(Insanity Day 2) Natalie made it to Omega and refused to meet the self proclaimed leader of this crap-tastic station instead she let Zaeed join up and together with Jacob they headed into the quarantine zone. Started off okay but now really understand why Krogen regen is a pain, have only died once when I finally realized that I might not want to get to close to the targets since ya know Infiltrator and all and now really wishing I had brought Miranda instead of Jacob maybe Natalie will have to stuff her fillings of hate for her in order to get a few missions done. Almost to the vents and will soon have the cure injected so far gotta say looks like this insanity is leaving false hope I just know its got to get tougher at some point will finish up Mordin recruitment and then will be off to get Garrus. I know I will cry at this series of quest I just know it.

Well, unless you are really, really, really good, Miranda is going to be a go-to team mate. In fact, Miranda and Jacob would make a good team for this mission because you can have them combo off each other for warp explosions. Jacob>Pull -> Miranda>Warp.

I find the most useful team mates to be Miranda, Mordin, and Garrus. Kasumi is good on Collector missions because her flashbang when used on Harbinger will prevent him from doing anything for about 50 seconds. Since you have never seen Harbinger on insanity, let me tell you, shutting him down is a big deal. Mordin's full cryo blast has a 4.5 second cool down. Prioritize that. Miranda's unstable warp has a 9 second cool down. Prioritize that. Concussive shot sucks, prioritize Garrus's Overload and his class power. Jack is useless with your infiltrator. Grunt is useless, period. Zaeed is mediocre at best.

Added: Oh, and you might want to put off the Archangel mission for a bit. That is one tough mission. Zaeed's mission is easy. Kasumi's mission is tough, but gets you the Locust which you are definitely going to want ASAP.

Today, Rico Shepard went to Therum and saved Liara T'Soni. Finally. Kaidan and Rico seemed to have a rivalry over Liara. Curiously enough, all women behave differently around Rico. Pssh... but I'm starting to have a severe lack of interest with side quests. But Liaramance!

Surprisingly, Rico made me a productive fanfic writer today. Word count went over the roof. Planned another short story for Kaidan. I guess I got something positive out of the fake Casper Van Dien.

Then we went back to Revka's playthrough. I mish you...  and I notice NG+ nerfed the game more than plain NG insanity.. so does ME1's Insanity. Or I'm just getting better at this game.... oh well.

We found Grunt! Aww... My little krogan has grown up and kicking ass beautifully.

i-am-krogan.gif

grunt.gif

short game today... still need to catch up with the word count graph and edit some stuff. Still not in the mood to go back to my original writing project. And I need to watch the rest of Defiance.

Started the Horizon mission with Garrus and Jack on insanity. As soon as Shepard got to Horizon, there was a massive Collector ship which was made more ominous with the surrounding lightning and the stasis inducing bugs. Shepard encountered the Collectors and Harbinger introduced himself by possessing a couple of minions. Shepard wasn't impressed by this display and demonstrated his own "assuming direct control" through the dominate ability :D. Shepard not only turned enemy against enemy as he found a Collector beam which he used against them as well. The crew got to the defence tower and another fight occurred which mainly involved going round a truck to avoid a hovering insect/spider. After this Shepard met Kaidan and they had a difference of opinion so Shepard left the planet.

Shepard was back on the Normandy and out of the blue, Hackett decided to make contact. Hackett wants him to investigate an operative called Kenson and Shepard could do this as "a favour to him". Shepard did a lot of favours for Hackett two years ago <_< so he is going to have to wait. Miranda and Jacob both had personal issues but they are going to have to wait as well because the Normandy is plotting a course for Illium.

Shepard went to Illium with Kasumi and Garrus and decided to explore. There was no Conrad, Parasini or Rachni encounter as they have all died in ME1 (I didn't realise that Conrad had died! :o). Shepard found Liara and she gave him a hug. Shepard did one mission with her on Ilos over two years ago and she is already at the hug stage? Shepard is on the way to Samara but before this he managed to look round some more. He told an Asari to break up with Char so that he can get a store discount on some fish and he also spoke with a colonist from Zhu's Hope to solve their problem as well.

