More from the archives of Sarah Shepard, Puppet Master Engineer.
Citadel: Sarah Shepard, on orders from Admiral Hackett, docked the Normandy for maintenance. Taking advantage of the required shore leave, she visited Captain Anderson's apartment. Anderson called and then gave her the apartment, saying he didn't want it. Joker then sent her message inviting her to lunch. Knowing Joker, she would end up paying. Hopefully it was fast food and not a fancy expensive restaurant.
It was a fancy expensive restaurant. G--d--n it Joker.
Lunch was cut short when a merc squad attacked, looking for her. She was tired and hungry and her omni tool was on the fritz, so she was not at her peak, but she was still in control. A little smile, a little nod, and merc after merc felt decided it was best to fight for her instead of against her. Occasionally one of the more intelligent mercs spawned a drone, but the drone's Identify Friend or Foe protocol was quickly hacked. Sarah took her time, methodically eliminating the opposition until she made it to a skycar lot.
More mercs dropped by in a Cerberus shuttle, but her old friend Wrex jumped in to help out. Joker made himself useful and managed to pick them up in a shuttle before bugging out back to the apartment.
The Casino: Liara tracked one of the merc's weapons to an arms dealer named Khan. The arms dealer also owned a casino. So Sarah and her boyfriend Kaidan went to the casino to talk to Khan, but someone had beat them to it and killed Khan. Someone called Khan and recognized Shepard. The mystery caller revealed himself as the person who was trying to kill Shepard. Sarah grabbed Khan's computer.
The Citadel Archives: Using the computer, they tracked the merc's purchases and were alerted when the mercs locked down the Citadel Archives. The entire squad went to the archives where they came face-to-face with the mystery caller: Shepard's clone. They chased the clone through the archives. The clone threw mercs at Shepard, but more mercs only meant more squadmates as Shepard convinced many of them to join their cause. But it was all a ruse, as the clone managed to lead her into a trap, sealing her inside a vault, but Shepard quickly escaped and chased after the clone.
The Normandy: The clone was trying to use the Normandy, so Shepard, Tali, and Garrus went to head them off. They landed as close as they could to the Normandy and then ran to it on foot. More mercs tried to stop them, but none of them could resist her charms... or her bullets. They eventually made it to the Normandy before it took off, and Specialist Traynor helped her board.
After a brief skirmish in the CIC, Shepard took the elevator down to the cargo hold to confront the clone. The clone was able to resist Shepard's attempts at control, but the clone's minions were much more amenable to suggestion. The clone put up a valiant fight, but was eventually overwhelmed by the assault. Shepard offered to let the clone live, but the clone chose suicide instead.

Vanguard may be the toughest clone to fight, but the Engineer clone can be an absolute pain as well. I died a lot before i finally beat it. It felt good.
I also just went searching for my first post in this topic and found it on page 323, written March 23rd. I wonder how many playthroughs themikefest completed since then. I managed to get from the first third of ME1 to the last third of ME2.
I have no idea how many I've completed since that time. And I have no idea how many more I will complete before Andromeda is released
went to Horizon
Miranda, Jack and Zaeed are loyal. Better be with all the crap I had to go through.
RedCaesar97 is being too polite and humble. I practically begged him through private messages to resurrect Sarah Shepard. He was extremely kind to attend to my request, for which he has my gratitude.
By the way, if anyone here wants to see amusing runs of the combat sections of ME2 and ME3, look no further than his channel. All of his builds are interesting and worth checking out, but theres one in particular that I think that totally takes the cake and steals the show. His Sarah Shepard (aka as the Puppet-Master Engineer) is the wildest built I´ve ever seen. A close range-engineer who seems to think that shes a vanguard of sorts. Totally insane character that amazingly works over the games at the hardest difficult setting. The enemy lines simply crumble between drone attacks, enemies turning on their allies, freezing blasts and shotgun shattering frozen enemies. She trolls the enemies all the while getting very close to them on many occasions and shattering them as if she was Mortal Kombat´s Sub-Zero. Its an entirely unorthodox approach to this class - standard procedure with the engineer is to debuff enemies from a safe distance and then finish them off carefully without exposing yourself too much and also do not bring shotguns because they tend to make powers recharge slowly - but that he not only made usable but also played it in a very effective and amusing way.
I haven't seen the new footage yet (comprising of Omega and Citadel DLC sections), but Im looking forward to it. Based on the previous videos, I doubt they will be anything less than epic.
Being without a desktop and unable to play games for over 2 months had a few positive impacts on my life: I´ve read lots of books. I was able to devote more time to a healthier lifestyle. And, while searching for videos of other people playing I was able to be mesmerized by Sarah Shepards play-style.
I think I'm actually starting to like shotguns.

