I have high hopes as I really like what Patrick has written for the ME series. I'm looking forward to this.

Also looking forward to see how Weekes's writing style compares to Gaider's. So far I really enjoyed the books, especially the first two volumes since it really added nicely to DA:O after my playthroughs. So, now I hope that "Asunder" as well as the upcoming book will also add some more information to the story/background of some characters to come in DA:I
And I personally am not worried about the release date. I don't really think that the book's and game's release date have anything to do with each other

I doubt we're dealing with another Deception. Patrick isn't just a good writer who has written several great arcs in ME, he's on the DA3 writing team now. So we will likely have good characters in good plots with minimal lore breaking. Sounds good to me =)Swagger7 wrote...
Preorder-wait..... What's this? It isn't written by David Gaider. Hm. Will wait for reviews.

Let's just hope the change in writer doesn't create something similar to Deception (that book was just hearbreaking to say the least), but at least Patrick is a talented writer familiar with the franchise

On topic, though, that cover is interesting. The scissors and all those sets of hands and the crown not actually on her head... wonder what it could all mean.
Also, I feel like my interest in Dragon Age is waning dangerously low. If the book was coming out sooner, that might remedy that. Might. Maybe. We'll see, I guess. Not really into political intrigue. I might enjoy it more from the viewpoint of a rebel...

I really have to wonder about this, when Mass effect got a new guy for the novel it went reaaaal bad. I like both Drew karpyshyn and David Gaiders novels and love the worlds they take place in, i really hope this new guy knows the lore inside out and it gets properly fact checked before going public.
The "new guy" they got to write Mass Effect: Deception (I - perhaps forunately - have never read it) was a complete outsider to BioWare who didn't bother doing his homework from what I've read.
Patrick, on the other hand, has worked within BioWare for several years and has proven himself to be a terrific and engaging writer whose work is always consistent with established lore. He's also now working on Inquisition, so he'll have had plenty of time to familiarise himself with the Dragon Age mythos if he wasn't acquainted with it already.
Being a good games writer doesn't always translate well when writing novels, but Patrick also has book-writing experience. He penned "The Palace Job" which (once again, while I haven't read it) is by all accounts a captivating, witty tale down the line of Terry Pratchett's work.
So, in short, we've got every reason to be optimistic about The Masked Empire.

I'm sorry, every time someone mentions Empress Celene I think of Celine Dion... I wish they would have chosen a different name...
That's my name.
When I was in school a really annoying kid kept on screaming "Céliiiiiiine Dioooooooooon" everytime he saw me.
The worst part is there's a french song called " Céline."(about an old single woman) ,I had a teacher (an old single woman^^)who from time to time sang this song to the whole class. While singing she always looked at me with a creepy smile.I had this teacher for 3 years...
Anyway it would be nice if the game is released this summer. But the date could be a place holder.:s
I remember David Gaider had only a few months to write his books , so one whole year seems very long.

Aaaaaw that sucked! Also, creepy teacher. I didn't mean to say I don't like the name, just that it reminds me of Celine Dion. Which isn't bad per se either, just... she embarasses me because I'm from Quebec too, and we're not all excitable like her, lol. And I have a friend named Celine too, but she never ever went by that name because of Celine Dion too lol.
I think if the book was released this summer it would get me more interested in the game. I'm not excited yet...

My character wanted to be a lover of Empress!
Don't worry, for Orlesians lovers are like boxes of chocolate.
The next one is always the sweetest.

Oh, I wasn't trying to disparage Patrick. It's just that there are some authors whose work I know I will like, and DG is one of them. I saw a new DA novel and thought it was by him. When I discovered that it wasn't I went back into my normal procedure for authors I don't know of waiting to see if I'm interested.

He might be within Bioware but not on Dragon Age, so i will stay cautious. What parts of Mass effect did he write anyway?

Pretty much every good part of ME3 was written by Patrick Weekes (Tuchanka and Rannoch).

Patrick freaking Weekes? YES!
I say that as someone who has enjoyed David Gaider's novels and comics; being enthusiastic about a new writer for a DA novel is no poor reflection on Mr. Gaider. It's just that Mr. Weekes has been my favourite writer in Mass Effect and I'm really excited about the prospect of him working on Dragon Age.
Agreed, if he does as good of a job on the book as he did on some of the ME stuff the series will be in good hands. Also having him on the DA team will strengthen an already strong stable of writers.

@Ultimashade if its just random city elves of course they will get themselves killed. Vulkin Mahariel knows that the if the Dalish are involved they wont let them lose. That is why he approves +100.

Wade Tabris is intrigued by the possibilities of this novel...
As I mentioned on a separate thread, it would be nice to find some third way through this thorny issue.
