Zapp B. Shepard
Vanguard/Sole Survivor/failshep
Over the past few days Zapp has continued to expand the crew. After all, the more crewmembers, the more life-insurance policies Zapp can take out on them, and the bigger payout once the suicide mission lives up tot its name. Joining the crew are one octocentenarian and a Drell assassin named "Thane", though Zapp swears he looks more like a "Kiff" than Thane.
After that, it was off to Grunt's home planet of Tuchanka. Turns out his frustration is just his quads dropping and he needs to undergo a puberty ritual. Not a problem, Zapp gets ready to tell him about the birds and the varren but quite naively forgets that Grunt is Krogan, and that means killing stuff. What they didn't tell Zapp was that it also includes fighting a Thresher Maw. Luckily, Zapp's tried and true Thresher Maw survival technique came through again, as Zapp ran and cried in a corner until the beast took pity on him and ended the right.
After a few more sidequests, TIM contacted Zapp to let him know that the collector craft had been disabled and was safe to board. Since this in no way whatsoever sounded like a trap, Zapp and the suicide squad headed out.

Recruited Javik
Noticed that he is not an exception - Protheans were quite fond of trolling
In the second flashback Javik tells Victory about the refugees that are yet to reach the bunker - "their sacrifice will be honored in the coming empire". In the final flashback, when the neutron purge is initialized Victory tells Javik the same about the online pods with living soldiers. ![]()
Also got a Red Dragon CENTROPHORUS-2000 DPI gaming mouse as a gift! Works much better than my old mouse from 2010 ![]()

Renegade
John Shepard on insanity...
Went to the Aratoht system to find Dr Kenson. Shepard had the choice of being covert and avoid enemies through ninja like stealth or go in all guns blazing. Shepard chose the latter. Kenson was rescued and she told Shepard about her project. The Reapers could use the Alpha Relay to arrive quicker than expected so Shepard's natural reaction is to blow the relay up. Kenson and Shepard made their way to asteroid facility and changed his heavy weapon to m920-Cain (I was hoping for complete devastation in the wave battle which follows. The heavy weapon was only at 50%
).
Kenson showed Shepard a Reaper artefact and had one of his visions. Kenson immediately showed her true yellow colours and set up an ambush. Shepard's next task was to survive this ambush. Surely a pure renegade Shepard can survive a couple of waves... nope, he didn't survive the first wave
(Slightly embarrassing as he didn't take down one enemy!!!
). Shepard woke up in some Cerberus attire??? and escaped. He died a couple more times against some pyro guards. Shepard started up the project and shot Kenson. He made his way to the Comm tower and apparently these guards are immune to the dominate ability
. Shepard eventually got to the Comm system and spoke with Harbinger. The relay got destroyed and talked with Hackett on the Normandy.
So this is Mass Effect 2 done and I've completed all the side-missions (apart from Grunt because he is still in the tank and Legion because he was sold).
Next stop ME3.

Legion: We do not understand what you mean by "device".
me: That's ok Legion. You answered my question. We'll talk later
me: The geth don't know anything about any device.
Traynor: At least you know. Hopefully we'll get more clues.
me: I'm sure we will Sam.
Koris: Save my people
me: No
Koris: Yes
me: No
Koris: Why?
me: You're needed with the civilian fleet to keep them safe
Koris: Ok.
moments later
Koris: Thanks Shepard
me: Now you have to pay the shuttle toll
Koris: The what?
me: See. I rescued you. Now you owe me
Koris: How much is the toll?
me: 50 000 credits
Garrus: Isn't that extreme Shepard?
me: No. Come on Koris. Cough up the credits or I throw you back to the geth
Koris: Wait? I can give you the heavy fleet to fight against the reapers.
me: Hmmm......hmmmmm. Ok
Garrus: You're mean Shepard
reaper: You will not find the device
me: See that's where you're wrong. I will. I'll tell you what? If you tell where the device is, I will give you safe passage back to the rest of the reapers
reaper: The device is something you cannot comprehend. Harbinger told us not to tell you
me: That's the problem. Harbinger is not here to tell you. Last chance. Tell me where the device is.
reaper: Even if I tell you, the rest of us will----
me: (renegade interrupt) AHHH SHUTUP.
Legion: I need the reaper code to become a boy
me, Tali, Ashley: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
me: You know Legion? You would make a good comedian
Legion: We do not understand. With the code, we can help you
me: Why do you need the code to help me:
Legion: I like to become a boy
me, Tali, Ashley: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
me: NO
Legion: You stupid organic. You will not get in my way of becoming a---
me: Thanks Tali
Tali: I knew this knife would come in handy
me: Care to join me in the cabin? It will take time to get back to the Citadel.
Traynor: Yes ma'am
me: Maybe you will let me beat you at chess

