- Took back control of some Alliance comm towers before heading to Thessia
- Thessia looks bad. Really bad.
- So, the Asari have been hiding a Beacon in their Temple for centuries.
- Another Prothean VI! Meet our resurrected Prothean.
- This assassin is the douchiest assassin ever. I'll really enjoy killing him. A sword? A sword?!
- Almost died again. This is starting to happen too much.
- Thessia's lost.
- In which Javik and Liara have a surprisingly frank conversation about the Reapers and the war.
- Garrus and I had another "ruthless calculus" talk. Told him that I didn't cure the genophage. He was impressed. Thank goodness for that. Had to tell someone.
- Followed Assassin McDouche to Sanctuary.
- Hey Miranda!
- Hey Miranda's evil father.
- Patricide. Yeah, I can see that from Miranda. Gotta love that girl.
- I think it's time for everyone to get some shore leave.

I started my ME2 phase of my everyone dies play through.  For background I am not a psycho killer.  I do kill and kill often but it is due to temper or a quick trigger finger when being threatened.  I also make honest mistakes that get people killed.  These are judgement calls but the judgement is not out of pure malice but I have to logically be able to support my choices.

I thought Anderson would be pushing to better prepare for the Reapers.  Even with humans controlling the council things are not progressing as they should be.  They sent me off to explore the disappearance of a few ships.  I'm concerned this is waste of time.  We're in stealth mode searching for clues.  Then some cruiser size ship attacks us.  How can they track us in stealth mode?  Is this technology working?  Can the Reapers spot us while in stealth?  Something to keep in mind for the future.

The Normandy is torn apart and I race to save Joker.  After putting him in an escape pod I get blasted into space and everything goes black.

Death is weird.  I thought I dreamed about big butt women.

Wow what happened?  Where am I?  Alarms are going off and some chick is saying I got to get moving.  I fight my way through some mecs to find a guy named Jacob.  He says he's Cerberus.  Huh?  We have to get out and near the entrance someone named Miranda shows up and shoots this other doc that I remembered.  Oh well it's no concern of mine as I just want answers.

I talk to Jacob and Miranda then meet with TIM.  I've been dead for two years.  It seems the Alliance has done nothing in that time to prepare for the Reapers but TIM knows they are the real threat.  I finally agree to go work with Cerberus to see what is going on.  Well I once said I would have to be brain dead before I joined this group.  Just never thought it would happen this way.

We land on Horizon that just got wiped out.  I run into Tali who I can tell is still mad I never gave her that Geth data.  The other Quarians are real idiots and even Tali says so after they got killed.  I find a Quarian named Veeter that is a blabbering idiot but has some crucial information.  I sen him back to Cerberus for further interrogation against Tali's objections.  But he's the only clue as to what happened here and TIM promises to return him ASAP and in good health.

A couple of new surprises await me.  They got Joker and built a new ship just for me.  Joker fills me in on what happened and says the new ship is even better than the original.  Just hope the stealth works this time.  I also met my little hottie assistant and then found out Dr. Chakwas has joined us.  TIM says I need to recruit a crew so I head off to Omega to get a Salarian professor.

A I enter Omega I get invited to see an Asari that runs the place.  On the way there I run into Zaeed who TIM paid to join us.  I told him to get aboard and I'll tlak to him soon.  Aria fills me in somewhat about the Salarian and also about some guy named Archangel.  I decide to get the Salarian first.

It seems there is a plague killing off most species but humans and Vorcha are immune.  After entering the section I see a Batarian that wants to blame humans for the plague.  I left the racist be as I doubt I could change his mind and I have no cure so I moved on.  After fighting some criminal groups I encounter a couple hiding in their apartment.  I find out what I can and move on.  I then came across two humans looting the place.  This is just plain wrong.  I ask them to stop and they pull their weapons so I killed both of them.  Bad enough we're blamed for the plague, we don't need to loot the dead.

I finally meet the Salarian named Mordin.  He can talk forever so I had to interrupt him to get to the point.  Smart guy but eccentric as all hell.  He had a cure and told me what needs to be done.  I was also to look out for his assistant.  On the way to place the cure and restore power I came across the assistant being held by Batarians.  I tried to give a nod to my team to be ready as they shot and killed him.  I then killed the Batarians.  These guys are just bad.  Finally I fought my way through Vorcha and Krogans (were they immune also?) and placed the cure in the vents and turned on the power.  Mordin was somewhat sad that his assistant died but agreed to join us.

