My theory is that it turned black when the tevinter mages entered the fade, causeing a rift to occur in the fade, because mortals aren't supposed to be there, which allowed the black city and impregnable citadel of good become assaulted by demons, was never given up by the good spirits, and so it blackened under the battles that took place. The mages themselves were cursed by either the demons the good spirits.
Because really, I'm not prepared the accept "men's sins" as an explanation.

Indeed. As a matter of fact, all my PCs are inclined to not believe anything the Chantry puts out there without having at least some proof.
It was quite telling that Genitivi was branded a heretic by the Chantry because of his belief in the Ashes. And what is the truth. The ashes do exist, directly contradicting what the Chantry spouts.
Perhaps it's because I don't think any organized religion should be forced on people, nor should it be able to wield so much power, and even have a standing army that is controlled through the use of drugs (lyrium).

I want a lot more Fade content.
I want the "Dragon Age: Spirits of the Fade" DLC to be released this summer.

I'm sure the Black City will be involved in a future expansion or in DAII. And when I storm it, Zevran better be with me.
Though party banter between Morrigan and Leiliana could be very interesting as well there.
And Sten...

Zevran's the only one who's ever demonstrated an interest in going there with me: "By your side I would willingly storm the gates of the Dark City itself. Do not doubt it!"melkathi wrote...

did i miss something or do i have to romance "zevran'. 4 game plays and he has back stabed me every time. had to kill him every time!! i do like his charater.but i got to admit "mooragon" is the best for lines.
He never backstabbed me on the playthroughs that I hadn't romanced him. Might want to make sure you get a few gifts for him early on to get his approval high enough before he gets a chance to stab you in the back.

The only constant they found was that the Black City (or the Golden City at the time I assume) always remained at a constant distance. All those entering the fade there after (ie the player character entering the fade) also remained at this distance. As per above screenshot.

What if the Black City wasn't turned black by the sins of the mages, what if it was a battleground between the demons and the good spirits of the fade?
The distinction between "Evil" and "Good" spirits is a man-made one. The only thing that distinguishes demons from other spirits is that they have an interest in crossing the fade and experiencing the mortal realm. It's not like there's an army of "Good spirits" and an army of "Evil spirits" which all work together and fight each other or something.

The black city doesn't have that much codex info. Although it would be an interesting place to explore.. I'd spend good money to see it
So long as they have decent bars, I'm game.
I like the idea of a black city better than a golden one, though. Did the Golden City look like a cheesy Vegas hotel or something?