Finally beat the Collector Ship on insanity... that was pretty hard. Hopefully it'll be smooth sailing from here. TIM isn't so optimistic. "This is no time for petty grudges. Things are about to get a lot tougher."
Probably didn't have the best team for it (Jack and Miranda), but they just got into their fight.... so it was cool to have them face near-certain death afterwards.

Diana Allers do exist. And she's funny!
Revka went to Tuchanka but a modified reaper decided to ruin the party. Wrex do the thing he always do whenever he's around family (lol, look at the krogan behind Wrex)
Fortunately, he made Shepard an honorary Krogan hero. Which means family~~~~ right, Wrex? Oh yeah.
And I can never get tired of seeing him kicking ass!
But before the baby reaper decided to make Shepard-Vakarian-T'Soni flambé, the turian wing artimec came and save the squad. And I think Garrus was doing something here...
But Mordin had to do what he have to do...
The day when Tuchanka snowed..
Of course, Revvie had a gooey oily nightmare again.
and why does Joker keep looking at his fingers (and Garrus too) if he's talking about his elbow.
and we found Leng Kai again.
and Kaidan nearly killed Revvie...
but.... Revvie haz needs. omg, scruffy Kaidan with a gun~~~
But he pouted and Revvie let the newly minted hot shot Spectre on her ship again...
...and the friends with benefits thing is on again. Clever boy
and then we went to Eden Prime and Revvie got to use her superpower.
of course, the bloody prothean just have to do this. And everyone love to mind probe Revvie.
Then we save the family man..
And someone asked her out for a proper dinner and she accepted. We'll see how that turns out.
Album updated, still messy. and I got a new toy (Kindle Paperwhite!!!) and I'm playing Star Wars the Old Republic right now and SW-verse Revka became a Jedi Sentinel yesterday.

Like I have said before, Jack is fairly worthless on insanity. Better options are Thane with Warp, a loyal Samara wtih Reave (hard to get), Miranda with Warp, and Kasumi with Flashbang. Kasumi's flashbang when used on Harbinger will stop him from using his powers for about 50 seconds. If you put flashbang on Shepard it will also work, but sometimes you my not throw it right and it doesn't hit him precisely and you just wasted a cool down. So I found it was better to just bring Kasumi along and have her flashbang Harby for me, and then start Shadow Striking. Her Shadow Strike is the single most hard hitting power in the game. In fact, it is doubled against protections, so she can do over 1000 points of damage against barriers, shields, and armor.

Uh, what? Jack is probably my second-most used squadmate on Insanity (next to Mordin or Miranda depending on class).
You get her quicker than Samara/Morinth. Her Pull Field is faster than Jacob's. Crowd-control is king. There is a reason I like using her with every class in the game: because she goes together with every class in the game.

She has no protection stripping powers, which to a lot of players, including myself, equals worthless.
I know she isn't really worthless, you can use her if you want. But you can not focus her firepower like you can with (most) other squadmates from the start. You have to wait until someone else strips the protection, then let her pull and only then you can tell her to shoot something. If you don't, she'll waste her pull/shockwave on something with protection.
All that, and she can't detonate.
Btw, my favourite ME2 squad is:
Sentinel Shepard (or Biotic Shepard if you use this squad purely for main missions against Collectors and Husks, which turns Thane into a detonator instead of a controller. Upgrade Warp accordingly)
Thane
Zaeed.
Zaeed has, without a shred of doubt, the most undervalued power in the game: Inferno Grenades. They are fantastic and work on everything. They won't strip shields, but they will stagger shielded enemies. That, and he has really, really high damage output with his weapons through his class power.
Thane has the highest weapon damage output of all squadmates against Collectors with his weapon power (Collectors are organics). Class power also greatly increases his weapon output. Collectors drop like flies.
Sentinel Shepard is just a monster.
Though this squad could work just as well with Samara (or Jack, I suppose) instead of Zaeed, and your team becomes a detonation machine.
But really, try Zaeed and Thane, it's hilarious on main missions.

