Ok, so this is NTOT, but theres no general bioware forum (ie: a place to discuss bioware generally, rather than any specific game).
So yeah, they recently announced that the team behind ME is moving on to another project with a new IP. So I was trying to rack my brains to think of what they might do.
What it Won't Be:
Generic fantasy, they already have dragon age (not saying DA is generic, just saying that it won't be sword and sorcery in a far off land) as an active franchise (x-fingers that it fixes the many mistakes of DA2, so far it's looking good).
Another Mass Effect, dragon age, or even jade empire title (TBH Jade Empire is iffy, they could be thinking of rebooting that franchise, but they did say this new project is a new IP so it's unlikely)
(probably not) an RTS, given that it's the team behind mass effect, its not really their wheelhouse. Granted they could bring on more ppl, but I still find it unlikely.
With Those Things In Mind, What Might it Be?
Modern Fantasy: think sorcery set in present (or near present), like bioshock but with many more RPG systems. Could apply the same sensibilities as mass effect, except change biotics for magic/mutagens/ technology (fairly likely)
Cop Drama: could be done, and bioware could make it cool. Think hard boiled cop detective story (unlikely). could apply simmilar sensibilities as mass effect.
Super Heroes: same deal as the modern fantasy, except more set in a comic book universe. Think of it, make your own super hero, beat up/kill bad guys (possible moral choice depending on how you deal with bad guys?) Definite possiblities for co-op (sidekicking). Problems might arise if its open world, which seems to be the direction bioware is going with dragon age 3, due to the fact that open world would require travel powers/a heromobile/cycle/jet and that kind of interactivity isnt really something bioware does very well (points at vehicle sections of mass effect). Possible ideas for inspiration are the arkham games (arkham asylum, city), city of heroes, dc universe online, champions online. (think the latter three with more of a focus on you personally, and made by bioware).
So yeah what do you guys think? any holes in my theories here? any other suggestions for what it might be?
NTOT Possible ideas for new project Bioware is working on

Where is your source saying the ME team is moving to another IP? I heard that Casey was thinking about the next ME already.

As I understand, BW Montreal is taking over ME, while the part of Bioware Edmunton that developed the previous ME games is moving on to another IP. I'm not sure if Casey Hudson is overseeing one or both projects.

New IP.
The ME team (mostly in Edmonton, I understand) is working on a new IP. Bioware Montreal is working on ME4--though Hudson will still have involvement.
As for what it will be?
Hmm, stealth game or detective game or some kind of new shooter that was different enough from ME that they wanted to make a universe for.
Hadn't though about super heroes/comic book. Though that makes sense too.

Ah. I have no idea of the implications of that.
Well, for the new IP, I'm really hoping for something set in reality--not fantasy or sci-fi. I'm also hoping for it to be set within the last 100 years or so. Who knows, though--Bioware loves creating universes.

I'm kinda hoping for a modern day sci-fi or fantasy game.
I would imagine the modern day sci-fi game to be like Deus Ex: Human Revolution but with more RPG in it, as well as a more expansive world.
The modern day fantasy game could be like Skyrim in a way, but with a touch of BioWare's adeptness at story telling and other RPG aspects, and of course it'd be modern day or near future.
Those seem to be the 2 that haven't really been overdone yet, and frankly one of my most hoped for routes. Using magic in an otherwise "normal", modern setting could be pretty awesome.
