No, never the middle route. I go for the sniper's perch. And then Garrus lays it on thick, along with Shepard and the Arc Projector. As it should be.
Always bring jack along too, although she might not be ideal for synthetics. I just love these 4 together.
edit: Hmm.. I don't know about the speed on insanity. Never did it that way. You'll want to rush in that first part though.. Get to the perch as quickly as possible.

Is it possible to save Kal'Reegar without using the Paragon interrupt?
Yes. It doesn't matter much what you pick. If he shoots the Colossus it's a bit more likely it will target him, but if you move fast enough you can kill it without Reegar dying.
Just how fast are we talking about? I'm playing on Insanity

I have no idea how fast you have to be. I do not think anyone has extensively tested it. It could be based on time, or it could be based on damage (to Kal'Reegar). I had him die once on one my first Renegade playthroughs, but now I am generally fast enough that he does not die.
I have gone up the middle before. But it was with a Vanguard, so it not so much "up the middle" and more like "straight up charge the Colossus".

What I do is head to right side up the ramp and than to the Colossus. Plenty of cover to use. I'm not sure how long, but unless you just stay in one spot, you should be ok

I did once. Wasn't bad. The sun frying my shields was more harmful than dealing with the geth

On a completely different side note, I have this whole headcanon with Reegar and Jack's kids being the ones who rescue Garrus' dad on Palaven. It seems like her dialogue about Rodriguez and rescuing civilians on Palaven, and Reegar dying on Palaven come up around the same time. And Garrus finally gets confirmation about his old man later.
/random
Anyways, RIP Kal Reegar. You don't hire Adam Baldwin, and basically do jackshit with him. What a waste. If only there had been actual missions on Palaven... They could've included all kinds of good stuff. Reegar, Sidonis, Jack, Grunt..

Just when she was about to go buy her party supplies, Revka received a memo from Hackett to meet up with a paleontologist. Unfortunately before she could get anything from the reaper historian, his lab assistant killed him. He was about to gun down Rev when he began to move in slow motion and she tackle him down effortlessly because those science outfit cause them to lose all their muscle mass and made them easy to topple.
With the help from EDI, she manage to track down one of the project member to an asteroid mining facility. But this time she received an interesting reception.
Fortunately, darling came along and he won't let creepy people take her away.
After snooping around the creepy lab, the scooby gang found a guy who called himself Garneau but he is kinda loony with a penchant for giving headaches with shock wave...
...and suicidal tendencies.
So Miss Nancy Drew and the gang were back to square one...
With all of her intellectual acuman, she found the location of our paleontologist's next of kin. Time to rescue another scientist from a dig site overrun by hostile forces.
After shoving the science lady into the shuttle, things get really trippy for everyone.
And even more trippy...
Naturally, Revvie's Knight-Commander Alenko came to her rescue.
and they escape the planet in style~~~

Eve: What's wrong Commander?
me: I was watching the movie Ghostbuster, when I had to come on this mission. A good movie.
Eve: Don't worry Commander, you'll see it again
me: I'm sure I will.
Eve: Hello Grunt
Grunt: Oh crap. Does this shuttle have a shower?
me: What's wrong Grunt?
Grunt: Nothing. I just need to kill something.
Eve: ENOUGH. Look you punks. Do want the genophage cured or not?
Wreav: Of course they do.
me: Lets get the show on the road
Traynor: Are you going to cure the genophage Commander?
me: Lets talk later about that Colonel. We need to get to the shroud
me: Where are we?
Eve: You must be in the secret location that our famous Krogan kept his paintings. A great Krogan known as Michelkrogano
me: Wow. Some nice paintings. I bet these would sell for a lot of credits
Wreav: Enough of that crap Shepard. Get to a spot so we can pick you up
Grunt: At last. Reapers ground forces. Feel the bloodrage
me: See Traynor. This is what happens to Grunt with that fade touched item you added
Traynor: Sorry.
me: Nothing to be sorry about. Too bad you didn't have one for everyone else
Mordin: Ok Shepard. I won't cure the genophage.
me: Good. Here's you 100 credits. Also here's the coordinates to help build the microphone
Mordin: Microphone?
me: Yeah. That's what Petrovsky wants to call it.
Wreav: Good job Shepard. I will send troops to Palaven
Grunt: I like to stay and fight with you Shepard
me: Of course. Can't have my little baby not helping me fight the reapers
Grunt: Hehehe
Petrovsky: Good job Shepard
me: How's the project?
Petrovsky: Its going well. Keep sending more supplies and people. Any word about the councilor?
me: Nothing yet, but I do have an idea that might work. I'm currently headed back to the Citadel. Shepard out
Victus: I will send ships once the microphone is completed Commander. I will see you later
Sidonis: I like to stay on and help , if that ok Commander?
me: Its ok
Traynor: What now Commander?
me: It will take time getting back to the Citadel, so I'm going to get some rest
Traynor: Feel better?
me: Yes I had a really cool dream. I dreamed I was at a Led Zeppelin concert and ended up singing Stairway to Heaven with Robert Plant
Traynor: Wow. I like their music. We should be at the Citadel in a few minutes.
me: Good.

