Had to start a new ME3 as I am learning how to mod saves... Left earth, Met up with Liara on Mars, Watched Ashley do some head banging at the end. Talked with the completely worthless at this point counsel. Got a lead to head out to Palven, looking forward to getting Garrus. Had a talk with Bailey, Said O.K to Diana Allers, Now to go get the Primarch Victus on Menae.
What did you do today in the Mass Effect trilogy

Today Tyson traveled throught the Omega 4 relay and rescued the Normandy crew whom had been abducted by the collectors, he fought with fury as he carved a path to the heart of the collector base where he encountered a reaper being constructed by the collectors using the genetic material of human colonists who had been melted down. Well Tyson destroyed the reaper but decided to irradiate the Collector Base seeing as the technology there was used to create a reaper. While he doesn't trust Cerberus completely Tyson decided that the base was a resource to valuable to destroy. Nobody was lost on the mission.
Afterwards he traveled to Illium to help his old friend Liara T'Soni hunt down the shadow broker, for Tyson it was also a chance to get payback on the broker for trying to sell Shepard's body to the collectors. Well their hunt eventually lead them to Hagalez where they found the broker's ship. Fighting along the outer hull Shepard, Liara, and Garrus made their way into the ship where they confronted the Shadow Broker himself who turned out to be a Yahg. Well they killed the Broker and Liara assumed the mantle of Shadow Broker.
So today Tyson took down the Collectors and now has inside access to the Shadow Broker's intelligence network. Not bad for a day's work. Up next for Tyson is a solo mission he is doing on behalf of Admiral Hackett of the Alliance to the Bahak system where he has to break out an alliance deep cover operative who is being held by the Batarian's. Apparently this operative has intel on an imminent Reaper invasion so there is no time to waste.

As my previous post indicates I am on the verge of wrapping up my ME 2 playthrough which means I plan on getting started with ME 3 tomorrow. Looking for suggestions, I am playing as a soldier and I am thinking of ditching the sniper rifle all together in my loadout for ME 3. Always preferred shotguns and close range combat to long range combat, and there is nothing a good assault rifle or even pistol with a scope on it can't handle at long range. I figure ditching the sniper will help with my cooldown timers and can trigger adrenaline rush, concussive shot etc... more often. Thoughts?

I like it. I tend to play most classes with minimum 150% cooldown 'cause I love my powers, even on Soldiers. If you want even more you could go with just a pistol/shotgun, or replace the pistol with an SMG, and leave both SR and AR. Good for CQC and use pistol/smg if you need a little range. I guess a shotgun + assaultrifle combo would work as well.
Energy drain is always a good backup power. Or for more control go with Stasis. I also like to use Lash with shield piercing. Throwing enemies around is always great fun. And can never go wrong with Inferno grenades, although soldier already have the frags.
Well, depending on the difficulty, you only need to worry about having enough power to take down Banshee fast enough. Everything else will die fast or move too slowly to be a problem.

Jen Itaylia Shepard and crew traveled to Omega to recruit Archangel and Dr. Mordin Solis.
Jen was very happy to learn that Archangel was her old friend Garrus - although she did give Garrus a little crap about shooting her a couple of times during the bridge assault. Garrus explained it away by saying, "Those were only concussive rounds. If I had wanted to do more damage... you know I could have." Garrus ended up seriously dinged up in the battle, but he recovered so quickly Jacob dubbed him "one tough son-of-a-bitc*."
Jen is slowly adjusting to Mordin's rapid stream of consciousness conversation "style." Mordin appears to have a Machiavellian outlook - something right in line with Jen's approach to the mission. It could be the start of a productive professional relationship!
Jen doesn't care to much for Kelly Chambers. She thinks Kelly's primary role of yeoman could be capably filled by an AI. Upon learning that Kelly also is expected to play the role of ship's counselor, Jen became a little irked and instructed Kelly to keep her distance. "I don't need you inside my head," or words along those lines, if I recall correctly.

Renegade
John Shepard on Eden Prime ...
Shepard is treating Jenkins as his renegade apprentice and his first job is target practice with the innocent GasBags. Jenkins put this experience to use by putting all 3 points in "Combat Armour". In the next scene Jenkins dies
and this has put Shepard in a foul mood!
Shepard encountered Ashley and saw Geth spike some people. Shepard didn't want any tagalongs so he told Ashley to stay put. Ashley wasn't having this though and she came along anyway. Eventually, the group came across a couple of scientists which ended with Manuel getting a punch. Kaidan died twice against some husks and Shepard was secretly ashamed
. A couple of farmers were discovered and Shepard demanded all their weapons. The farmers did this and so they are now more or less defenceless. Shepard finished the conversation by putting a gun in their face.
Nilhus was discovered dead and Shepard wasn't really bothered. Powell was threatened at gun point as well. Geth were blocking the way forward and Shepard was happy to use biotic throws to force his way through. The Geth were flying all over the place
. The Geth bombs were deactivated and got to the target objective of the beacon. Shepard used the beacon.
Afterwards, everyone was back on the Normandy and Shepard blamed everything on Ashley (which made Ashley have a sad face). Shepard now has more points in intimidate bringing the total to 5. Currently in the Normandy and this is where I am at the moment.

