After returning from our previous mission I checked up on the crew while we approached the Far Rim to meet up with the quarians. Jacob had also sent an e-mail that he's in the hospital on the Citadel, but since we're on our way already, I will postpone that visit until we're back in Council space.
Traynor informed me that Kaidan wanted to talk to me in the crew quarters, but first I told her she did a great job once again, first Grissom Academy, now Arrae. It's good to have her on-board, she's a bright young woman and she's got her heart in the right place.
Kaidan was taken aback that those Cerberus scientists we got out were good people. And it's got him thinking. He asked me what if there were more people like them, trying to get away from Cerberus. I told Kaidan that while the war takes priority, I am not opposed to help them if we can spare the time, anyone who will come forward.
Our talk then shifted to the people that pieced me back together after the Collectors hit the Normandy and then to the Illusive Man. I had nothing good to say about him. I didn't trust him back then, I don't do now. Even less now. I don't know what he thinks he's doing, but it feels like he's completely lost it. Like he's not himself anymore.
Kaidan seemed to think about this very hard, so I suggested he'd take his mind off for a while. And Joker had actually asked him to give him some poker tips as he keeps loosing his shirt to James. Good luck, Kaidan, that will be a lot of work.
In the mess hall, Garrus and James had a little pissing contest, boasting about their accomplishments over the years. I stood there listening to them, smiling. These two... I really don't know who has the bigger mouth.
When Garrus mentioned how he took down Saren, James argued that doesn't count since he did that with me. Garrus seemed to take pride in being with me from the beginning, and let James the Newbie know that. Cheap shot there. But all James did was saying that just means he's old.
I heard a crazy story about James hatching a Harvester egg and how he trained it to let him fly on it. Well... points for creativity.
The tide turned when James got all serious and said that Garrus has been through a lot, and after Garrus poking if James gives up he just said he got more, but wasn't willing to talk about. Garrus understood perfectly. And then they got all cute when they started complimenting each other, what they had achieved together so far... like curing the genophage. I still haven't really gotten over the fact that I could never ever tell anybody about how we actually did not cure the genophage, but I need to get this out of my head quick. So back to business.
As soon as we docked at the quarian envoy ship, the Admirals boarded the Normandy. Raan, Xen, Gerrel, Koris.
I cut right to the chase that I'd hoped they help us against the Reapers, but something's up. Admiral Gerrel told me that they have started a war with the geth in an attempt to retake their homeworld. Couldn't be a better timing, huh. They told me all about a signal broadcasting to all geth ships - Reapers...
The result being that the quarians are now pinned in their system. I offered to board the geth dreadnought that broadcasts the signal to disable it, so the quarians could retreat.
Right then Tali came in, reporting for duty. Good to see her! We had a quick chat, but she couldn't speak freely in front of the Admirals, so she suggested we could talk in my cabin. While we were on our way to the dreadnought, I invited Tali up to my cabin right away. She poured her heart out, scared so many lives are at stake. Because of her father, because of the geth parts she sent him. She felt it's her fault. I know guilt is hard to overcome, but I comforted her, reassuring her we will try our best to get the fleet out there safely. We'll see how it goes. First we need to stop that signal.
I told James to get ready to accompany Tali and me, and we were on our way.