While on Omega I convinced an Elcor to go easy on a naive Quarian.  I ended up getting discounts at both places so that worked out.

My team now consists of Miranda, Jacob, Zaeed and Mordin.  So far I've killed or let die a sick Batarian, two looters, Daniel and the Batarians holding him.  But wouldn't those Batarians die from the plague anyway?  Not sure what happened to the couple I found.  Hopefully the gangs didn't get them.

Next tasks is to talk to everyone and go find Jack.

Oh man, of course the majority of the Citadel DLC went so smooth without dying at all so far that the clone fight gave me hell today :D After dying 3 or 4 times it broke my hotkeys and I had to reload, then I died 2 more times. Then I finally made it. It's still the toughest fight for me. I suck at getting away from grenades, or the clone, haha.

Videos here:

Spoiler

We cleared the path to the Normandy and boarded the ship. We found Traynor, who was upset and surprised when she saw me. She told me I had just fired her. I mentioned details about her toothbrush, proving I was the real deal.

With Traynor's help, or rather, said toothbrush, we could get inside the ship via the emergency exit hatch, crawling through some tight space.

We had the element of surprise on our side and took out all mercs in the CIC. I saw the clone wanted to get rid of my personal stuff. Damn you...

I'll stop her!

A tough fight broke out in the cargo bay and we were really under heavy fire, she's good, I'll give her that! But she can't be the real thing, and she never will be!

Eventually we wore her down enough, and I tackled her, rolling dangerously close to the edge of the open cargo ramp. I punched her in the face and she kicked me off, and then it happened. We were both thrown over the edge, barely hanging on to it. I saw Javik securing James while he grabbed my wrists, pulling me back up and thus saving my life. Never was I more glad in my life that I have this amazing team, that was a close one. Brooks did not help the clone, so much for partners, huh.

I stomped on my clone's hand and she fell off the ship. I might have shown pity if she wouldn't have been such a damn b*tch before.

Back inside the cargo bay Brooks was arrested, but she cut loose. Javik reacted quickly and shot her in the back. Well, you reap what you sow. I'm really not sad to see her dead.

After these adrenaline-filled events we docked and got off the Normandy to greet the rest of the team.

James jokingly asked me what I want to do for shore leave next time. Haha, Vega, I don't know, maybe we really can catch our breaths for once? I'd like that, and I'm sure everyone else would, too.

When I got back to the apartment Joker told me something about a party. I told him I would think about it, but it seems it was already too late. So... I guess we're having a party at some point. Yeah... why not.

These guys have really softened me up big time.

More banter and pictures :)

I've had Ashley and Garrus say some stuff. Never had James say anything until he shows up with the missile launcher

I'm always annoyed that a non-squadmate LI or no LI always means Liara is the first to call and I generally like Liara. I can't imagine what her haters feel. My Traynormancers would prefer Garrus or Javik to show up to help.

Journal Entry 5 of Marcus Shepard:

That whole mission on Virmire became FUBAR very quickly.

It started off as well as I could have expected: We had to neutralize an AA cannon just outside the base that the Salarian team was investigating so the Normandy could land at their position. The Geth set up defensive positions all over the place, along with plenty of Colussi to bolster the defenses. Business as usual.

However, once we reached the Salarian position, the **** started to hit the fan. The Salarian Captain, who named himself Kirrahe, wasn't all that thrilled that we were the only ones that showed up. Considering the fact that they were sent there initially to investigate the facility, our initial mission was quite repetitive. I couldn't blame him for his initial frustration. We then learn from the Captain that Saren was using the facility as a breeding ground for a Krogan army. Apparently, Saren found a way to cure or circumvent the Genophage. Kirrahe said that we couldn't allow Saren to have an army of Krogan at his disposal, and I agreed. But Wrex wouldn't hear it, and he insisted that we try to save the cure for the future for his people. When Kirrahe alluded to the fact that the Krogan uplift was a mistake in the first place, Wrex really went over the edge and stormed off. We couldn't go on with the mission at this point with Wrex in such an unstable mood, and Kirrahe said that he'd get his men ready while I tried to reason with my squad mate.

Unfortunately, I couldn't reason with him. He wouldn't let go of the idea of saving the Genophage cure, and I couldn't persuade him that it would be too risky to do so. When he drew his gun on me,...I did what I had to and put him down. On Torfan, I sacrificed my men to complete the mission and to prevent the Batarians from continuing their criminal and slaving operations, but I never had to personally kill someone that I was close to. This was one of the hardest things I ever had to do, but he left me no choice and I had to set my sorrow aside and continue with the mission.

