Would you buy and still play the ME Series if it DID NOT have Romances in?^.

Sure. I'm not really that "into" the romances, and I've decided that my final canon Shepard won't even have one.

I'm actually more interested in the romances for the extra dialogue and depth they open up than for the romantic content per se. In ME2, it adds to the sense of Shepard's resilience if the LI is the Virmire Survivor, and perhaps to some extent Liara too, in that Shepard has to continue the mission without them and knowing that the relationship might well be broken. And in ME1, I really liked the scene where Shepard talks with the LI about having stolen the Normandy to go after Saren. In fact, it really annoys me that it just doesn't happen if you aren't romancing anybody at the time. The first part of it still could have made sense with a non-romanced squadmate, just like the scene at Shepard's locker after the Normandy gets grounded.

Anyway, I mostly see the romances as just another narrative choice to explore. I guess I felt some investment in the MShep/Tali romance, but I also felt like it didn't quite work. Tali looks up to Shepard so much that it didn't feel like a true relationship of equals. Also, the dialogue choices for achieving geth/quarian peace in ME3 work fine if Shepard *isn't* romancing Tali, but if he is, he may be making a life-and-death decision for the most important person in his life, and the dialogue doesn't really capture that.

You get two points for including Benedict Cumberbatch :D

It's been intresting to see peoples reaction. A lot seem to think it would off been better without whilst others thought they would but it wouldn't be as good. Hmm..

The romances are nice, but I don't think they are essential. Most of the close friendships with characters are better than the romance relationships anyway -- Liara and Garrus in particular. I like that you don't need a romance to feel a strong bond with the characters, something that I think is missing the Dragon Age series.

Thank you... bioware will never catch the brother feeling I got with Garrus. No Shepard without Fu)*(09ing Vakarian.

Probably not, because its nice to have a love story with characters you are actually interested in for a change. Sure they could have put more effort into all to bring them equally comparitively to what they gave Liara, but it was a good move to include them in the first place.

It's a nice addition but I wouldn't have missed it if it wasn't already there. I didn't romance anyone with my first Shepard, and she was still a great character to play.

Still, the Garrus tango scene is priceless.

Then don't make peace; seems like an easy solution.

In terms of how consistent the plot was? Eh. The characters made the game for me and the romance included, I loved Jack's whole arc, except for the whole teacher thing, it felt a bit off in terms of it happening in a period of 6 months, but overall, her and Shepard were why I enjoyed the series, not really the story.

Certainly not. Generic Shooters hold no interest for me. No romance,no party interaction means no interest.

Yes.
I don't think romances are as important to me as much as characters I like and good friendships with them.

Yes, but I wouldn't be as invested in the story. Romances add a different level of immersion and are one of the ways I define and roleplay my different Shepards.

The only reason I like romance is because it allows for more content and deeper insight into characters. I'm sure they could still do that while completely removing the romantic aspect. So, yes, I would.

Seeing as how I never f*ck with BioWare romances, yeah. To be honest, I think the games would be (narratively) stronger without them.

Edit: Now why did I have to scroll in this thread and see that visually offensive dude? God was angry when he made that white man's face.

I would play and replay it in the same way I did, romance is a minor part for me. If I recall it right, I don't even new romance was possible when I started playing ME1, it's not what draw me to the franchise, and it's not what keep me playing...

Romance adds a nice emotional aspect to the story and with multiple options it gives a lot to subsequent play throughs, but it's not a deal breaker.

Yes, absolutely. The first time I played ME2, I wasn't even really looking to romance anyone. Well, when Tali was all sweet about me, I did romance her, but that was like a "Why not?"-moment, and it happened so late into the game when I was already totally hooked into it.

Sure, the romances were not that important for me.