I suggest going with a Raptor + Shotgun combo. Low weight rapid fire sniper rifle + shotgun for CQC. I'd put Scope and Extended Barrel on the Raptor so you won't have to worry about Centurion smoke screens. Assault Rifles can do that with Thermal Scope but it increases weapon weight.

I am preferential to shotguns myself, mostly the Claymore. (I have used the Claymore as a primary weapon on all classes except the Sentinel. That must change soon.) Have you tried a Claymore Soldier? Or maybe the Wraith if you want really short cooldown times.
I am currently running a Bulletless Soldier build at the moment, because who needs guns?
With DLC, how about a Blood Pack Soldier that uses the Executioner and Punisher? (Although you could probably just run the Punisher.)
Perhaps you can find some Soldier idea here: Mass Effect 3 Single Player: A compilation of strategy guides and discussions.
I know Vazgen tried out a Flare Soldier build in this video.

My Bulletless Soldier went to go stomp out the Rachni for the second time in her life. In the non-combat sections, I got a little fed up with Concussive Shot and Energy not blowing up the pods, so I switched to the Avenger and just shot them all to save time. I hate using the Firestorm.
Landed on Tuchanka, saved my game, then shut off the Xbox for the night. I am undecided if I will cure or sabotage the genophage. I am playing a renegade, but I did save the cure in ME2 and she is not a total renegade. And Wrex and Mordin are old friends. But the Krogan are too dangerous to let live.

Went to Earth. Took a tour of Buckingham Palace. Saw Big Ben. Called for the Normandy to pick up the souvenirs I bought. Fought a bunch of uglies. Talked with TIM and Anderson about what the next Mass Effect game should be about. TIM shot Anderson because Anderson didn't like his ideas and I shot TIM because he didn't like my ideas. Since I'm the last one standing, we'll go with my ideas. Haha
I talk with the ghost of Tattoo. You know, the little guy from fantasy Island? Nah. Probably not. Whatever. He kept saying the plane, the plane. Well the dirtbag can say whatever it wants. I will shoot the tube over there. Steve is waiting to take me back to the Normandy. The reapers go boom. I become a hero for the third time. I wonder if I will get a promotion for the crap I've done. You know what would be hilarious? They promote me and I tell them to get lost. That sounds like a plan. Okay. Its time for me to sign off. I do want to play DA2 again and I promised someone a drink in Vancouver. Later

Met joker for lunch killed some fish and was reminded why I hate the first half of the citadel dlc. Pistols are not my thing especially on a soldier. Took Liara to a casino. Then Ben visited the archives and killed more mercs. He took back the Normandy and killed his evil clone and Brooks. Then he invited some people to his pad. Ben had a short and boring party since only 5 crewmates are alive. It wasn't much fun at least until he and Liara went to bed. Ben lost a few credits to that damn vorcha. Seriously has anyone ever won at that shell game racket he's running??? And there's no way Vega could do 182 pull ups.

Tonight, Shepard traveled to Zorya with Zaeed and Mordin to help Zaeed track down an old nemesis: Vido Santiago. Apparently, Vido and Zaeed used to run the Blue Suns - until Vido decided to screw Zaeed over by shooting him in the melon and taking control of the Blue Suns all for himself. All along Shepard had thought the reason Zaeed had mismatched eyes was because Zaeed was going for a Marilyn Manson "look." Once she learned Zaeed's mismatched eyes were caused by Vido, she was quite happy to help Zaeed in his quest for revenge.
Letting innocent workers burn to death in a plant explosion probably ensured Shepard receives a one-way ticket to Hell when she dies, but burning for eternity didn't cross Shepard's mind - she was too busy being influenced by Zaeed's bloodthirsty desire for revenge. Zaeed is a good team member to have, and his combat ability is top-notch, but one has to wonder whether or not Shepard crossed the line when she chose Zaeed's loyalty over the lives of innocent workers.
Mordin was blessedly quiet throughout the mission.

Took care of the Rogue VI on Luna, and then I dealt with the biotic cult around Major Kyle. I threatened him if he doesn't go peacefully everyone will die. It worked, he talked to his "children", was picked up by the Alliance and all is well in Shepard Land.
Next stop: Virmire

Tyson destroyed a Mass Relay in order to delay the Reaper invasion, then six months later he found himself on Earth in alliance custody when the Reapers finally hit.

For the most part I was pretty happy with the import. The import to ME 3 can get wonky but other than the hair everything was pretty much intact, fortunately there is a similar hairstyle in the CC I can use since the one I had in the first two games doesn't seem to carry over to ME 3 at all for some reason but the one I replaced it with is close enough.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, played a couple of missions so far, right now I have the harrier equipped with the N7 Pirrahna I don't need the cooldown timer completely down just something balanced. In the past I went for full loadout soldiers (I guess from the mentality of playing with a full loadout from the first two games) but I am enjoying this trimmed down soldier alot more. I will definitely get the wraith when I can afford it as that is my ultimate goal. I am thinking of swapping out fortification for energy drain or carnage though.

I am thinking of swapping out fortification for energy drain or carnage though.
Fortification is good for always-on Damage Reduction.
On Insanity, Soldier needs Energy Drain set to max damage plus about +70% damage from other sources to fully strip shields off most shielded enemies (Centurians + Engineers mostly). Otherwise go Radius - Shield Drain - Armor.
Do not bother with Carnage on the Soldier. Concussive Shot amplified with Incendiary Ammo is better.