Kirrahe was able to come up with a plan while I dealt with that unfortunate bit of business. Kirrahe donated the drive core of his ship to be used as a make shift nuke to destroy the base, and his men would act as a decoy and attack the front of the base while my team found a way to sneak in and arm the nuke. But there was an added caveat; Kirrahe needed one of my men to accompany him and bolster his forces. I was reluctant at first, but decided to send Ashley with them because I'd need Kaidan to arm the nuke. Of the two, he was more qualified for the job.

We didn’t run into much resistance on our way towards the base, and we dealt with a Geth Communications Tower, Satellite, and Flyer squadron. The Salarian team wouldn't do much good as a decoy if they winded up dead.

Once inside, we destroyed the labs that were used to breed the Krogan, and found the other half of Kirrahe's men in the process. They were indoctrinated. We also discovered that Saren was using the base as a means to investigate the indoctrination process itself. This didn't make much sense at first, and we eventually stumbled upon the labs that were used for this purpose. When we did so, we met an Asari Scientist named Rana Thanoptis who happened to be the research lead. She told us about the indoctrination signal that originated from Saren's flagship, and that Saren was concerned that it was affecting him too. She even gave us access to Saren's private lab, all in exchange for her life. Unfortunately for her, I was not in the best of moods, and there was no way that I was going to risk the possibility of her warning Saren about our whereabouts. So I dealt with her.

When we entered Saren's lab, we discovered another Beacon, and we also discovered that Saren's flagship was not just a ship; it was an actual Reaper. We learned that the Protheans were not the first victims of the Reapers, and that they were planning to do the same to this "cycle." At this point, I had to destroy the base as quickly as possible and warn the Council.

After mowing through more Geth and Krogan, we reached a suitable bomb site, and Kaidan went to work immediately. Ashley contacts me not long after, saying that she and Kirrahe’s team were getting overwhelmed by Geth. On the way to their position, a Geth ship landed at the bomb site, and I had to choose between saving Kirrahe and his remaining forces and protecting the bomb, while deciding the fate of Ashley and Kaidan at the same time. In the end, I decided to return to the bomb site. If the Geth found a way to disarm it, then we’d fail the mission and risk allowing Saren to continue breeding his Krogan Army. Saren himself paid us a visit when the Geth failed to overwhelm the bomb site, and revealed his plan and connection to the Reapers. He was insane to even consider aiding them, and he even sounded delusional. He even almost succeeded in subduing us, but retreated when the bomb went active. In the process of retreating ourselves, Kirrahe and his team fought their way to the bomb site, and we evacuated them as well.

Unfortunately, Ashley didn’t make it. Killing Wrex was hard, but losing Ashley too was even harder. Back on the ship, I was actually surprised by how badly their deaths affected me. I sacrificed plenty of my men back on Torfan, and their deaths didn’t nearly hit me so hard. But I didn’t get to know those men too well. I was in charge of a platoon then, and many of them were fresh out of boot camp. Being in charge of only 6 people allowed me to become more familiar with my team, which also allowed me to utilize their strengths more effectively during a mission. I also became rather close with all of them. Every last one of them proved their worth, and I never had to worry about them failing me. But this had the unfortunate side effect of becoming attached to them as well. Becoming more personal with them wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I should have maintained a necessary distance as well. I can’t afford to allow my sentimentality hinder my ability to make the necessary decisions. I won’t make the same mistake again by allowing myself to grow too attached to my men.

At least I now have the location of the conduit thanks to that beacon in Saren’s private lab and Liara. Now all I need to do is find the location of the Mu Relay. Next stop, Noveria.

Player’s Note: I was actually surprised to see Ashley die in this play-through. I was fully expecting her to survive this time. But Marcus “decided” otherwise.

A little bit of this, until the game crashed. Should have got the warning signs when Liara's a.i. crashed and she spent most of the time staring at the wall stock still.

Continued Hal today. Picked up Jack then saved the refinery from Zaeed's blood fury. Firewalkin' is done, going to do an early Overlord then pick up Grunt, not sure if he will be awake for this run as Wrex is dead and I'm planning on sabotaging the cure. Legion is going to Cerberus for sure, likely Grunt as well.

Brad Shepard (Marksman Sentinel) flew to a very cold and snowy planet to rescue some Ex-Cerberus scientists from a Cerberus goon squad. The Indra is a very strong weapon, especially when combined with Incendiary Ammo from James Vega, which was expected actually. Spoke briefly with Dr. Gavin Archer because he was a bad person in ME2, then spoke briefly with Jacob because he is very annoying in ME3. Fixed the communications, then distracted Cerberus while the civilians escaped.

