Worth it? That's...not really how I looked at it. BotB was a goal, something to work towards. Right now, I'd be thrilled if said challenge were unfinished so I'd still have an objective to make progress on.

The banner itself isn't particularly purty.  Femshep is more tasteful than the base one, but neither compares to some of the other options.  But the feeling of incrementally working towards it bit by bit and knowing I was making progress...that was so satisfying.

Personally, I'm going for it. I have Map Mastery and Solo Mastery left to go.

The gold solos will suck. I'm leaving them until the end so I'll have as many URs unlocked as possible first. Everything else is just grinding if you can complete even a single gold wave on any given map while helping to kill at least one enemy with whatever power/weapon you're using.

Hell, in theory someone could get N7 mastery just by spending real $$$ and buying recruit packs, and never play a match.

/has spent no real money on MP

Just cheat.  Kroguard with Armored Compartments vs Geth on Giant.  That's what all my friends who hate soloing did.  You can get cleartimes not too far off your average Gold PUG run.  Reegar with Incendiary if you REALLY hate solos.

Speaking fer m'self, the real limiting reagent was the massive number of 200 wave requirements.  The weapons and powers were easy peasy.  N7 Mastery just required promoting all but one level 20 at the end of the night.  Spectre and Combat Mastery came by just playing naturally and perhaps paying a little more attention to grabs or melee.

It was the 200 waves that took eons.  So really, if you're going for BoTB then don't try to force it.  Don't solo grind Golds with specific weapons or powers.  That's not what's going to be holding you up in the long run.  Some weapon challenges, like the SMG mastery, feel really painful.  But it's basically possible to get that whole thing done while doing a single 200 wave component.  And there are a LOT of 200 wave challenges.  Enough that you could missile-speed run through 90% of them never firing your gun or using a power and that would still probably take longer than the weapon or power based challegnes.

I agree that the 200 wave were the worst. I tried to make sure I was completing those while also using whatever weapons I needed points for.

I'll look into the Geth/Giant solo. Sounds just cheesy enough to work!

The N7 challenge ruins this for me. I just hate re-leveling in MP, the only time I did it in the past was for weekend challenges so there's no way in h*** I'm gonna do this boring crap 60 times!

I think it was a sort of completionist pseudo OCD that made me go for the banner more than anything else. You don't need to do 200 waves of the various kits to know if you like them or not, so I'd only get the banner if you think it'll bring some sense of accomplishment or at least make the voices go away.

Banners are good for 2 things personal satisfaction of completing it and the annoyance of having to use crappy guns and crappy kits. I remembered how much I hated this when I went for reckoning banner. It didn't help that most or the guns I had to get 200k with were bad. Don't do it for status do it because you are having fun. I didn't have fun with 75% of the banners and now with the contest ones out I never wear the BOTB much anyway.

Yeah its definitely for the challenge, not for the banner or boasting rights that I did it. I would have tried all the weapons and classes anyway, but for some of them 200 waves were painful (I'm talking to you Quarian Marksman). At least a volus can cloak. ;)

Go for it. But please, do not create a thread on the forum about new botb player after you complete it. It is stupid.

Technically I don't have it, I just need to complete five more waves with my drell assassin and then promote 33 more charatcers. In terms of whether or not it is worth it, I'd say it is certainly worth the challenge. I personally think the journey has made me an excellent player. It got me to try new weapons, new characters, using powers that I wouldn't often use, etc. It is a rediculous grind and it does take a little bit of strategy (i.e. If you want to use a weapon, check to see if it has another challenge in the DLC/ alien mastery challenges, this way you can get both the stock weapon challenge and an alien challenge out of the way, use the same logic for 10 extractions and 200 waves completed and even biotic and tech mastery). Still, I'm excited to get mine.

Sorry -- I know the subject line says "Pls comment if you have it" but I can't resist. I have NO interest in going for this banner but as one of the less skilled average players I thought I'd mention that the Lone Wolf banner is just as impressive to me as the BOTB. That plus X-level ultra-rare weapons. I'm happy when someone with this stuff comes into the lobby -- most often things go much more smoothly with experienced people.

Now that I have had enough time to get in the right frame of mind it is time for an anecdote.

I told Tali I was Best of the Best. Then we banged, ok? She said "IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT"

Go for it. It's a good chance to use kits that you would not normally use.

The only thing I hated about trying to get it was the 60 promotions... And even though I dislike the banner being titled BOTB, I still wear it to signify myself as the completionist I am in lobbies full of tryhards who wish they had half my manifest.

Woth it :)

That banner just brings truckloads of women to my house everynight. My neighbors keep calling the police because of all the women swooning over my new banner.

I think I'll give it a shot. I did the math and if things go well I need about 135 games and 22 promotions to get it so it shouldn't be that bad. However, it may just take awhile.

The only challenge that was boring to me was the commando challenge. I found out that the geth plasma smg wasn't that bad, and neither was the hornet. Some characters are suprisingly good that i'd never consider using before.

I love to play this game - so for me it was some grind, but not that terrible. If you love to play you will get the BotB. Eventually.

I got it. Its worth it because now I can focus on other things such as real life.
