Captain Anderson, Ashley, Kaidan and I went to see Ambassador Udina, and then the Council. On our way we overheard two turians argue with each other, both C-Sec, as we learned. One of the guys left, and the one who stayed, Garrus, told us he already investigates Saren. We'll see what we can do though.

Unfortunately, the Council remained unconvinced, with only my vision and one eye witness there wasn't much we could do to prove Saren's guilt.

On our way back Ashley discovered a salarian crouching next to one of the Keepers. We checked him out and in the end I helped him scan the Keepers, while also patching things up between him and his partner.

My search led us around the Citadel Presidium and the Wards, I met Conrad Verner, a fan, got rid of a rogue AI, talked to a reporter called Emily Wong, and eventually to the Consort Sha'ira. Someone told us about her earlier and I was curious what all the fuss was about. Well, turned out she is damn beautiful. She had a special request for me, to go and find a friend and client of hers. Seems things aren't that good between them.

We then went to Chora's Den in order to find someone called Harkin, as he could help us with finding Garrus according to Udina. When we approached Chora's Den, we were attacked by two assassins, and Kaidan immediately thought of Saren.

We found both Sha'ira's friend General Septimus and Harkin. I was able to help with Septimus and I got Garrus's location out of Harkin as well, that went pretty smooth.

We made our way back to the consort and she was thankful for what I did. She had some nice words for me, and I had... a little sexy time with her. Won't say no to that. Afterwards we made our way to the clinic, let's see what this Garrus can offer us.

Some pictures of the chick magnet today ;) I guess it's true, hehe.

Spoiler

Saren's assassin's were damn tough, died 4 times before Kaidan's Throw somehow did something for once :D Then it was over very quick, haha. My second death was so annoying though. I almost had the remaining bastard, when he somehow shot me even though I was in cover. Not very nice.

^ If pull was in ME1 it would be much easier. They would just fall down the massive hole in the floor.

Well, we have Lift which could work quite well, too, but the level is too low, or at least it was for me. Not sure if it's actually possible to get Lift before confronting them? :)

SWTOR not working for me today :(

I pick up where I left on Mass Effect, went to Grissom system and killed some Geth. Give Tali her pilgrimage gift. Talking about mercenary life and fixing the Krogan with Wrex. Getting annoyed by Garrus again. Ashley talking about how entitled she is over what happened to her grandfather. Kaidan talking about the turian he killed as a teenager. And I haven't talk to Liara yet...

So I went to Feros, killed a bunch of Geth. Still using Kaidan-combo for companions and frankly, Kaidan is a monster on high difficulty. I pair him up with a shotgun and Wrex... and I watch them blow annoying-as-hell-now-even-harder-to-die Thorian Creepers to hell. Now if he would stop sending regen mobs into very tight places.

Spoiler

I kinda want to scale down the difficulty from Insanity. It was hard to use a gun/sniper rifle only combo. Guns became less effective (I put two scram rail X and Tungsten ammo and nope... still not working) and sniper rifle is so freaking hard to use when it hardly do damage (but the exploding ammo thing still works...) and it overheats quick and no sniper-dilation means a lot of misses when ubermobs notice I'm aiming at them. And I love heat sinks!

Btw, Jeong said "I know what really happened on Akuze." Never give it a thought before but does this mean Jeong actually knew that Akuze was a Cerberus setup. Which is eerie since I haven't done the Corporal Toombs mission yet.

When we entered the clinic, we saw the Doctor being threatened by some guys and then taken hostage by one of them. Garrus was there too and used the element of surprise caused by our entrance to shoot the one holding her. We helped take down the rest of the thugs, and Dr. Michel told us about a quarian, and that she went to see a guy called Fist. And she remembered the quarian had information on the geth. Sounds useful.

Garrus wanted to join our cause and I welcomed him into the team, and then Ashley, Kaidan and I went to see this Fist, taking out his goons in Chora's Den along the way.