An officer told Shepard that Samara is a justicar and obeys a strict code. Renegade Shepard and Kasumi (a thief) are going to meet a justicar so what can go wrong? There was a conversation where Shepard told the detective not to follow her superior's orders and Garrus replied "we get to disobey suicide orders?" with Kasumi adding "that's about twice a day". Samara was found and in my opinion is one of the best introductions to a character because of the fight/biotic scene and the music theme in the background.

Samara wants us to find a ship so this means going into Eclipse territory. The team ventured further into the base and they found a gunship but luckily, Shepard brought along a gunship experienced team of Garrus and Kasumi. Kasumi showed restraint during this fight as she didn't jump on this one. Shepard then found an unexpected ally from a Biotic God. His abilities were off today though because he had great wind and was consequently blown away by the merc leader -_-. After the battle Samara joined the team.

It turns out that in the wake of the Council dying, the Citadel has become has become a very anti-human place. Tsk. Shepard warned the Council plenty of times (when he wasn’t disconnecting them :P ) about Saren and the Reapers, and they just ignored it. The only reason anyone’s still alive is because he saved them all. Turns out they’re also just telling people it was a ‘geth attack’.

Shepard headed into the novelty shop and was annoyed to discover that hamsters cost several thousand credits. Unless this hamster sneezes gold dust, it’s not worth it. He accused the shopkeeper of discriminating against the poor, and Jack just watched events unfold with this face on:  :?

Shepard got his fish, hamster and little model ships though, so he’s happy. Should probably pick up some more combat-useful gear before he heads to Haestrom though. Ashley might not want to join, but his good friend Tali won’t refuse, surely.

Speaking of quarians, Shep spotted a quarian getting harassed by C-Sec and a volus. He did found the missing credit chit, and then lost his temper with the pair of them. Might want to jog on before Shepard kicks you all over the station. Clearly he doesn’t need to be reinstated as a Spectre either, because C-Sec are good and intimidated even with the ‘former’ bit on the title. The quarian was pleased, so Shep’s done his good deed for the day.

Khalisah al-Jilani was laying in wait with her cameras. Can’t a man just do a little shopping in peace? She made some disingenuous assertions, and Kasumi edged out of view of the cameras. Probably not a good idea for the two most wanted criminals in the galaxy to be hanging out on the news with Shep. He went on an angry rant about al-Jilani disrespecting the dead, and then stormed off.

Shepard got sassed by a turian running a shop, but talked the guy into giving him a discount. His argument was pretty much “you’re all wimps, so give me cheap guns and I might protect you.” It worked! He then headed up to the bar and made the bartender ‘put more of the stuff in the thing the stuff goes in’... until Shep passed out. When he woke up, he was lying in a men’s loo, with his squadmates side-eyeing a urinating turian. Ladies, I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to be in here. :P
Apparently Jack had a comment about toilets. It did not turn out to be funny at all. Don’t worry Jack, things will get better for you now (except for the whole suicide mission thing). Because anyone who messes with Shepard’s crew gets shot.

This is going to be a two-part post.  Last time, we rescued Jack and her kids.

The album will be updated shortly.

Poor Steve.  He needed a hug.

Spoiler

Once again, Shepard asks the same thing I did my first time playing the game.

Spoiler

Interesting response.  I wonder if he used to flirt with Lola but was too shy to say anything.  That or his sister would kick the crap out of him.

Spoiler

"It's about as pleasant to see you as getting my legs waxed."

Spoiler

"Likewise."

Spoiler

And I'm sure this will never come up again.  Nope, not at all.

Spoiler

Ah yes, Thane.  The guy that tempted me to break up with Liara my first game.  Thankfully, I took it at face value that Thane was truly terminally ill, so I avoided it.

Spoiler

I'm happy to see him too, Shep.

Spoiler

Of course, he's still awesome.

Spoiler

It wasn't until this game that I realized the doctor had told him he was going to die before the SM.

Spoiler

:crying:

Spoiler

This is sound advice, but she always sounds so sad and wistful.  This Shep considers Liara a dear friend.

Spoiler

EDI, you're like the little sister I never asked for.

Spoiler

Awkward.

Spoiler

Joker's right about the news.

