Today we followed Liara's lead on the distress signal from Mesana. Several asari commandos had been sent there already, but nothing was heard back from them.
During the shuttle ride I learned we are headed for an Ardat-Yakshi monestary. Ardat-Yakshi... like Morinth. She scared the sh*t out of me back then, and Liara assured me they were nothing like Morinth, but I had mixed feelings about this mission, especially when Liara told us that the commandos were set out to destroy that place. Could be dangerous.
At least I wasn't going in alone.
James, Javik and I approached the monestary with the goal to blow this place up.
When we entered, the whole place was dark, creepy, and we heard screams that makes your blood run cold. It didn't help that James was tripping over something and scared me half to death.
We found dead Reapers and a dead asari, not too promising, but fortunately we left this place soon enough. James had found a data pad with the bomb's location, the Great Hall.
We continued and a surprise waited for me. Samara was here. It's good to see her, though not under the best circumstances. She had come for her two remaining daughters, but the place was already crawling with Reapers.
After Samara ensured me that her other daughters are not like Morinth, I offered to help her look for them. Hearing Samara then say she hasn't seen her daughters for centuries saddened me. They are still a family, why are they not seeing each other more often when they still have the chance?
We split up and the three of us continued our way, and James asked why the Reapers would be interested in this place specifically, but I got nothing.
We found out soon enough. We encountered a new Reaper, a horrendous creature, a bizarrely deformed asari figure, and... source of these bloodcurdling screams. Taking it down took some team effort, but we managed.
We met Samara again and she introduced me to her daughter Falere, which quickly revealed that the Reapers had gotten a hold of her sister Rila.
Falere ran off to get to her sister, and Samara after her, but we all have the same destination anyway - the Great Hall.
After killing more Reaper forces and another of these asari abominations, we entered the Great Hall. Falere and Samara stood beside the bomb and Rila, who was unconscious. She came to shortly after, but her eyes turned black and she tried to kill Falere... it was too late for her already.
As we looked for a detonator for the bomb, more asari Reapers appeared. We took care of them and returned our attention to the bomb. Rila had another clear moment and pressed us to go for the elevator while she would blow this place up. Falere was reluctant, but there was no time, we had to leave. I dragged her along and we reached the elevator, soon hearing that Rila accomplished what she wanted to. I felt bad for Falere, and Samara, too. Their family torn apart.
Back outside Samara and her daughter talked about what had happened. Samara then drew her gun, saying that her justicar code denies Ardat-Yakshi the right to live outside a non-existing monestary. For a moment I thought she's gonna kill her last daughter, but she put the gun to her own head. Samara, no! I had to stop her. I can't let her do this, taking away Falere's mother as well, after already loosing both sisters. No one should go through such a thing...
Upon returning to the Normandy I checked up on the crew and saw it would be time for another Citadel stop. Kaidan, Liara, Javik and Garrus wanted to meet up with me next time we're there. We took the little detour while we were on our way to Arrae to check out the Ex-Cerberus Scientists.
While I enjoyed the short talk with Samara and was amused by how Javik handled being discovered by a hanar, an asari and a turian, Liara and Kaidan were two rather serious meet-ups.
Liara reminisced about how the Citadel reminded her of where she grew up on Thessia, and she told me about her mother, that she missed her. I know too well...
I asked more about Benezia and Liara told me she was a kind person. I tried to comfort Liara, and she told me it'd be nice to spend more time together, as "friends". As it is, I told her I don't really have time for that (I'm assuming picking the other option, "I'd like that a lot" would've put me onto the romance path?
).
I left and went to find Kaidan at the Apollo Café, where he had invited me for dinner. He poured his heart out about how he is, and I learned that he doesn't sleep well. He wonders about "us" and told me yet again he loves me, but... since he touched that topic now, I immediately took the opportunity.
Now or never.
I told Kaidan that we should just keep it professional. He looked really hurt, and I felt so sorry for him, but it's better he knows and we can finally put this behind us. He deserves someone better than me, someone who can love him right.
After this rather unpleasant chat, Garrus had a good distraction ready. He took me up to the Presidium roof and we shot at bottles and reassured our friendship. What a great time.
Who would've thought back then when I first met Garrus we would be friends someday? I certainly didn't, but I am glad to have him.
Well, that turned out a little different, I initially wanted to let Samara kill herself, but I had forgotten that it's a preeetty long moment in which she holds the gun to her head, so plenty of time for my family-oriented Shep to react and save her.
As for Kaidan, it's done, and I went through with it, heh. Poor sod ![]()
And aaw, Shepard's tiny laugh after Garrus says "You're not going to propose marriage now, are you?", damn adorable!! ![]()