When we got to Fist I pressured him into telling us he set up the quarian, told her she'd meet some dubious dude called Shadow Broker when in reality Saren's guys waited for her... so we immediately left to go find and help her. Just hope I never see you again, Fist.

We managed to get to the quarian in time, and then together with Anderson and Udina we listened to her evidence in the ambassador's office. Saren... Gotcha.

With this we can finally prove that he's a treacherous bastard. Ashley asked what would happen with the quarian, and Tali, having introduced herself earlier, responded she has a name. I feel a bit hostility between them. Now now, girls, play nice? In the end Tali joined us too. The more the merrier, huh?

With Tali's evidence the Council had no choice but to believe us this time, and they did. The turian Councilor wanted to know more about the Reapers, but any claim we made that the geth want to bring them back was dismissed. They don't believe my vision.

Well, can't really blame them, this is some crazy stuff...

But there was still one more upside to this whole thing. I was now granted what I need to pursue Saren my way. I was made a Spectre.

I'm gonna check out the Citadel a bit more, see what else there is to discover. At least until we have a lead on Saren.

No deaths today (just Kaidan went down once, hehe) :)

Shepard the poet. Nice.

I don't think I have ever not encouraged Garrus for taking the shot. That's what you're supposed to do.

My current Shep's not too big on words, or sophisticated, for that matter (neither am I, but that's another thing) ;) He's a street kid...

I said it was a nice shot. But not because it's what I'm supposed to do, but because it fit my current Shepard :P

Kaidan + Liara are pretty much my go-to squad for any new Shepard in ME1. Liara because Lift and Singularity, and Kaidan because Lift and Neural Shock. Two throws are not too bad but not all that great. Plus Kaidan can unlock everything if Shepard cannot.

Jeong is just referring to the fact that you survived on Akuze. He always says "I read about you in the Alliance database" and then references your background.

"I know what happened on Akuze."

"I know what happened on Torfan."

"I know what happened on Elysium."

or something to that effect.

Basically, he knows that you are a badass N7 marine who can survive and/or kill your way out of a tough situation.

Liara is just as fragile as Tali and normally I pair Kaidan with a tank partner; Ashley and Wrex. Sure her biotics amped up a bit but she still have her limitations and since I usually let the squad AI do their thing, Liara like to randomly send everyone flying just when I was aiming to shoot and I notice biotics didn't deal too much damage on insanity. Heck... everything is like tough meat...

I get that he would freak out with Torfan-Shep more tho.

Today consisted of replaying Priority: Tuchanka loooads of times, but I think I got most of Vega's dialogue, yay! (The bomb mission dialogue did not work out for me yet :crying: So it's on hold for now <_<)

It's amazing how much hidden dialogue there is when you wait around a bit. Plus 2 nice triggers when you approach the Reaper in front of the Shroud to tell you you're going the wrong way

Going through his dialogue on Tuchanka again reminded me of my idea that I have to piece together a James Vega Sh*t Collection when I'm done. He says it more than 5 times in this mission alone, love that man :P

Oh, and I delayed his talk until after this mission and got a nice little video of it, so funny how he's all pissed at Shep, poor guy...

Spoiler

I also finished up the next piece of my FemShep and Vega post-ending stuff, as always, when interested click here:

Spoiler

And now going for some side missions on the Citadel in ME1. Day well spent ;)

James Vega: made an N7 only because Shepard is an N7 just like Ashley is a Lieutenant Commander just because Shepard is. I find it interesting that they matched her rank with Shepard and had Kaidan pass him. Especially considering she is still a Chief, and therefore an NCO, in ME2 so she not only gets commissioned as an Officer but climbs multiple ranks in a few months. I think Kaidan is still a Lieutenant in ME2 also, so he takes a smaller, yet stlll amazing leap. Oh and let's not forget the VS being a Spectre just because Shepard was. So much for "I know who I am. I'm an Alliance soldier." These all bothered me. They all felt forced.

