I would recommend not recruiting Garrus until after Virmire. You have to recruit either Wrex or Garrus, but you don't have to get both right away and it would make sense to distrust the Turian more than the Krogan since humans went to war with the Turians. Do Virmire 3rd and only have humans on your team until then. On Virmire Shepard is forced to use aliens. At that point Shepard can start to be more open about aliens and you can then go back and get Garrus at C-Sec. To avoid recruiting Garrus don't go talk to Harkin. Just go talk to Barla Von, pick up Wrex at C-Sec, then go to Cora's Den.
At some point, for the story to make sense, Shepard will have to become less suspicious of aliens. By the time you get to ME2 the story simply does not lend itself to having an anti-alien Shepard, so you have to make it so Shepard changes her mind. Virmire is the place to do that.
In the end I have now recruited both Garrus and Wrex becaaaaause... well, Kaidan asks right away after we leave the Council to go find Garrus as he seems to be directly investigating Saren. Made sense to me, so I followed this lead, but ignored Wrex at first. However, as he approached me anyway when I returned to the Normandy I allowed him to board after he asked twice to join me ![]()
Yeah, I guess I will rather soon be less suspicious of aliens. The crew helps with that quite well (and to be honest, the lines that were given to all alien crew members, no matter if you pick the mean answers, are already enough to see they're very earnest in their reasons to join, makes it harder to hate on them imo
)
I already loved some things though, like asking Tali if she's spying on the ship or telling Adams I didn't even want Tali on the ship and that Udina made me do it.
What disappointed me a bit was Pressly's talk. There was no answer to tell him we side with him about the aliens as far as I could tell, that was a wasted opportunity. I just left the chat out for now, if it's still available later when I like the alien crew a bit more it would make more sense.
Recruit Wrex. Don't recruit Garrus.Recruit Liara before Virmire
Do the geth missions and don't give the data to Tali. Haha
Kill Wrex on Virmire or let Ashley kill him. Excellent
Already recruited Garrus for reasons above, tehe. It just flows better in the story imo. I'm getting Liara right now (after exposing Saren). Good idea about not giving the data to Tali, will do that
And I also had planned to let Ash kill Wrex on Virmire, so yes!
Sooo, but let's see how it went...
Captain Anderson tasked me to go to Eden Prime with Alenko and Jenkins to recover a Prothean beacon. A turian named Nihlus is to accompany us and evaluate if I'm good Spectre material. I expressed my doubts to Anderson about trusting the turian, but Anderson is very clear about working with him. Yes, sir!
Eden Prime was a mess. Jenkins was shot right at the beginning, and further along the way we met soldier Ashley Williams and helped her shoot some geth. We investigated a dig site, found some humans on spikes that came back to life, saw a giant ship depart from the planet and we talked to a worker who claimed that Nihlus had been shot by another turian. We found Nihlus' body and took a train to get to the beacon. Alenko got too close so I hurled him out of the way, but it was already too late and I had a vision, then blacked out. Woke up in the Normandy's Med Bay, talked to Dr. Chakwas, Alenko and Williams, then we were on our way to the Citadel Council.
Together with Ambassador Udina we incriminated Saren, but the Council refused to believe it. Alenko suggested to look for a turian named Garrus, who was arguing with his C-Sec superior about Saren when we first entered the tower. Anderson also told us it might pay out to go to Barla Von, but since that turian is already investigating I thought it best to check out what he knows. We talked to Harkin, a nasty C-Sec officer whom I put right into his place. We were directed to the Med Clinic to find Garrus. When we arrived, the doctor was threatened by some thugs and we helped taking them out. We learned that a quarian came by the Med Clinic and had some evidence we could maybe use. The trail led to Fist. The turian was very eager to help take Saren down and wants to come with. I told him No, but he claimed that he's not like Saren and I can see he really wants to prove that Saren is a traitor. I gave in and reluctantly agreed to his plea, but also let him know I don't trust him and will keep my eye on him. Can't be too careful. The turian mentions a krogan who was also sent after Fist, but we'll take care of this problem alone.
Alenko, Williams and I roughed up Fist in Chora's Den and after we got the info we needed we left Fist behind and rescued the quarian. In Udina's office we checked out the evidence, and when the quarian wants to join our cause I tell her she's not up to it. However Udina kind of has the last word in it and makes me accept her help. We are off to meet the Council again to present the evidence. They couldn't ignore it this time. This is all bigger than we thought.
I was made a Spectre and I'm supposed to meet Udina and Anderson at the Docking Bay. On my way I was approached by a krogan. He claimed it was his job to take out Fist, but is impressed with what I did, so he transferred his money into my account. Uh...ok. Definitely weird, but also a surprising move. Turned out the krogan also wants to join my crew but I told him he'd only be trouble. He claimed he doesn't cause problems, he solves them, so on a second thought... Krogan are supposed to be tough fighters, aren't they? That might come in handy given what we face, if only being cannon fodder.
After meeting Udina and Anderson I have 3 new leads and I'm left in charge of commanding the Normandy. I talked to the human crew before having cautious chats with the aliens.
I decide Alenko, Williams and I go to Therum first to find Dr. T'Soni, who is the daughter of Matriarch Benezia from the quarian's evidence. Let's see what she knows.
