Like the title says, I'm looking to buy a controller that I can hook up for my PC.  The thing is, I'm kind of clueless as to how well or how badly different controllers interact with different sources.  If at all possible, I want a controller that can I can use to play SNES, PSX, and PS2 emulators, as well as PC games like Dungeon Fighter Online (in case anyone's heard of it).

Could someone who knows about such things tell me if one controller can do all of that?  Would any old controller do, or should I stick to a specific type?  And if it's the latter, could you point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

I used to use my wired 360 controller to play Ocarina of Time and Shenmue. Setting up Joy2Key was a little bit of a hassle, maybe traditional PC gamepads have easier setups.

Wired 360 controller is all you need.

I used Motioninjoy to set up my PS3 controller to play emulators. I would think any Windows game that has gamepad support should have support for 360 controllers, though I can't say for sure as I use mouse and keyboard for PC games.

This is the best, in my opinion of course, works on any pc for EVERY game ( if you use a 360 or ps3 controler sometimes they wont' work for every game- weird but true), this is an awesome game pad for the price and really made Witcher 2 easier on me.

That costs $66.  I think I'll go for its cheaper cousin (thanks for the link).
