Question is in the title. The game is exactly the same as it is now, you could still be friends with your crew. It's just that everybody on the Normandy has Friendzoned poor old Shep.

I'm just curious because I know how much romance adds to the game as well as how many Romance fans (Tali's, Garrus, Kaidan, Liara etc) are out there. It also is one of the things the game is known for and it adds depth to the characters.

So what would you do? Not buy the series at all?
Buy it, play through it once then sell it/never go on it again?
Or begrundingly play knowing you won't have hot blue alien sex again? (EDIT: ThIs was meant as a joke, I wasn't implying people would play through it simply for the sex scene)

Personally, I'd still play the game it just wouldn't be my favourite game series anymore and I'd be less inclined to run through the series as many times as I have now.

EDIT: I saw this question briefly mentioned whilst on another topic on the DA wiki and the response seemed to be that they'd play the Game once then leave it. I was just curious what this fanbase response was to the question was.

I've created a Poll because I'd like too see what the actually view was on it. Here's the link to the Poll. social.bioware.com/4040154/polls/44740/

Yes...I think it's the best sci-fi game I've ever played.

I remember the first playthrough of ME1 I didn't even know there were romances.

I didn't even realize you could talk that much with your crew.

Needless to say...ME was my first "true" rpg I ever played.

What a weird question. I don't think a lot of people buy its for the blue boobs. That might help them make the decision of buying, but that's not what players want the most in ME, obviously.

Well the only thing that cought my eye was romances when I read a review of Mass Effect... Before I just thought, "oh that's just some generic rpg in space". Thanks to that I tried to play ME1 and loved it since...

Before ME I was a huge Final Fantasy fan... I cannot decide if Final Fantasy VII (been my favourite since it's release in 1997) or Mass Effect is the best game I've ever played...

ME is more than the romance side of the game. I would be as emotionally invested, but I'd still have played the games.

Yes, but TBH, as much as anyone claims "romance isn't a big part of the game", the draw of this game is character interaction, not plot or combat. Interacting with interesting characters that we get attached to is what everyone loves about this game - it would be strange to have a game like that without being able to become involved romantically.

Exactly, was why I asked the question.

There was no bromance option for Zaeed in the first place, so yeah. Obviously I would.

Probably, though the characters would have lost of bit of depth. Romance and sexuality are a big part of who we are as people.

I don't really mind. I play games outside of Bioware games, and most of them have no romance. It would not play it if it only has straight romances and not gay romances though. It's just something I expect out of Bioware games to include options for everyone, I suppose.

As long as it still had a female protagonist... Sure!

Fun fact: I played through ME1 3 times before I even knew you could romance people.

Looking back on everything now, taking out the romances would have fixed a lot of the problems... BioWare couldn't handle it in the end.

Yes....it's about saving the galaxy and there are other ways to gain close relationships.

It's not only about who you can get in bed.

Sure (other things notwithstanding...), didn't even know there was any when I started playing (bought ME2 on an almost-whim with a spare Amazon gift voucher). When I first bought it I was hoping to avoid it anyway, thinking that romance in a game was an utterly stupid idea anyway. The fact that it completely changed my mind and added a lot of depth is probably beside the point.

Yes. The only romance I did was Samantha. Without her I would've never romanced anyone.

Yes. I think romance isn't very important. My favorite Dragon Age game is Awakening, the one without romance options. Hell, my favorite video game of all-time is Super Mario World, and the romance in that game is shallow at best.

I can't think of any game I've bought where dating (to put it politely) side characters was the big draw for me. I don't mind it, although I think Bioware games place too much emphasis on it, but it's not a central issue for me.

probably easier to swallow for some if you didn't .... avoid the whole " settle down " thing or whatever

and yes. i would just go through saying " do her, do him, wouldn't do her " the whole time

When I first got ME2 (which lead to me buying ME1) I didn't even know there was romance in it. So yeah, it wouldn't change anything. Maybe alter some of my attachment to certain characters, but only a little.

I only do the romances because they are there, so I would definitely still buy and play ME.

Well, I have issues with the plot of ME2 and ME3 (I don't want to work with Cerberus, or recruit Jack or recruit Grunt but the game doesn't give you a choice in working with terrorists, or waste time in ME3 rescuing random quarian civilians when building the Crucible is all that matters), and I think that I would be much less motivated to play the game again without the characters we know and love - regardless of whether they are LIs.
