I think I know what the final DA game is going to be about and what the final boss will be: a greater pride demon.

It will be about a pride demon. Specifically, a greater pride demon.

http://dragonage.wik...onic_Possession

"A greater pride demon, brought across the veil, would threaten the entire world."

All the death and magic used during the giant mage-chantry war is probably going to tear the veil badly enough that a great pride demon will finally be able to pass through to the real world. Considering a greater pride demon is a literal "end of the world" event, it will probably be the greatest threat in the history of Thedas, one that could make a mere blight look like a picnic. It would take an alliance of main characters to defeat (Warden, Hawke, DA3 protagonist), and would cause the world itself to practically become a giant veil wound that makes the fade pretty much fall onto the real world... Bringing and untold number of demons over. The worlds would blend so much that the real world pretty much becomes the fade, which could cause "the magic to come back" as told by Sandal in DA2, because even non-mages would experience the fade by that point.

It would be epic, world changing, and a bit scary. A perfect final game to end DA on. You couldn't get a better climax.

I think that for those of us who've enjoyed the DA franchise, our best hope is that the next game will sell well, win back some gamers who were letdown with the last games content, earn some critical praise, and make new fans opt to try it out. I would like to see the franchise continue, and perhaps eventually incorporate and/or build off of more of the interesting lore that was in lesser degrees only hinted at back in Origins. Speculation is great, but wild possibilities can only go so far!

Uh... Duh? I specifically said that the events of DA3 is what will lead into the scenario this thread is about, as in the giant war world war going on in Inquisition. The war in DA3 will cause so much death and such wanton use of magic that the veil will be opened enough for a greater pride demon to emerge near the end of DA3 or the beginning of DA4, and THAT will cause things to get even worse until the veil may as well not even exist anymore and the fade falls into the real world, and the game after Inquisition will be that scenario of you dealing with that happening and having to kill the greater pride demon at the end... If my guess is right.

Though to be honest, it might be later then DA4 when it happens. I don't know how many games it could actually take for the veil to open enough for the end-of-the-world event that is a greater pride demon crossing over to happen. I just think that it will happen eventually, and that will be the grand final of the series.

I'm fairly sure we already killed one of the greatest pride demons, Hybris. Archdemons also threaten the entire world, but we've brought down one of those too.

Hybris was not one. I didn't see that thing being a walking end-times cataclysm.

We don't see abominations each being a threat to wipe out whole squads, either. The Codex has a tendency to exaggerate the strength of demons.

Some abominations can though. Not all, but some. Single revenant can decimate an entire squad easily, as can an arcane horror. Uldred was a pride abomination, and look at how troublesome he turned out. Ggaxkang was like a super pride abomination, capable of turning into a revenant and an arcane horror and can give even a level 20 Warden trouble. The sloth demon (abomination in the real world) was pretty much invincible so long as no one had the enormousness fortitude to get to it in the fade, and could probably have put any number of people into sleep and use each one to further power the dream world. A SINGLE abomination can wipe out an entire village right in Origins itself (Connor to Redcliffe, and the entire village's population is killed if you don't help).

Yes most aren't much of a threat, only capable of swinging their fists at you like a drunken moron. But some... Some can be extraordinarily powerful, as strong as the codex says. The reason abominations are considered such a large threat is you never know if it's one of the pathetic ones or one of the really bad ones, so its best to play it safe and assume they're all the bad ones. The codex is quite right about how dangerous abominations are, because it's unpredictable as to what a abomination can turn out like. The thing about a greater pride demon is likely not overstated.

Well, if Bioware runs out of ideas on how to defeat said demon, we could always construct a 'crucible' to take it out.

My ancestors better be able to import the DA saves that will be passed down my family for generations to come. I am concerned that Bioware still won't have addressed what happend to my Warden along with the OGB and Morrigan.

@Bouncy

Just... No. No. NO! No...

I'd like to believe DA's writers won't write themselves into corner to have to do something like that like the ME writers did. Besides, keep the ME bashing to the forum for it, don't drag that onto this forum.

If greater pride demons aren't overstated, than they're likely about as powerful as an archdemon. Potential final boss material, but not the most powerful thing we as gamers have ever encountered.

Most powerful thing a gamer can encounter? When did I claim that? That's impossible anyway, I've played games where you fight reality warping gods and your character is the size of a planet and blows up literal stars thrown by the final boss (Asura's wrath), games where you fight planet-parasites that can end the entire world in minutes (Chrono Trigger), games where you fight the queen of paradise/Heaven and kill it by punching its soul into the sun (Bayonetta).

I merely said the most powerful thing in the DA series yet, not the most powerful thing ever fought in a video game.

Why don't we make a bunch of bosses based off the seven deadly sins if we are going to do pride?

Because DA doesn't have a "7 deadly sins", and there is a clear tier list of power among those that are there (rage>hunger>sloth>desire>pride), and greater versions of demons weaker then pride in power are far weaker then even a non-greater standard pride demon.

Not a bad idea. I wouldn't mind seeing what DA could do with a gluttony demon.

It will be a multidimensional demon conglomerate that will show the folly of capitalism.

I don't know that this is end-of-series material, but it would be a pretty cool plot for a game, I'd agree.

Spirited Away is supposed to be a children's movie and all, but damn.

So it'll be the end of the dragon age and the begging of the magic age?

That's what I meant too. I don't think it'd be the most powerful thing in the DA series yet.

Had to google this. I wonder how many parents thought this would be a good flick for their kids only to realize that might have not been the best course of action.

Edit: Upon further thought, the demon possessed child in Jade Empire was very interesting, if not also disturbing dependant on how you dealt with the situation as it was with Conor in DA:O.
