Which would you prefer? DAI will sport a full on next gen engine, it will be run on consoles of decent power (enough that their specs match the recommended ultra specs for Crysis 3) so everything is possible...

The possibilities are endless for the artists to take ANY path so will it he photorealism or Style?

Would you rather have DAI to be more like the witcher (in its looks) or Darksiders? Crysis or Gears of war? Metro or Bioshock?

Gritty realism fits Dragon Age far more. Probably why I think Origins looks better then 2 even if it's technically far inferior graphically, because Origins had a more realistic and gritty look that fit the series. Not to say that I always prefer realistic graphics. I just like a graphic style that fits the setting, and for DA, gritty and realistic is it.

In terms of appearance, stylised games always seem to stray into looking somewhat childish to me, a style which doesn't fit with the themes of DA, so I'd definitely go with photorealism.

it is classified as a dark rpg, so having da2 come out so cartoony was a wtf moment. Keep it gritty and depressing.

I like realism but I don't like more detail than the eye can see or more detail than is normal. I also like it being a little cartoony like DAO but with better models.

I can live with either as long as the game runs smoothly, it always depends for me on how the developer uses their art assets and I do think Dragon Age: Origins looked better then Dragon Age 2 on the PC, I found from watching friends play Dragon Age 2 had less issues on the consoles (of course art was probably not the only reason).

I'd like the meshes to be kept realistic while the colour scheme an such can be as heavily stylized as they want. Kind of like The Walking Dead, Prince of Persia (2008) or Dishonored, where the game looks like drawings or paintings of real-life stuff.

I would like the game to be more stylized myself, tends to lend to much more interesting and memorible designs.

Origins, Awakening, and Dragon age 2 all had a styalized look to them, and i'd like that to continue.

I personally prefer the stylized look. "Gritty realism" is boring. When you compare screenshots of COD, BF, and all the other "modern shooters", they all look the same.

I'd rather not have that same problem with Dragon Age, Witcher, et al.

I personally like both....I mean I loooooved the scenery porn spectacle that was crysis 3.....but I cannot help but always be drawn to stylish designs like gears...especially in fantasy games (like darksiders 1/2)

I tend to come down on the side of realism. But stylised can be good, if it's done in a way that fits the setting and serves the story. And doesn't mean giant shoulder pads on the armour.

We've been told that they want to avoid "subdued colour palette and harsh brown feel" typical of much current fantasy media.. Which is fine for somewhere like the Orlesian court, though we also need to be able to do an alienage that feels like a bad place to live/

I would err on the side of realistic, but I would prefer that no one break their backs striving for photo realism. If they have an engine that can do amazing things, I would rather they take the South Park approach.

South Park has some of the most powerful animation tools in the market the allows them to create content at an insanely fast pace. This allows South Park to make an episode that talks about events in the news not even a few weeks old, since they use a rocket launcher to kill a mosquito in terms of tools used to content created.

If Bioware could leverage a similar increase in graphic ability to give us not lifelike characters, but character renderings of the same level, but with the ability to create tons of varied content for choices, circumstances and expressions, then they can set an entirely new bar in terms of the video game industry. If they instead go for realistic hair and character renderings that approach the uncanny valley, but with too much production value to allow for lots of divergence, then I think that may be a very wrong direction.

I would love more photorealistic graphics, but either way I'm satisfied as long as the character models and customization are great.

I preferred DAII's art style myself. The only thing "gritty" about Dragon Age origins' art style is that the textures were so bleh that they almost looked like someone had taken the textures that were originally meant to go in the game and covered them in coffee grit. There's more to creating a moody atmosphere than restricting the artists' color palletes to shades of brown.

I love a combination of the both, looking dark and gritty but stylized at the same time like Alan wake, God of War, Killzone, Red Dead Redemption. I dont understand why people say that Origins was gritty and realistic, I thought it was just plain dull.

Since it's fresh in everyone's mind, I'd say something like BioShock. It's stylized but not so much so that it appears cartoonish, it still works to portray darker scenes / themes without appearing too cartoonish that it ruins atmosphere.

Gritty realism, like DA:O's style. DA2 was a little cartoony to me.

we're probably going to be in orlais right? Then I definitly want stylized, bright colours flashy cloths ridiculous characters. There are too many attempts at realism and they don't hold up as well over time. It doesn't mean that the game has to be downright cartoony but I definitly prefer stylized.

So everyone wanting stylized, what do you consider stylized? I consider DA:O realistic and gritty, and is my baseline for saying that's how I want DA:I to be. DA2 was too stylized for my taste. But those of us saying realistic don't mean the already-mentioned Call of Duty games level of realism... Not in my case at least.

I'm just wanting to get a better idea of what people want with this question.

I'd like it more if it were stylized. Especially if realism simply means "more brown/grey". I don't think that more colorful art styles take away from the seriousness of the game and make it childish I mean look at Tell Tale's the Walking Dead game, Bioshock, Darksiders, Gears of War, Final Fantasy, etc. You don't need to make everything brown to make a serious game.

GOW = stylized but detailed
Crysis 3 = photorealistic
Daeksiders = comic book stylized

The GOW approach would do it for me

You know what I think would be amazing? If DAI has the same graphics and style as Dawn of the Seeker. I actually really like the more cartoony graphics than more realistic ones. Wind Waker and Ni No Kuni are some of my favorite games ever, and I highly enjoyed Dawn of the Seeker.
