Today in the verse...
Well, I put it off as long as I could. Ran around the Citadel, watching news reports and turning in most of the fetch quests I had left. Went to the spectre office and authorized a transfer for some engineer who didn't want to fight Cerberus mooks in case she ran into her brother. HA! She don't know problems. Met with councilor Not-Tevos and found out about an artifact on Thessia that could help us identify the catalyst. Then I went to Purgatory and danced with an asari for awhile *ahem* just don't tell Ash that part. Hey, we only danced. Then I had a few drinks and woke up on Aria's couch.
Then I couldn't put it off any longer. It was time to get back to the ship and head for Thessia.
Then this happened...
Wow. I thought I felt bad after Rannoch. Moral of the story: If you're gonna sabotage the genophage, kill the big guy on Virmire.
EDIT: Update... Went to Thessia and fought *snicker* Kai Leng and his gunship, and a few reaper forces. Took Javik along for the trolling goodness, and when we got to the point of activating Athame -- Now there's an issue of Fornax I'd like to read! -- I picked some different dialogue choices, and Liara said something about the asari being careful with what they'd learned from the beacon over the years. Shep replied with (something like), "maybe too careful. Now there's no one to show us how it works." Then Liara went into her usual, "The few records I can access talk about tapping into data streams..." etc etc. Interesting. Maybe the asari hadn't been learning anything new from the beacon for a very long time?
One last note on Thessia: Afterwards, I had a little chat with Garrus in the main battery, about 'ruthless calculus' and he brought up my stand-off with Wrex. I had a chance to tell him what it was all about -- confess my sins, I guess -- but even though he's my bro, I didn't do it. I told him we had a disagreement about strategy instead. Oh well.
Anyway, then we went to Ontarom and killed some Cerberus mooks and rescued Grace Sato. Talk about disrupting the flow of the narrative -- I mean, we're supposed to be hot on Leng's trail all the way to Horizon... It's not that I don't like the Ontarom mission, but we should have been done with all these N7 side missions before now. They could have at least given us a shifty cow encounter
Then it was off to Horizon. Zipped through this one as quickly as possible. Still fun to drop flamethrower turrets on choke points and chase reapers out of cover with drones. Realized my combat drone will zap those little swarmer things that crawl out of Ravagers when they die. Nice. But other than that I had no real attachment to this mission; I mean I like Miranda and all, but when I see her it just reminds me how I chose Tali over her back in ME2... then killed Tali
Speaking of Tali; after Horizon, I did my usual run-around the ship, talking to all the crew as I do after every mission, even though I know they have nothing new to say. Clicked on Ken and Gabby as I ran through engineering, and they mentioned Tali. Ken said he was sorry about what happened to Tali, and Gabby said (something like) they'll miss having her down there with them. F*** me, does it ever end?
So... after the Rachni queen on Utukku, and Tali and the quarians on Rannoch, and Wiks and the krogan on Tuchanka... and Wrex on the Citadel... it's time for some shore leave and some soul-searching in Anderson's apartment my new pad. I really think I need to find myself.