Tonight, Emma Shep finally got around to answer the call from Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez:

Spoiler

  • The first fight with the Collectors, and it is a bit of a disappointment. The basic ones are just reskinned mooks; however the Scions and Praetorians are good foes (especially the Scions). Harbinger is a rubbish character
  • This is another mission where they should have cranked up the creepy for longer. Having a fight straight off the bat was a mistake, much better to explore the colony first before getting ambushed
  • The combat was not as long as I remembered and was a bit varied, although still just a  giant room with the ability to funnel people
  • The Adept is really nerfed from ME1 and in comparison to ME3. I end up using the pistol a lot more than I really should be as a Not! Space Wizard
  • The conversation with Kaidan is really poor. Not a single explanation is given to Kaidan about where you have been, how you are or even the ability to say 'Hey! Good to see you!'. In fact you can't even get him to send a message back to the Alliance or anything. Railroading of a conversation at its poorest
  • These missions really do feel like an afterthought of the story, something to get out of the way before doing the more interesting vignettes in different places. A game based around Shep being a SPECTRE exploring the galaxy, discovering minor crimes whilst investigating a larger conspiracy would have been brilliant series of games - ME2 feels a little like that (like certain parts of ME1 do too). On reflection, THAT is the game I would want
  • The lighting is really good in this level, and some of the music

Well, while sure lots of coincidences, I really love the N7 conversation between James and Shepard, it's one of my favourite scenes in the game. And then again he is not yet N7 ;)

As for Spectre Kaidan and Ash, yeah, that was a bit surprising for me too at first, and I don't care too much about it. It was done so they could have the confrontation between them and Shepard, I assume. I also had the idea that maybe Udina wants someone like them on their side. He knows they're a loyal bunch. Maybe he had some things in mind about this.

Oh, and btw, Kaidan is Staff Commander in ME2 already.

Yeah, the conversation is alright but the whole circumstance bothered me. If it was just one thing, I'd have been ok with it but to have the crew "be Shepard" or follow his footsteps or whatever so many times bothered me. The Spectre thing at least made sense because Udina wanted to get someone in Shepard's old crew on his side. I saw it more as a way of influencing Shepard.

It bothers me because I have no idea what these people did to achieve their great leaps in their career. Ashley and Kaidan were at least along for the ride with Shepard in ME1. James sounds like a small child in the back seat when you first leave Earth. My main thought of him is this.

Now that you mention it, Lilith did call Kaidan "Commander".

Forced, maybe. But it is essentially the military equivalent of political advancement... except the Spectre appointment which is flat-out a political appointment by Udina because of pure political bullcrap. Which is actually totally in character.

The only problem I have with it is they are the same rank from ME1 to ME2 (two years), then suddenly advance from ME2 to ME3 (about six months to a year). If Ashley/Kaidan had advanced in rank by the time you meet them in ME2 it would not seem as forced.

Biotics -- and by extension the Adept -- did take a bit of a hit between ME1 and ME2; but then so did everything else. ME2 biotics and the Adept just seem to get the brunt of complaints when people talk about the combat system.

I think you actually end up using weapons a lot less in ME2 as the Adept compared to the ME1 Adept. Biotics can actually damage and kill enemies in ME2, compared to ME1 where you actually had to shoot everything to kill them.

Personally i think too many players try to put Fantasy RPG archetypes onto the Mass Effect classes (Soldier is warrior, Adept is wizard) then get disappointed when they do not play like they think they should.

Pretty sure they both get promoted between ME1 and ME2. I just played through meeting Anderson on the Citadel and asked about, "Staff Lieutenant Alenko." Anderson replied with, "Staff Commander Alenko." Not sure what Ashley's rank is.

I know that is true for me. My experience in ME1 is that weapons are almost the only way to kill bad guys unless you can throw them off the battlefield. In ME2, OTOH, not only can I throw people off the battlefield, but Warp Explosions can do a LOT of damage. I find I use my weapon much, much less in ME2 than ME1.