Spoiler

Looking like that?  Well, this is the same security that thought that geth infiltrated.  With Legion standing right there.

Spoiler

You know everyone is thinking one thing.  Sex bot.

Stay tuned for part 2!

Part 2!

The album has been fully updated, with bonus screenshots because these posts get large enough.

Hey look, the only non criminal/idiotic volus in the series!  He's got some shady ties, but he's otherwise alright.

Spoiler

So, you won't commit your commandos to prevent the end of all life as we know it, but you'll kiss Aria's rear end?  Remind me why I saved you again?

Spoiler

That's all well and good...but I'm still not going to buy your DLC until it goes on sale.  Origin will do it eventually.

Spoiler

One of the few renegade interrupts I take in the game.  I like this moment.

Spoiler

Paragon or not, this is very true of Shep.

Spoiler

Thank you for salute.

Spoiler

Meanwhile, poor Garrus never has good news.

Spoiler

Yeah, pretty much.  Of course, thanks to the Beacon, this shouldn't surprise you.

Spoiler

Hey look, a companion that actually asks how the PC is doing!

Spoiler

Just wait until I get you lost in your nightmare.  It's bound to happen.

Spoiler

Next time:  Brian Bloom!  Vorcha!  Call backs to a DLC the player might not have done!

The trick worked! Luna Shepard killed Marauder Shields, shot TIM (after he killed Anderson), listened to the Catalyst and emptied the clip into a tube (apparently that Carnifex holds more than six rounds. Probably modded). Normandy managed to escape the blast and ended on some garden world. I was interested in who is going to come out of the ship and after Joker admired view with Samantha the third squadmate came out. It was... Javik!  :D "Stupid primitives don't know how to pilot a ship"

Credits rolled, awesome song played and Stargazer scene kicked in. After countless discussions on BSN, this scene got a whole new meaning. It's like presenting the setting of ME:Next. Same galaxy, different location, far in the future so "the details are lost". I can even see that child being the next protagonist!  :)

So ends the story of Luna Shepard who stepped through the Conduit and into the annals of legend. But the tale of humanity will never come to a close, for the struggle of survival is a war without end, and war – war never changes.

While Amanda Kenson hacked some terminal, I protected us from the prison guards. Soon enough we went for the elevator, killed more guards and took a shuttle to get the hell out of here. On the way Kenson told me that she and her team want to destroy a relay - she has proof that the Reapers will soon come through this relay. To destroy it would mean to delay the Reapers. Sounds like a plan, but I need to see her proof, a Reaper artifact. Kenson explained that she had a vision due to the artifact and that's how she knows the Reapers will soon arrive. I asked her about indoctrination risk, but she said they've been very careful. Uh-huh.

We arrived at the Project Base uh...asteroid, and soon enough I saw the artifact for myself, including the vision. The thing is though, Kenson was already indoctrinated and is not happy that I want the project to continue, so I'm under attack and faster down than I can count to 10. I woke up in a med lab and broke out, killing Kenson's people while making my way to the Control room and initiate the asteroid to take course onto the relay.

Before reaching Kenson I cooled down the fusion core she's trying to overheat, then I finally met her again. I tried to talk her out of it but she pulled the trigger of a detonator, killing herself. That woman was prepared! The base's VI told me of escape shuttles, so I made my way to the shuttle area, took down more enemies, had a brief chat with HoloHarbinger and was picked up by the Normandy moments before the asteroid crashes into the relay. Close call, but the Reapers are stopped for now.

Hackett paid me a visit in person. I explained why the destruction of the relay was necessary, even at the cost of sacrificing an entire batarian system. Well, seems I still need to answer for my past actions, so I thank Hackett for the delay and prepare for a longer break from duty.

Enter Adam Shepard in Mass Effect 3! Insanity run again :D

After being relieved of command and detained for quite some time I'm on my way to meet the Alliance Committee, escorted by Anderson and Lieutenant James Vega.

Then I heard Kaidan's voice behind me and turned around. He looks good, and it's great to see him again, even after what happened on Horizon. We shared a few words, I learned that it's "Major" Alenko now and then I have to leave, but not before noticing Kaidan's sad look on his face. Maybe we'll finally get this thing between us out of the way.