After Horizon, Jen Shepard (Biotic/Slam Soldier) went to Normandy's lounge bar to drink herself stupid. Unfortunately, Tali was already there and began to tell some sob story that Jen tuned out very quickly. She nodded politely and left as quickly as possible. Since there is nowhere on the Normandy she can hide from her crew, she traveled to a Communications Hub to shoot up some Cerberus goons.
Next was a stop in the Citadel Embassies to drop off some Cerberus Ciphers to some Turian who has stood in the same spot for several days collecting an unearned paycheck.
Then it was to the Silver Sun Strip to run some errands. Unfortunately, the following happened instead:
- Jack invited her to have some fun in the combat simulator.... and then apparently stole her prize money.
- James dropped by her apartment to show off his tattoo. It was ugly. No way is she going to get a matching tattoo.
- Tali dropped in uninvited as well, and then made herself comfortable and watched a movie. The movie sucked, so Jen devoured a bunch of popcorn until she puked.
- Traynor invited her for lunch. Jen called to say she was going to be late when she ran into Wrex at the bar. Wrex started complaining about his girl troubles, so Jen started drinking Ryncol. Bad idea, but at least it cut the meeting short.
- Jen finally made it to lunch with Traynor, but Traynor had decided to join some game tournament instead. She found it boring, so she chatted up Traynor's opponent (and long-time rival), but Jen's talking distracted the Asari and Traynor won the tournament. Great, now she will never hear the end of it.
- Grunt got himself into trouble with C-Sec and Jen had to bail him out. He screwed up his mission and Operation Fire Cobra Claw was a failure. She regretted not sending Garrus instead.
- James and Steve showed up at her apartment uninvited (like everyone seems to do) to watch some sporting event on her TV. They made her watch. She pretended to be interested in the game while she drank herself into a stupor. There was something about a bet but she cannot remember what it was about. She threw up in the toilet and fell asleep in the tub.
- Jack dropped by with her new pet. It peed on her floor.
- Miranda dropped by and asked for a drink. Jen obliged. She was turning into an alcoholic and did not care; it was the only way she was going to survive living around her crew.
Next, Jen plans to throw a big party for a bunch of her old and current squadmates. Not because she cares about them, but because she wants to get them all drunk and fall asleep so she can have a few quiet moments to herself.

After taking David Archer to Grissom academy, John Shepard finally completed the last group of side-missions. He completed his dialogues with Legion. It was almost time to head home and face the music regarding the incident with the batarians. But there was one last thing to do. Something he had been avoiding ever since he took command of this new - but now very familiar - vessel.
He went to the site where the original normandy had crashed more than 2 years ago. To another person, that place would look sterile, barren, empty. But he knew that the place was filled, overflowing... with memories. The ghosts from the past that refused to rest. He collected all the 20 dog tags, a few pieces of minerals, his old helmet, he read the memories of his old navigator, he contemplated his old vehicle and placed a memorial near the crash site.
After a silent goodbye, he took his shuttle and headed back to the SR-2. there, he reseted his powers, made a final save of his memories, and told Joker to set course to Alliance space. it was time to let the past rest, and embrace whatever future he was destined to face.
Continues in Mass Effect 3.

Found out that only visiting Ashley in the hospital once will result in her desire for me to experience an eternal flaming damnation at the hands of those destroying the galaxy. In other related news, resolved to save Kaiden next time.