Brad Shepard then equipped a Piranha shotgun and dropped in on Tuchanka to go rescue a Turian Platoon. The Reaper Ground forces did not last long, because the Piranha with Incendiary Ammo is very strong which was expected.

Brad Shepard modded the Phaeston then went to go disarm a bomb uncovered by Cerberus. The Phaeston with Incendiary Ammo (I figure I need to bring James on more missions) is pretty good with Marksman. Phaeston feels like an unscoped Indra.

A real small update today.

After gaining the services of Mordin I went and talked to the crew.  Everyone had an idea for an upgrade.  Not sure which ones I'll actually use as I hate mining and resources are limited.  I decided to hold off on the ship's armor but did upgrade Mordin's tool (no not THAT tool) and the scanning ability.  Why does Cerberus make me scan for stuff when TIM is so rich?

Anyway, I set off to get Jack the psychotic biotic.  I met with the warden and my senses said something was wrong so I refused to give up my guns.  I came across some guards beating a prisoner and forced them to stop.  it's fine to torture but you need a reason like getting information.

I come to find out that my instincts were right.  the warden is corrupt and tried to take me out.  I fought my way and released Jack from her isolation.  That's one powerful biotic and not much clothes either.  After a bunch of fighting I finally get to kill the warden.  What an idiot he was.  I then run into Jack who agrees to come if I turn over Cerberus data.  Miranda was pissed off but I agreed to do it.  It does make me laugh hearing Jack call her a cheerleader.  I wonder if Jack is interested in a romp or two?

On the ship I keep my promise to Jack and Miranda doesn't like it.  But it's not Alliance data so who cares.  I'm now off to get archangel then a famed thief.

On background I finally decided who and how they will die in this run.  I think I might have one death that even Themikefest didn't have in her(?) epic run.  And I think I'm able to do all loyalty missions except for three and still have them killed off.

Today I'm verifying my mass effect install directory as I got the infamous feros lift bug.
Joy.

Also, whilst it was doing that, played some Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Man, games were harder in those days - I had so much more patience.

Brad Shepard (Marksman Sentinel) finally met with the Quarian Admirals, who wanted assistance with destroying a Geth Dreadnaught. Since Shepard is kind of an expert at blowing things up -- sort of; he just tends to go places and things blow up around him -- he agreed to help them out.

So he took his Viper sniper rifle (it seemed like a good idea at the time) and then James and Sparks boarded the dreadnaught. The ripped apart a bunch of Geth until they made it to the drive core where they discovered Legion was being used by the Reapers to broadcast a Reaper signal to all Geth. So they freed Legion who then disabled the drive core, which then alerted all the Geth on the ship. And if fighting more Geth was not enough, Admiral Han Gerrel decided to go full-out crazy and attack the Dreadnaught instead of retreating. Not sure what part of "let Shepard destroy the dreadnaught" he did not understand.

Luckily, Legion helped Shepard and company board a Geth fighter and escape the dreadnaught before it exploded.

A couple of notes:

  • Ashley would have been great on this mission with her Disruptor Ammo. Unfortunately she is dead so I had inferior squad.
  • I specced Tali into her Combat Drone instead of her Energy Drain like I typically do. It was... meh.
  • For some reason, James started the mission with only 2 grenades instead of 6. The only explanation I can think of is that Tali stole some of his grenades as payback for him calling her "Sparks". That only reinforces the stereotype that all Quarians are thieves.
  • I ran out of ammo at the end and had to run around trying to kill Geth with Tech Armor detonations. Kind of hard to do when trying to avoid the Geth Prime attacks.

I still somehow managed to do it without dying. I regret taking the Viper on this mission, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Holy ****** **** the clone was an ordeal when playing Infiltrator on Hardcore. Had to restart the mission a couple of times to get the gear and companion combination to kill her. Well, lessons learned:
Hide and snipe is not a valid strategy for that fight, thus Saber and Black Widow is a really poor weapon combination
Locust with disruptor ammo eats shields for breakfast. Well, not a lesson, but reminder. Though at that short range as i mostly shot her, Tempest would have probably been even faster.
Supressor with AP ammo murders anything with armor in less than one clip. Sure, level 5 Black Widow with AP ammo killed the Heavies trough their shields in one headshot, but it didn't take much more with the level 1 Suppressor
Meatshields with meatshields, in other words Tali, is always useful

Well, it's nice that there is at least one fight in the game that causes Alt-F4 rage quits ^_^  That was so much easier with Vanguard, just Charge, Nova, shotgun and Charge.