Never use the middle, it's too open unless I'm going with vanguard charging the Colossus directly. Otherwise I always go the right side. Plenty of open space to shoot with lots of low cover to duck behind. If Shepard is fairly active the Colossus should target you, it will switch to Reegar if he's shooting at it and Shepard isn't hoarding all the attention.
My speed depends on if I'm letting Reegar die or not. If he lives I'll blast my way through the Geth in a matter of seconds, come up on the side and the Colossus forgets about Reegar. If I want him to die, my speed always becomes: "Would you die already, Reegar? I got Geth to shoot, and Tali to recruit. I ain't got all day." I really have to wait for Reegar to die. The Geth is so obsessed with Shepard all the time.
It's not much of an answer since play style is always player dependent. Get good gear, double overloads (or triple with Shepard) and hit the Geth fast and hard. Best offense is a strong offense ![]()

AI hacking is the best. On my last playthrough I found out the Colossus will shoot at hacked buddies. Of course, you would need to be an Engineer, or bring Legion (both of which were true in my last go-round).

Mh, so I think it took me around 10 minutes from finishing the Reegar conversation to finishing off the colossus on Insanity. Maybe the time limit is 5? ![]()

Liara has both warp and warp ammo. What’s the point of that?? Having warp surely renders the ammo a little redundant?
Warp ammo does extra damage to targets effected by a biotic power like Warp, Singularity, Pull, Dark Channel or Reave. So, technically, it makes sense. I even picked it as a bonus power for a while in preference to armor piercing. But after thinking about it, I decided the armor piercing was better for me since the only time I am hitting people with a biotic power is to prime them for an explosion. So the effect never lasts long enough for the ammo power to matter since once the target is exploded, warp ammo's extra damage does not apply.

Renegade
John Shepard on insanity...
Shepard chose to follow a lead with Dr Bryson so he travelled back to the Citadel. Once inside the lab, the conversation was cut short as the assistant murdered the doctor and then he pointed the gun at Shepard. Shepard decided not to react straight away (because it was a paragon interrupt) but decided to do a shoulder tackle rather than get shot. Shepard got a chance to question the assistant and was intent to let him know he was a murderer. Shepard apparently failed to realise the indoctrination and the assistant's unusual behaviour beforehand. EDI was the one who needed to remind Shepard of the indoctrination possibility
. The Leviathan search had begun and sleuth Shepard decided to search the murder scene for clues. There was no time wasted in this search as the blood on the floor hadn't even had time to dry out.
Needed to find Garneau so Shepard took EDI/Javik to a creepy meteoroid facility. The workers were just gawking from the side-lines and spoke in monotone which added to the eerie atmosphere. Garneau was found in the Med Bay. Garneau's voice became deeper and spoke of the "Darkness must not be breached". Shepard again reacted naively by asking "Doctor?" but luckily EDI was there to keep him on track as she said it was not Garneau
. Fought through Reaper forces and found out that Leviathan can kill Reapers and can control minds so it's a potential useful ally.
Returned to Bryson's lab to find some clues which he missed the first time. Shepard didn't stay long as he began his search for Ann. Ann was found in a cliff side facility which was on the brink of collapse. Shepard navigated the terrain and was halted by a collapsed bridge (Shepard died against the Banshee
). EDI would have been the natural choice for the bridge repairs because of her tech knowledge but Javik decided to do the repairs
. Ann showed signs of Leviathan influence but Shepard managed to shake her out of it and evacuated the facility. Back at Bryson's lab again and Ann was upset about her father's death. Vega decided to show up and hang around in the background. Vega persuaded Shepard to take the husk experiment for the Normandy so Shepard agreed (Ann was standing right in front of them and she didn't object to this appropriation!). Needed to trace the Leviathan's location so Ann allowed more mind control. Shepard maintained the connection as long as he could. Ann was feeling the effects of the mind control and collapsed on the floor with a bloody nose. Shepard didn't assist though as he focused on the information lead with EDI
.
Went to the Leviathan homeworld and it didn't go smoothly as the shuttle was hit by a pulse. The shuttle crash landed (this area is my favourite part of this DLC because of the environment such as the waves crashing against the ship, rain, debris in the ocean). Fought through more Reaper forces and the plan was to descend to the ocean floor. EDI was the one concerned was Shepard's welfare rather than Javik. Shepard descended the ocean in a mech armed with flares and he eventually came face-to-face with the Leviathan creature. They had a chat in the ocean depths and Leviathan was using it's mind tricks. Shepard tried to make the Leviathan join the war effort by giving it a guilt trip saying the Reaper war was their fault. Leviathan joined so now Shepard has an Apex predator ally. After resurfacing, Leviathan had taken the alliance talk to heart as it saved Shepard straight away from two Brutes. Javik decided to come to Shepard's rescue and they left the planet on the shuttle. Ann was not so lucky as the mind control was too much and died
.
Shepard went back to the Citadel to take a break from all the action by taking some shore leave. The Normandy needs to be in top shape before the final confrontation with Cerberus.
Next Stop will be Anderson's apartment.