Well, at least when you kill Kaidan he doesn't damn you to hellfire. OTOH, Ashley's response seems more realistic. ![]()

Seriously, I was completely shocked by this. It's only my 2nd playthrough of ME3 (first with DLC). I'd spent some time with Ash in the ship prior to Ilos in ME1 (I wouldn't call it a "romance"), and otherwise chatted with her occasionally in a positive way. Not giving her any special attention, but not being overtly rude. My first playthrough, I resolved the situation peacefully and Ash joined up. This time, POW right in the... abdomen. It's a little weird, since the shot taken was by EDI. You'd think she would want the death to be quick and efficient. Makes you wonder about how much reaper code she has running through her. ![]()

That's the funny thing, I didn't even kill her! I was just standing there wondering why my options looked slightly different this time than the last time I played through, and EDI made an executive decision to end her. So I'm there with Ash thinking "hurrr.. uhhh... medic.. durrr" and she delivers that bomb. I almost went back and replayed the mission so I could shoot her myself.

Did you... shoot the shuttle out of the sky?!
Well, if you are asking me... Hmm, let's see:
1. Destroyed the C-Sec shuttle. Can't let fake K get the Council.
2. Sniped all the troopers trying to escape in the shuttle.
3. Gave the Atlas a warm welcome, times 16.

You are not missing much. It is basically Shepard stepping out of bed and saying "Better see if anyone else is up." or something to that effect.
I can still record it (but you may want to check YouTube first to see if anyone else did), but it will not be tonight. Maybe tomorrow.

We headed for Arrae today to follow Traynor's lead on the ex-Cerberus Scientists. I was still a bit sceptical, but as soon as we were in the shuttle, Cortez picked up that Cerberus was already attacking the place, and when we landed we were greeted by them right away. We eliminated the enemies and located the survivors that fought Cerberus back.
Well, it was only one, but it was Jacob! He was wounded though and we were let inside the facility by Dr. Brynn Cole, another ex-Cerberus.
Jacob and Brynn told us that the scientists ran from Cerberus and we agreed on evacuating everyone as fast as possible, however first we needed to get the AA guns on the roof back online.
Both Jacob and Brynn went on ahead and I actually met Dr. Gavin Archer again, David's brother. I still hate this guy, after everything he has done to David. But I see that he regrets it. A little late now, maybe, but at least that's a good sign, seeing him cutting ties with the Illusive Man. I let him know I helped with Grissom Academy and that David is safe.
We met up with Brynn again and learned they even have their families and kids here with them. I had another brief chat with her and Jacob and then we proceeded to the roof. Time to get out of here.
After fighting more Cerberus troops we managed to activate the guns and returned to the others. When Jacob told me they're as good as ready, I gave the green light to evacuate right away and the first shuttle went on ahead, while me and my team dealt with the remaining Cerberus forces until all shuttles were through. Almost everyone made it out safely and Jacob picked us up shortly after.
I told both Brynn and Jacob I need their help against the Reapers, and they would be best put to work on the Crucible. They agreed and we returned to the Normandy, where I told Hackett about the new addition. I hope we'll get this Crucible finished soon. The sooner the better.
Gonna check up on the crew tomorrow, and then next stop: Perseus Veil.
Best thing today was only this ![]()
James: Holy balls, it's freezing out here!
Shepard: *totally indifferent voice* All right. Just keep moving.
As if she was thinking "Come on. Man up, you wuss!" ![]()

You mentioned you only visited her once. I will guess it was while she was unconscious. On Mars did you respond to her by picking the bottom right dialogue?
The only way to have her say that line is by not talking to her in the hospital and treating her poorly on Mars.
There was nothing funny about that scene. The pathetic so-called squadmates stood there like the idiots they are and not say anything while Udina accused Shepard of being with Cerberus. Had they spoken up, Ashley may of lowered her weapon.
The other thing is depending at what dialogue option and using the interrupt, will determine if she is shot or not.
If you did talk to her poorly on Mars and you didn't talk to her in the hospital, you can avoid shooting her, but she will not join you on the Normandy.
Also if you are nice to her on Mars and talk with her in the hospital, she still can be shot depending on what you do.
