But I'm a bad person (and I've read tons of topic about sexism in this forum...) and what caught my attention is tomorrow , part 2 , will be about "themes Dragon Age 3 will explore...".
OMG...very very vague info about DA3!Yes!
Thanks for the link JediHealerCosmin.

My pleasure
I always keep an eye on RPS and I'll update this thread when the next interview comes along.

LOL, Gaider reminds me of Elthina here: "you overestimate my power". Psht. While the topic is interesting, I don't have the feeling that I've read anything new or truly promising. It came down to "we're trying not to oversexualize our women without reason". And then there was a picture of DA2 Flemeth. LMAO.
Bioware has done some good things wen it comes to female characters, but they're not there yet. Female Hawke's running animation, Isabela's implants, Flemeth's extreme make-over, those things all indicate that sometimes the oversexualization wins.
Btw, I do think Isabela's writing and character is excellent, and I can understand a certain degree of sexuality being expressed in the way she dresses, but I think that would have worked better with breasts that were not the size and shape of basketballs.

I don't know if you were around the BSN during those months between the announcement of DA2 and the actual release, but at first glance there was a massive cry about Isabela bassically being Miranda. Her story did indeed shove away most that, but you are right, they just aren't there yet.

As a disclaimer, I would not consider a 1,000 year old blue, mono-gendered alien without hair but big boobs (Samara) who shuts you down because of a samurai code to be "female" in this case.

I personally thought that Flemeth's makeover was pretty cool. She is still obviously old yet she's allowed to dress in sexy clothes without anyone mocking her or saying thet she's gross. Old women can be sexy too but often it seems that when women pass a certain age they're no longer allowed to be that way.

FWIW I'll agree that BioWare is generally more progressive than most of the industry (in fact, probably the most progressive in the industry) but they still have a ways to go.

Until Bioware includes a classically attractive female companion that you cannot have sex with, then they still have a long way to go to be as progressive and some would claim.

Velanna. Everyone seems to forget Velanna. But I guess she'd have been romancable if Awakening did romance, just like Nathaniel.
How many conventionally attractive men, other than nathaniel, have there been that you can't romance, anyway?

Since Jimmy said "have sex with" I'm gonna say Sebastian. Chaste marriage ftw!
And Awakening had no romances whatsoever, so perhaps it's not entirely fair to count Velanna. I can say Nathaniel then as well for the guys.
Edit: LOL, you sneaky edit.

I like his comments about Isabela. Yeah, she was sexualized - and it was intentional. Quite right too. I can't even imagine her dressing any other way, to be honest. It suited her character perfectly. The voice actress also did a great job. However, the overly large breasts are a bit excessive and give the impression that Isabela is male eye candy. umm, they don't even look natural...
I agree. And I noticed they didn't bring up Brthany at all. I would have liked to see what he had to say about that, especially as they only decreased her bust size after the huge outroar that the BSN made.

I thought that was a visual flair by Varric for the story backdrop of legendary hawke though...

"ample" Bethany, they decided to make fun of what they did, so it was
treated as a joke.
edit: quoting issues

Ok.
So why do they have to address it again?

...things! Important things!
The idea that Bioware has the mindset, according to this interview, of including more gamers of varying sexes and sexuality. In order to make all members of these groups feel at ease and comfortable, there is "more to be done."
And, in terms of Samara, she is neither human nor female, so I am not sure what exactly her behaviors do to advance either the feeling of including women or making them anything more than companion sexbots. If Bioware made a game with an Isabella companion who could not be digitally sexed, then that might be a step to breaking this mold.
And in regard to males you cannot have sex with, here are the following:
Varric (smooth talking, hairy chested dude
Vega (for all the fans of buff, spray tan type)
Sebastian (I'm too holy to hold hands)
Mordin (the guy is a genius, is funny and can sing - tell me that doesn't make him attractive to some ladies)
Sten (big, huge, tan warrior with dreds... I've seen a few female fan fics to see where this is going)
I have a feeling there is more, but I think I've made a decent argument. The only two female examples are Samara (again, not female and it human) and then Aveljne and Wynne, who would not be considered "traditionally" attractive.