Zapp B. Shepard
vanguard/failshep
So I'm am now convinced that the Collectors didn't create the Scions, but instead have them on loan from Satan himself. But after lots and lots of trying, I finally completed the Collector Ship. So it turns out.. big surprise... TIM was not quite on the up and up about the ship being disabled. The Collectors sprung a trap on Zapp and company and things were pretty bleak. Grunt did an admirable job of soaking up damage, but Miranda was squishy, though her squad buffs proved invaluable. But Zapp eventually managed to break through an escape the ship.
After recovering, Shep decides to talk to his crew. Tali informs Shep that she needs to leave for a little bit to go fight some treason charges on the flotilla. Zapp tells her he'd be happy to help. Tali informs him that she never asked for his help and is pretty sure she's better off without Zapp as her defense attorney. However, Zapp insists he has seen plenty of Law and Order and Tali, knowing she is not going to win this fight, tells him he can come along. After all, she still is Vas Neema, and it's not like the admirals will let an alien defend a person not even formally part of their ship.
Finally beat the Collector Ship on insanity... that was pretty hard. Hopefully it'll be smooth sailing from here. TIM isn't so optimistic. "This is no time for petty grudges. Things are about to get a lot tougher."

That mission was brutal the first time I did it on insanity. I was lucky enough to be an infiltrator, so the Widow was a lifesaver, but even just playing my vanguard on hardcore was difficult. I learned early on that shotguns aren't quite as useful in ME2 as they were in ME1. But ya, if you can get through the Collector Ship on insanity, the rest of the came shouldn't be that bad.

I still spread out the squadmates, but yeah, she isn't useless. Else I wouldn't have beat that Collector Ship (let alone with Miranda, whose Overload isn't used there).
Even with all the shields and armor on insanity, I still find her useful. It might not sound good on paper, but I think her fast recharge provides a lot of intangibles, and can interrupt enemies or save your ass in the nick of time.
I'm curious how she plays out with Liara (for LotSB). Because they're badass together on other difficulties (with my soldier at least).

On another note, I was kind of playing a Paragon (but probably going Renegade in 3), and I didn't know I could kill Samara this way. I didn't do it, but I saw the option for it. Strange....

me: Why are you telling me this now?
asari councilor: We want to help. Revealing this artifact hopefully will help
me: Really? Sound like you and your people have their backs to the wall and the reapers forced your hand.
councilor: Maybe so, but at least we're giving you some help
me: Tell me something. Would you or your people have told me about this if the reapers weren't threatening your homeworld?
councilor:.........
me: That's what I thought. You don't care about the other species, do you? You refused to show up to the summit and then when I was able to help the Turians by having the Krogan help them, you jump onboard.
councilor: Better late than never.
me: What would your reaction be if another species refused to reveal something that might help the war effort?
councilor: .........
me: Its all about your kind remaining number 1 isn't it? If this artifact does turn out to be the key to helping, what do you think the rest of the galaxy will think when they find out your people refused to reveal it earlier?
councilor: They won't know. They'll be busy rebuilding if the reapers are stopped.
me: Yeah. Good luck with that. As long as I'm around after the reapers are stopped, the galaxy will know. I'll make sure of it. And if I'm not, there will be others that will tell the galaxy
Miranda: I need access to Alliance records
me: Ok.
Miranda: I have to tell you that I wanted to put a control chip in you to try and make you a better dancer, but TIM wanted the real Shepard
me: You know my dancing skills are terrible, but I like to fix that after the reapers are stopped.
Miranda: Really? Any reason why?
me: Just to avoid listening to people say how badly I dance
Miranda: Ok. I need to get going. I'll stay in contact
Ashley: Any update Commander?
me: No. Even Sam hasn't found anything since the attempted coup.
Ashley: What are we going to do if we don't find this game or device or whatever its called?
me: First off. Stop the reapers. After that....I'm not sure.
Ashley: So with Udina dead, its only you, me, Sam and Anderson that know about the item?
me: That's right. If anyone else knows about it, I don't know who it would be. Come on. Lets get back to the Normandy. Before we head to Thessia, I want to see about some Cerberus scientists

