Best developed romance - Garrus.
Best romance story-wise - Ashley

I also agree story-wise that Shep/Ash romance is best, but it's underdeveloped.  It had so much potential considering where they both started, their history, their backgrounds.  Seeing as how she was pretty much missing in ME2, Bioware could have used the opportunity to make up for it in ME3, and while they did ok, they really didn't come through.

It was nice to see Ash let her hair down and relax a bit in ME3 though.

Favorite single game romance: Jack in ME2
Favorite series long romance: Kaidan or Ashley

I like to have some conflict in my romances, these have conflict. The other romances I've experienced are all sunshine and roses for the most part. I remember playing ME2 for the first time with my FemShep who romanced Kaidan in ME1, after Horizon I was genuinely worried that I'd lost him for good. I doubt many other romances have this experience. It's just a personal preference. I love conflict!Image IPB

Agreed, I came away with the same feeling after romancing Ashley.  I was worried after Horizon I'd have lost her, but glad that I didn't.  The conflict and the trust issues that Ashley had with Shep just shows it's a real relationship.  It's not always roses and butterflies.

Miranda! my first play through an adventure into a new gaming experence. Tried Lira on my second, and her's was really good, but with citidal DLC Miranda's date sceen with her changing facial expressions was the iceing on the cake.

Honestly, I think this is just a willy wagging contest of a thread.

I like Miranda. I think she's the perfect LI for Shepard, or for my Shepard. She's the only LI I go for.

I dislike most of the others. People here like all the others.

OP is trying to objectively state which LI is the best. It's in the eye of the beholder.

Liara.

I think she's got the best romance arc if you include LotSB, has a lot of content, and with the 'Name in the Stars' and Farewell Gift scenes, I think she's got two of the best scenes in the series. One great thing about Liara as well is that she is the only character through all three games that with whom Shepard can let down his guard, and voice private doubts or fears. That serves to make Shepard a more fully fleshed out character, and it makes him feel more human.

That isn't a fair way to view her content in my opinion.

The only reason that is there is because Bioware wanted that to be there, any other LI can fill that role.  She has the most content and it's not bad content, at all - it's just the fact that you can tell that a lot of motivation went in to her character specifically and her's alone.

Exactly. That moment on Cronos Station when Shepard is looking at the vids about his/her reconstruction and has a mini-existential crisis. It means so much more when Kaidan or Ashley is behind him/her.

Shepard says "Maybe I'm just a high tech VI who only thinks its Commander Shepard"

Kaidan responds "Your real enough for me."(I assume Ashley's is equally touching)

Not true. Shepard has the ability to do this with Garrus, romanced or not, in ME3.

Though I agree with Spirosz, this is less about how Shepard actually feels about the LI and more about what specific content the writers give them. You could just as easily say 'Kaidan is the only romance whose cooking Shepard would eat' since we've only seen Shepard eat his cooking. It's not really proof of anything.

Liara. only true romance

meaning of true love, if there's a chance she'll take it. She moved Heaven and Earth to find Shepard's body. something Kaidan,Ashely and Garrus never did. Somthing no one did. that part showed who cared for shepard.

She gave up her career to help you. Couldn't leave your dead body to rot in space she intended to bury you. She never forgot about you.

she scowered the four corners of galaxy to find a  way to beat the reapers so shepard could win against the reapers.

she was transforming herself into a living weapon against her very core as a person just to help shepard fight the reapers.

No one else collected your effects. ie dogtags. No one else was a Soldier a Lover.

It is a fair comparison, as they don't fill that role.

Or I should say none of them except Liara does from Mass Effect 1. By Mass Effect 3 most of your squadmates have moments where Shepard can voice private fears or doubts (even with Javik), but Liara was the only one to have that sort of scene in the first game. Its one of the main reasons why I had Shepard go with Liara as the canon LI. Besides adding a bit of character development for Liara, it adds to Shepard as a character as well.

That she did get that sort of scene in ME1 while others didn't I don't see as some sort of nefarious conspiracy on Bioware's part to favor Liara, but rather as evidence that Bioware listened to fan feedback. The fans responded well to scenes that made Shepard feel more 'human,' so more of them popped up as thes series progressed.

The key bit in the sentence you bolded is 'through all three games.'

While I agree that Garrus has similar scenes in Mass Effect 3, he doesn't in Mass Effect 1. As far as I can recall Liara is the only character that does have similar scenes through all three games, if you include LotSB.

I know what you mean but I can't remember the exact lines.  Ashley does say something while watching those vids though.  I think she says the exact same thing.

Morinth is the best LI in the series. No more words Shepard, only dreams.

For me?

But it really varies with Shepards. I will say Garrus has a strong lead by being in all 3 games and having fairly consistent dialogue.

Pretty much. As I said, it's a 'who's got the longer dick' contest.

Except with the LI's.

Tali had some of the best romance content real nice to see it play out as whole, didn't much care for Liara's various obsessions or Ashley's trust issues.