Also, whilst it was doing that, played some Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Man, games were harder in those days - I had so much more patience.

I on the other hand found the opposite, as i played trough Mega Man 1 in the Legacy Collection in under two hours. Wish i could try my hand in Battletoads today

Tonight I did a bit of this (inbetween the game freezing/crashing/looping/things getting stuck. **** me but Feros is buggy).

Spoiler

1) Didn't have enough paragon points to not shoot Jeong, which surprised me. I normally have enough renegade by this point. Hmm.

2) I love the creepy way Shep walks up to Kaiden, always makes me laugh.

3) Really hate the one shot sniper kills that seem to occurr a lot. Probably because I am an Adept, but it gets really annoying.

4) The game is really short if you ignore all the side content isn't it. You could probabaly wrap it up in 6 or 7 hours - it's a bit like DA:I in that regard, but with more ineteretsing side content.

5) Also, number of screenshots is increasing. I knew it would :P

I think it takes 10 Intimidate to persuade Jeong, but all 12 in Charm. So if I want to persuade him with Charm*, I complete Feros last (4 free points plus 8 other points invested).

* Sometimes I just want to shoot him.

I'm just going to give a quick summary of Marcus' adventures in the latter part of ME1. I've already started ME2 and I still haven't posted anything about Noveria or Ilos. So, here's a quick run down.

Noveria:

-To avoid wasting to much time, Marcus just convinced Anoleis to give him a pass so he and his squad could reach peak 15 by giving Anoleis evidence that Opold was trying to smuggle an illegal weapon mod into Port Hanshan.

-Marcus didn't immediately head down to the hot labs per Ventralis' suggestion because it sounded like a trap. So, he explored Rift Station and found a back way into a Secure Lab where he found Benezia.

-I was very surprised to see the Rachni Queen survive this playthrough. Marcus was still dealing with some survivor's guilt over Ashley's death, and he faltered in his initial decision to kill the Queen. The Rachni were a major threat when the Salarians initially encountered them and almost overwhelmed the galaxy during the Rachni Wars. The safest decision would have been to kill her. But the queen did a good job in explaining her case, and Marcus' comprimised mental state didn't help matters. Besides, there was a chance that she could be a potential and useful ally should Saren succeed in his plan to activate the relay at the Citadel that would allow the Reapers to invade in force, or if they found another way into the Galaxy later on. Still, he kicked himself heavily after the mission in his private quarters, despite Liara's assurances that he would not regret the decision. He was more pissed off at the fact that he still allowed his personal issues to affect his decision making. So, he focused on his anger instead of his grief, and would use it when he went to Ilos to deal with Saren once and for all.

Ilos and Citadel:

-Took Garrus and Kaidan with him on this mission.

-Mowed through the Geth defenses quickly on his way to the Conduit.

-Once he reached the Citadel and found Saren, he didn't even bother trying to reason with Saren, and killed him in short order.

-When Joker contacted him and told him that he had entire 5th fleet in tow, Marcus ordered them to concentrate on Soveriegn and sacrificed the Council. He couldn't risk allowing Sovereign succeed in its attempts to take control of the Citadel and activate the Relay that would allow the rest of the Reapers to invade the Milky Way.

-Udina called a meeting with Shepard and Anderson not too long after the 5th fleet destroyed Sovereign. The purpose of the meeting was to determine what the Alliance's next move should be. Udina insisted that humanity take full adantage of this opportunity and take full control of the Council. Marcus wasn't too thrilled about the idea because he knew that the rest of the Galaxy wouldn't take kindly to the Alliance's takeover, and there would likely be increased turmoil because of it. But Udina already made up his mind, and Marcus declined to give his recommendation as to who should become the first human councilor.

Now, I know that this last decision will be forced on me in the beginning of ME2. I will decide via a coin toss.

It still really bugs me that we don't have "I didn't care either way" as an answer to Miranda's little quiz. If you picked, then say so; if you didn't, then have whoever becomes Councilor depend on P/R scores or whether you saved or sacrificed the Council.

Tonight I rattled through ExoGeni and Bring Down the Sky. Level 50 with a few more bits of exploration, Noveria, Virmire and the Endgame to go.

Spoiler

That's the first time I haven't fought Balak. Interesting.