Warp ammo can be good for squad version with certain squadmates. Example, Soldier with Warp Ammo, Javik and James. Javik's Dark Channel jumps from target to target who are killed with the group's combined assault rifle fire. Won't be as badass as Explosive Burst but still good ![]()

Jack: Any idea why Cerberus is attacking the Citadel?
me: None. We need to stop them and get to the council
Traynor: Who's that?
me: Not sure. It looks like Bruce Lee with a pony tail. Stop him before he hurts the councilor
Jack: I'm going to hurt you pal.
no name: No you're not.
Thane: I beg to differ.
no name: What? How is that possible? Curses.
everyone: cough....cough
me: Is everyone ok? That was a smokebomb
Thane: I'm ok. I need to rest for a moment.
me: Take your time Thane. Jack. Colonel. Lets get that guy
Traynor: The ones with the swords can be taken out by shooting thier hand.
me and Jack: How do you know?
Traynor: Watch........That's how. Firing at their hand has the pulse reverse itself frying the individual
Jack: Your girlfriend is amazing Shepard
me: Ah... yeah. Who knew?
Ashley: Are you going to shoot me?
me: No. Would you like someone else to shoot you?
Ashley: What?
me: Traynor! Shoot Udina.
Bailey: Hard to believe Udina was a bad guy.
me: Me too. I actually iiked the guy. I have a question for you. Have you noticed any change in the asari councilor's behavior?
Bailey: The only thing is she seems more serious than before. Maybe its because of the reapers. They have everyone on edge.
me: Mmmm. I'll talk with you later Bailey
me: How you doing Thane?
Thane: I'm ok. The doctor told me no more streessful events for me. I'm waiting for my son to show up and take me back to my apartment.
me: Thanks for the help Thane. There is one thing you can do that won't be stressful. Do you know anyone that has noticed anything different about the asari councilor?
Thane: I can check my contacts. It will take time. Anything specific you're looking for?
me: Anything that seems out of character for her.
Kasumi: After the coup, the asari councilor sent a lot of messages to this Matriarch Bethesda. Still haven't been able to track those messages
Samara: It is odd. Never heard of Matriarch by that name.
me: Keep at it. I have someone I need to talk with that may be of some use
Samara: Before you go Shepard. I learned asari high Command has sent commandos to a facility that house Ardak Yakshi. You remember my daughter? My other 2 daughters are there and I must go see what is going on
me: If you like, I can come with you.
Samara: Would you?
me: I can. Get onboard the Normandy and talk with Colonel Traynor at the CIC. She can set you up with some things that will help
Samara: Sounds good. And thank you Shepard
Al Jalani: What do you want me to do Commander?
me: Stir things up for the asari especially the councilor. Announce publicly that the asari refused to send someone to a summit we had to deal with the reapers and help get an alliance with the Krogan and Turians. If that gets the result I'm hoping for, I'll let you come on the ship.
Al Jalani: I can do that.
Petrovsky: Shepard. I have Colonel Klink with me to update about the microphone
me: Colonel. How are things on Earth?
Klink: I replaced Anderson. Too many were getting killed because of his nonsense. Things aren't too bad the further we move away from the main cities.
Petrovsky: Your assassins name is Wiley E. Coyote. Be careful. He maybe a klutz, but he can do a lot of harm
me: I'll keep an eye out.
Petrovsky: Any update on your end?
me: Yes. I'm hoping to get a lead shortly that will answer a few questions. Until then, Shepard out.
Ashley: What is this?
me: That's a cheerleader uniform with pom poms. I want you to wear that and when I come back from a mission, I want to hear a cheer from you
Ashley: You can't be serious?
me: I am Ashley. This is punishment for talking crap to me about Cerberus. The only reason I don't leave you off the ship is you killed that Krogan on Virmire for me. You will always have my thanks for that, but talking crap to me about Cerberus, I can't let that slide
Ashley: Fair enough. I guess its better than being shot at on a mission with you
me: That's the spirit