Jack wants a new lamp. She said “sounds like fun, I’m not carrying sh*t though.” Next cutscene, she was helping Shep carry the geth to the ship. She must really want that lamp.
Jacob was very opposed to keeping it, and said “Tali’s going to freak when she hears this”. Speaking from experience, Mr Please-Introduce-Yourself-To-The-AI? No one had anything to say about a geth being onboard the ship, except Kelly.Maybe EDI will enjoy having a robot friend.
I also found Jack carrying the robot in the cutscene to be strange.
After you wake up the robot, Hadley and Matthews will have something to say. And Joker's line after Legion's loyalty mission will differ based on whether you rewrite or destroy the Heretics. If you destroy them, he will talk about "nice hit on those geth. There's still one in the AI core if you want to pick up the spare." I forget what he says if you rewrite them.
Veteran should not be too bad if you are doing well on normal. You get a big time jump in difficulty when you go to hardcore because how everything has protections. I was shocked the first time I played on hardcore and got to Freedom's Progress. Suddenly all the Loki and Fenris mechs had armor! ![]()

I find it odd that you mention that she will 'waste' her Pull/Shockwave on protections, then later mention that Zaeed's Inferno Grenades will stagger enemies with protections. Jack is the same: her Pull/Shockwave will also stagger enemies with protections, which I will do.
Her Pull can crowd-control every unprotected enemy, while Zaeed's Inferno Grenade will not affect Synthetics on health except for a stagger. Her Pull also increases damage dealt to enemies.
All squadmates deal about 50% less damage than Shepard, so I do not care about her damage. All squadmates are with me for power support.

Sentinel Shepard (or Biotic Shepard if you use this squad purely for main missions against Collectors and Husks, which turns Thane into a detonator instead of a controller. Upgrade Warp accordingly)

My favorite squad varies depending on class and build. My issue is that loyalty missions force me to take squadmates I do not like using on certain classes.
Miranda+Thane are my go-to squad for Shepards with Pull or Slam. I want their Unstable Warp for Warp bombs for area kills and staggers.
I am flexible on other classes, although I usually run a combination of Mordin (Full Cryo Blast) and Jack (Pull Field).
Zaeed's Inferno Grenade is a loyalty power, so not all Shepards get it. Plus, if you want it early, you have to complete his loyalty mission early which I rarely do; I usually complete it after the Disabled Collector Ship since I want my bonus weapon as soon as possible. And by that point, I am doing a lot of loyalty missions, so I am usually going with Mordin or Miranda as my main squaddie so he gets left behind.

If you can strip protection layers yourself or with the help of another squadmate, her Pull Field is one of the best crowd control powers in the game. And she can provide one the best ammo powers in the game for the whole squad. I really can't see her as worthless.
I struggle to mention a worthless squadmate in ME2. They all have their uses. Even Legion can be useful against Collectors due to his Combat Drone and Widow. He and Grunt will probably be at the bottom of the list alongside Jacob.

List of useless squadmates in ME2:
- Grunt
That is all.
Legion is situational. Best used against synthetics with AI Hacking.
Tali is the same as Legion. Best used against synthetics with AI Hacking. Her Energy Drain is useful but is a loyalty power and I tend to get it too late to be useful and I have to spend points into Combat Drone to get AI Hacking so not nearly enough points for Energy Drain unless I ignore her passive.
Both Tali's and Legion's combat drones are not that great since they have 30 second cool down times. A Sentinel can make the most use out their drones since he can reset their cool down with Tech Armor.