The Alliance Council panics over the Reapers, it's not like I warned everybody a 100 times. As we're still talking a Reaper landed right in front of the building. A red beam in our direction forces us to run, but it was too late. The building was hit and Anderson and I make our way out of this debris-filled place, contacting Kaidan to get the Normandy. Saw a kid hiding in a duct along the way, and told him I can help him, but I was distracted for a second and he vanished.

As we ran along from building to building, we came across a radio and tried to contact the Normandy again. We also had our first contact with Reaper forces, Cannibals. We held our position while killing more and more of these things when finally the Normandy swoops in and picked us up. As I looked outside I see the kid again, he made it to one of the shuttles. The shuttle took off, only to be torn apart by a Reaper's red beam, and I feel helpless.
It also didn't help that Anderson stays on earth while we should go to the Citadel Council and ask for help. He gave me back my dog tags and I return to active duty.

Relunctantly we left, the situation is tense when we got a call from Hackett. We could make out something about maybe the only way to stop the Reapers, something Liara found in the Mars Archives. Sounds promising, if a bit too good to be true, but we are on our way.

James, Kaidan and I arrived on Mars and are ready for some action.

This is one of my favorite little gems of ME1, pity it doesn't really come up again. You can almost head-canon Javik nodding at it with his 'for a human that used to live in caves' but he says that regardless if you experienced this or not.

Despite the somewhat rocky relationship, the Council was saved. It goes best with how my vision of her evolved over the playthrough. The Asari Councillor explains it quite well here. The Renegade/Save Council ending might just be my favorite:

Rico Shepard went to Noveria, finished a couple of side quests but before we could get on with the corrupt cops mission... Rico got stuck in the elevator... ... .... .... .... and the last save was 20 minutes ago. Aiya....

Then we went to see how things work out for Revka Shepard. The turian need krogan and the krogan need the genophage's cure and Rev need both turian and krogan to reclaim earth so she has a plan.  *cue music*
Spoiler

Apparently the reapers wanted to poison Tuchanka's atmosphere with the shroud. As Tuchanka is already a nuclear wasteland and the krogan still living in it, I'm not sure how that plan would work. But don't worry, Tyrannosaurus Wrex is helping with his shotgun.
Spoiler

Of course the short reaper didn't know that Tuchanka has its own giant monster and she didn't like pesky giant AI mech messing around her planet.
Spoiler

Unfortunately, the kaiju and mecha nearly destroyed the shroud.
Spoiler

So, our salarian scientist did what he had to do....
Spoiler

*cue bawling*
Then Rev had more nightmares and more whispers in the dark. Imagine how noisy the whispers would be if nearly everyone died in ME2. Rev woke up crying and had a grief counselling session with Liara from the bathroom. Councilor Valern wanted to talk about Udina and Shepard gave a sarcastic reply "Why don't you put Citadel Security on it?". ME1 ref. Figures. But Cerberus is attacking the Presidium and we saved Bailey. Still without an eyepatch!
We found the Cerberus assassin and our assassin kick his ass...
Spoiler

except Thane should have known not to use a gun in a swordfight :(
Spoiler

"You don't wanna mess with me, Leng Chai!" Revka yelled just before he ran off. "And since when he can make biotic bubble... bloody Cerberus tech."
From now on, every bullets she carry will be engraved with these magical words "Ham Ga Leng" which is cantonese for... err... bad words.
Spoiler

After overloading several elevators, Revka and co finally caught up with the council but... Kaidan, you nearly shot Revvie! And you complain about her wanting to take you out. At least, he has his fun shooting the bastard. Again.. again.. again...
Spoiler

Now that's settled... time to pay respects. Irikah is waiting for you, Thane. Goodbye.
Spoiler

While feeling down, Kaidan was waiting for her at the docks. Of course, Revvie's mind goes blank for a few second when he said he loves her. And ever the shameless opportunist that she is...

Cryo blast? I dunno -- in practice, I don't find that cooldowns matter too much, since the real delay is in stripping defenses before the kill power gets used. (Warp's another matter since it can strip barriers.)

And Zaeed's disruptor ammo can be quite handy, depending on the mission and your Shepard.
