/Weapons?

I am OK with any kind of mods for ME3 as long they don't get rewarded with Credits or XP.

Well, i can see why BioWare or EA would be reluctant when it comes to blessing mod'ed games - after all, if a larger portion of the games played get flagged server side as "illegal" because they are modded, even though they are not per se cheats, it will become a lot harder to catch actual cheaters.

Again, thats assuming that they are still looking out for cheaters at all.

With the wave spawn budgets as well as enemy damage and health/shield/barrier/armor values known, it is perfectly possible to mod a game to present the same challenge and take up as much time (and pay out) as a "regular" game will be expected to do while offering completely different gameplay.

The "ZombieMod" comes to mind here: Wether a spawn and wave budget is consumed by 3 Cannibals, 3 Marauders and 2 Brutes or the equivalent of their combined health at any one time Husks and Abominations shouldn't matter.

Yeah, when I think on modding, first thought is  on Neverwinter Nights.
Bioware,does it ring some bells?
