He might actually be able to make the character bad@ss.
For those unfamiliar with him, he was Ujio in The Last Samurai and Captain Kaneda in Sunshine.
DO NOT watch the second clip if you've never seen Sunshine. Massive spoilers.
Of course Hiroyuki Sanada is Japanese, but Kai Leng is actually supposed to be part Chinese and Eastern European. Just shift that to Chinese/Japanese in the film.

Cavill as Superman AND Shepard!?
Too much!
Then again Chris Pine is Captain America and Silver Surfer, Ian McKellan Magneto and Gandalf, and JJ Abrams has Star Trek and Star Wars
I think you're confusing Pine with Chris Evans; Evans played Cap America and the Human Torch in FF2. Doug Jones actually played the Silver Surfer, with Laurence Fishbourne doing the voice.
Hey, howabout Fishbourned as Saren? I think he'd make a good Taurian anyways.
Mickey Rourke would be the ultimate Ren Shep...but I don't think the franchise could handle that much awesome.
Yes yes yes I meant Chris Evans.
AND I meant The Human Torch + Captain America!

Harrison Ford as Hacket? What's wrong with Lance Henrickson? I think he'd make a fine Hacket. Heck, he even looks like him...and for some strange, inexplicable reason sounds like him! Ford, on the other hand...I'd keep expecting him to say something to Chewie. I'd pick Martin Sheen for the Illusive Man. They could do to him what they did to Bridges in Tron to make him look younger.
Thane: Doug Jones
That's the guy who played Abe Sapien in the HellBoy movies. He also did the voice of Saarabas in DA, so he's worked for Bioware before.
For
Personally, i like too Henricksen voice. I think that it's one of the best english voice in video games, really bad-assB). But, phisically, i think that Harrison Ford it's more similar to Hackett than Henricksen. God, if you watch Ford with beard it's almost the same!

Liara T'soni=Evan Rachel Wood (obviusly in CGI)
As much as I love Ali Hillis as Liara's voice actress in the game, I don't think she would be well suited to play the character in a live action movie.
Yes, obviously. But for a humanoid character face like Liara, which require a real face actress, the CGI can't mask totally the face of an actress to make it look like another person. The actress would be very upset.
The argument it's different for characters like Turian, Krogan, Salarian etc. in which CGI it's indispensable to recreate the species, so the actor who interpreting those roles know about their apparence on set.

Contrary to popular beleif, actors and actresses outside A-list names (like DeNiro, DiCaprio, Jolie etc.) have little to no creative input at all in their characters. Having to "look" completely unlike themselves is nothing - most actors/actresses are beyond extatic to be simply getting real exposure. It is a misconception that a lot of movies have things changed because actors dont like it, and the exceptions are few and far between.
Also, the vast majority of actors auditioning for the roles would know little to nothing about ME beforehand, you think some will be OK walking in knowing their faces will be completely changed while others wouldn't? No. Kind of arbitrary. The director could easily just tell the Liara actress what the deal is.

I would want Jason Statham as Shepard, though they don't look that familiar
Heh...but if they cast him then Shepard would be a loner, saving the galaxy by himself. Of course, in ME2 there'd be a flaw with the heart Cereburs implants resulting in him having to zap himself with an ME field every X minutes or...DIE <cue dramatic music>!
Speaking of bald actors...howabout Vin Diesel as Saren?

Just give him that weird scar on Shepard's #1 haircut. He has the same skin tone, the same crystal-blue eyes, and the face structure looks familiar. His voice also is a little reminiscent of Broshep's.

Same with Turian and Quarian...except for the legs. Don't they both have reversed knees? That could be ignored I guess, or worked around. I'd like it if the aliens tended to move differently then humans though. Like, Turians walking more birdlike or something. Krogan, however, would almost need to be CGI'd.

If Avatar isn't enough justification that any actor can play a CGI'd character then I dont know what is. And the movie is 4 years old, based on even older tech. It's not hard to move the motion-caption points on the actor's face post production to change their facial structure entirely while retaining their emotional expressions in the film.

Sharon Stone as Samara? Hell yeah!I really like most of your "fan-cast" OP.
BAH! You just want to see her sitting in her chair near the Rachni queen as Shep and Co. walk in and she languidly spins towards you, then slowly uncrosses and crosses her legs showing her azure.

A few suggestions I have:
Kaidan Alenko - Nathan Fillion
Illusive Man - Jon Hamm
Shepard - Liam McIntyre (although Henry Cavill is a good choice as well)
Why McIntyre? He's a pretty good actor who's young enough for the part, has a good physique and is a big fan of the Mass Effect series. I once made this suggestion on Twitter and he seemed enthousiastic about it. I'm only curious if he can do a Canadian accent.
Why Nathan Fillion? He's a BioWare veteran (Jade Empire), Canadian, and a damn good actor.
Why Jon Hamm? As much as I love Martin Sheen, he's getting older, and the illusive Man is supposed to represent the typical human, which all the shortcomings (drinking and smoking) but also the strengths (youthfullness, determination). Jon Hamm may not want to do this due to fear of being typecast (similarities with Don Draper), but he's charming, good looking and can represent the strength of the Illusive Man very well. He also starred in another movie made by Legendary Pictures, who are producing the Mass Effect movie, so they have experience working with each other.

Sir Ian Mckellen deserves a better role than Goddamn Udina.
He needs to be Hackett. And Anderson. And Sovereign voice. And Bailey. And everyone.
And Christopher Lee as Presley.
And I am fine as long Noomi Rapace is femshep. From the current actresses, this is the only woman for me that can be both gergeous female, but not that kind of pretty queen and badass fighter too. And has character.
And I can´t really see Nathan Fillion as Kaidan. They are way too different.
And actually I don´t want Mass Effect film. I want ME film, but not The Mass Effect film. I would disagree with most of the choices they will make. Especially Virmire.

For Manshep, I don't know. I really would love to see Jon Bernthal [Shane, Walking Dead]. When he shaves his head he looks very Shepard like, and I also love his rougher looking appearance.

It doesn't have to be, but would most likely be as Sheploo is a character that most gamers would immediately recognize even if they never played a Mass Effect game. He is the character that was all over the advertising for three games.
Its the route I would go if I were in charge of casting.

Anderson has to be played by Morgan Freeman
and for Hackett, get Sean Connery out of retirement!
