You need to buy points to get the DLC...for instance buy 560 points = $7 for wardens keep in the download section of the game.

You can also buy stuff in the game like potions and stuff. I hear there will be new DLC items coming on a regular interval for a long time to come. :-)

If i have to pay for dlc i would much rather just pay and not waste time purchasing points then getting the dlc

points systems annoy me xD

Thats the main reason i prefer playstation store over xbox marketplace for example =P

I also raise my hand.

I am going to wait until I see this system function before I pass judgement, but I have some serious reservations about it.

Hopefully my fears are unfounded.

Well so far it hasn't pissed me off like xbox...at least when i needed to buy a 560 point DLC I had an option to just buy 560 points, unlike the xbox system...you need 160 points to buy this...you can either buy 120 points or 500...

The mention of 'Bioware Points' had me raise an eyebrow in consternation. It reminds me of EA's Sims Store a little too much for my liking; hopefully, this system will prove different and at least match quality with money's worth.

When I saw that achievements in game were worth a certain amount of points, I thought that maybe those might be uploaded to the online profile to 'purchase' some content at a later date.  Apparently not.

I smell the stink of future micro-transaction. I get the feeling that these same points may be used to buy small items, vanity or not, from SWTOR in the future.

You can undress game characters with these points, 50bp per cloth item.

You'll also be able to use these points in Mass Effect 2 (if you like that sort of thing).

well to tell you the truth all this extra cost bs is all the fault of the foolish WOW players. thats right i said it but its true.you wow players don't realize the can of worms you opened up . there are already bad things happening with games some are ending because the money not coming in like they told the investors it would .more and more games are starting to make games pay to play. its got to stop the game companies used to make plenty of money from us b4. but i fear an ugly cloud coming . but most of the blame does go to blizzard. and i pray they don't make diablo 3 pay to play .because i would of been waiting eagerly for so long for a game i will never play.I'm on a mission to reverse the way its been going ,i will never PAY TO PLAY I'm tired of just being a $ sign to these companies. i'm done venting ... for now .my mission has almost started it just needs wheels put on to start moving . more info when that time is upon us.

Just more console nonsense, I believe the original intention of attaching points to achievements was to allow you to compare you progress or skill with a friend, but the way acheivements are in DA makes that meaningless.

I don't mind the system (although Bioware points are bad as they're presumably tied to one currency so if you don't buy them with that you could lose money if  you don't spend them immediately), but the extra content itself is a joke. Ridiculously value for money - £5 (20% of the price of the game) for an extra 45 minutes of play and two or three unique items is just silly. And given the highlight of DA is that everything is interconnected the current extra content just doesn't work. I spotted many places that watcher's keep should have been integrated with the game but wasn't.

Unless they radically turn their extra content policy around then I won't be buying any more and I hope it fails badly.

Well, ultimately, you could just wait for a GOTY edition, which will include all the DLC with it.  Generally that cost will be the same as when the game was new, and all you have to do is wait a year or so for that version.

Don't get me wrong, I do not support this system.  I was excited at first because I thought my achievments were tied into the points on the website.  So you play the game, you get some points, and you use them to get more stuff.  But as someone said, microeconomics.  No offense to you Bioware, but they are looking to get a little more money here and there.  I do agree with So Sweet, I rather just pay actual money for the DLC than to buy points.

Did this point system happen before or after Bioware was purchased by EA?

It's EA related, apparently someone bought points and received an email thanking him for buying points for...the sims 2...

Oops Bioware/EA, busted.

From what I read you can buy the exact number of points for the DLC you want so my guess is that EA/Bioware made this so they could regionalize the cost of points. Probably 7$ for the US and 7euros for Europe for the same product.

Well we knew what we were getting into when EA bought Bioware, I hope for Bioware that they sold their souls for a good price at least...

:o I am astonished why Bioware/EA would bring Microsoft's obscure point system to PC and PS3 game players.  I can sort of understand if Bioware had base their point system on USD or CAD, where 100 point = $1.  Even adopting gift card approach, where balance is base on the actual currency instead of artificially invented conversion system, would have made much more sense.    Ultimately, I rather pay the price directly without dealing with what the points equal to in dollar, must buy points before you can buy the download content, or leftover points.  By not making purchase easy and simple to understand you are just losing out on potential download content customers.

I guess this following example might explain why they do it this way:

Let's say I want to buy the ME2 Appearance pack for 160 Bioware Points. That would be 1.34EUR or 2$ I think. BUT I must purchase at least 400 Points for 3.49EUR or 5$. So now i have 240 Points left but I don't want to buy anything else, so Bioware/EA/whoever just sold me a 2$ item for 5$.

I'm not sure, but I guess I couldn't get a refund for leftover points, or could I?
