Um, the Citadel is supposed to spin to maintain gravity

But if I stare outside the window in Mass Effect 2 the Citadel doesn't spin, you can see this because the sun remains in constant position relative to the Citadel's fins. Same in Mass Effect 1.

I haven't played ME3 yet, has this issue been resolved there?

I've been wondering if that even IS a sun. I don't recall seeing any sort of sun around it on the galaxy map like you see in other systems.

I've never taken the time to look, but it always appeared to me as if they have sky-boxes over the columns; like a large piece of glass over the columns that have a sky on them, but I might be entirely wrong, I know nothing about it.

No no, in Mass Effect 2 you can't even see the sky boxes except from Cpt. Anderson's office. But when you're at the arrival area in the Citadel, if you look outside the window, you see the back of the Citadel where there's the huge ring holding the fins together, and behind the ring there is a sun.

You can clearly see there that the Citadel does not spin at all either on a vertical or horizontal axis, since the position of the sun remains the same.

It is clearly stated in both ME1 and ME2's Codex that the Citadel maintains artificial gravity by rotating (and if I recall correctly, it's a very high revolution rate).

The Citadel doesn't spin. Ever.

Yeah I know it is suppose to spin. Well, never noticed. I will go read the wiki and be back in a moment.

Yeah, I found nothing to help the cause. Sorry. I reckon we must wait until a lore buff comes around.

It may just be a mishap.

I see no sun in those pics, but again, I don't know if one is near or not. Could the sun be artificial? I read that the Presidium uses artificial night-and-day systems, but the wards do not.

It's weird, if you play ME2, the moment you get to the Citadel look out the window, you'll see the ring of the citadel and a sun clearly defined somewhere behind it.

But in this pic the sun is on the opposite side, towards the tips of the Citadel.

I am utterly confused.

Ok ok, minor correction, you first have to go through the small corridor doors before being able to see the sun.

Here's a screenshot I made today of it:

But my other screenshot shows the sun towards the tip, but still the Citadel isn't seen rotating!

I am utterly distressed by this revelation =\\

Wait a minute... why would the citadel need to approximate gravity through spin, when they have mass effect fields? Also, star ships in Mass Effect have internal gravity, and they don't seem to produce it by spin... clearly they have some other means to achieve the same effect.

It is either mentioned in a codex entry or in the description of the Citadel itself, but it is orbiting a massive blue giant named Widow. It is orbiting a star, even though you don't see it from the galaxy map.

You can see the star from certain angles on the Citadel if you have Shepard gaze in the right direction. (towards space and past the arms)

I've always just assumed the codex entry was an oversight that was never corrected. It makes no sense when they have mass effect fields that can generate AG at a whim.

Well technically none of the planets do either since no matter when you go to them the stars/planets/moons are always in the same position. It's the same concept for the Citadel.

As for it needing to spin, I always assumed that the central hub wasn't able to installed with ME because no one could find the main core. The arms/Wards are the population areas and as such are allowed to be messed with but the Keepers don't let anyone into the deepest parts of the central hub.

So what? Yeah I noticed this same thing years ago, but its a tiny detail, that, if implemented, would likely have required a disproportionate amount of work. It's not a big deal.