After unlocking its gates, Reyes and her team entered the Atlas station where Archer’s VI experiment had taken place. His audio logs where scattered all across the facility and slowly revealed that he had lied about certain details of what exactly went down there. The Illusive Man had been about to shut the whole experiment down, so Archer saw his brother’s autism that enabled him to communicate with the geth as his last option. He told himself that there was no other choice and that his brother would probably find it fun to be connected to the VI. It was apparent that David hadn’t actually volunteered for anything that his brother put him through. Even more so after Reyes was… maybe infected by the rogue VI and separated from her team. She started seeing David’s memories of the first experiments he took part in and his voice kept begging her to “make it stop”, over and over again. The constant noise gave her a severe headache, but she kept pressing on until she finally reached the central chamber where she stopped the VI from uploading itself onto the Normandy, only to reveal the gruesome sight of David, plucked into a machine, downright impaled by all the tubes and wires he was connected to.
It was hard to imagine that someone would do something like that to his own brother, but then again, this was another one of Cerberus’ experiments. She shouldn’t have expected anything else from Gavin Archer and she certainly didn’t hold back when she confronted him about his methods. The headache and David’s sight had her patience wearing thin as Archer went on about having to make tough decisions because others weren’t willing to take the responsibility, about saving people in the long run. As if gaining control over the Geth like this and giving such power into the hands of Cerberus was anything worth achieving. Reyes slapped her gun in Archer’s face and told him that she would take David to Grissom Academy, where he would be safe from him and Cerberus. She didn’t care about what the Illusive Man or Archer had to say about this and there wasn’t much time to ponder anyway. She had to get David out of that place, while simultaneously keeping Jack from ripping Gavin Archer’s limbs off after she found out that Cerberus had found yet another excuse to torture someone in order to achieve their full potential. She was glad she had brought Tali along instead of Miranda after finding out about the Geth, so she had some welcome support in restraining Jack. They somehow managed to get everyone off Aite alive, and after the Archer brothers’ transport was taken care of, Reyes needed some time to breathe and get rid of the headache that had only gotten worse due to Jack’s clamor.
Jack kept a foul mood the following days, but to Reyes’ surprise she actually showed up on the command deck one day and demanded some information about Grissom Academy. The place had been mentioned in one of the audio logs on Pragia and although Shepard had assured her back then that it was an Alliance facility, Jack apparently couldn’t shake off the thought that Cerberus would somehow get their hands on the students there, if they hadn’t already. She could obviously relate to what David had gone through and although he didn’t seem quite as valuable to Cerberus as Jack, they both knew the lengths that Cerberus had gone through to retrieve some of their “subjects”. Reyes eventually promised to contact a few people within the alliance about preventing Cerberus involvement at Grissom. Jack didn’t exactly seem satisfied, but at least somewhat less agitated over the matter, and Reyes took it as a good sign that she thought about protecting others for once instead of focusing on her rage-induced revenge-fantasies about Cerberus.
The Normandy crew continued their mission and wiped out the Blue Suns Mercs that had taken over the MSV Strontium Mule, before heading for Omega where Samara’s daughter Morinth was hiding. Reyes had a short conversation with Mordin about the collector’s current state and how excessive cloning and synthetic implants had changed them and led to complete cultural stagnation. Culture and art seemed important to him and he didn’t hesitate to reveal that he had taken part in a few musical plays before. He even gave a short taste of his abilities as a singer that left Reyes smiling and somewhat amazed by all the small things she had not yet discovered about her crew. She also talked to Jacob about his career and him joining Cerberus before arriving on Omega.
Reyes entered the station along with Samara and Garrus. Aria directed them towards a residential area, where Morinth had apparently found her last victim: a young woman called Nef. She had been exactly Morinth’s type, a introverted, but very creative person. Reyes couldn’t give her mother much comfort, but she promised to find Nef’s murderer and got access to her room where she went through Nef’s diary in order to find Morinth’s location. That Nef was asking herself if she was a freak for falling in love with an Asari felt weirdly similar to Reyes’ own situation with Garrus and had her remember the time when she was young herself and out partying and taking drugs to forget how miserable and empty her life was after the attack on Mindoir. She probably would have been easy prey for Morinth back then. They found out that Morinth had met her victim in the VIP section of the Afterlife and decided that Reyes would have to walk in there unarmed and try to lure her out. She didn’t feel too comfortable with the “unarmed” part and Garrus had some reservations as well, but there weren’t any alternatives. Samara expected Morinth to eventually fall for Shepard’s courage and determination, painting her as an “artist on the battlefield”.
She turned out to be right. After showing some moves on the dancefloor and beating up three turians, Morinth eventually approached Reyes and they had a short conversation about art, drugs and their travels to the dangerous places of the galaxy, before Morinth invited her over to her apartment. Reyes tried to keep the upper hand, but when Morinth got closer to her and started whispering in her ear, she couldn’t resist the Ardat Yakshi’s influence any longer. She wanted to die for her and warn her about Samara, but the justicar appeared just in time to save Reyes and kill her daughter. Samara seemed calm and focused afterwards, but Reyes felt dizzy and ashamed for falling for Morinth in the end, although she knew what an Ardat Yakshi was capable of. The sexual tension and the connection that she had felt between her and Morinth was still lingering, even after her death.
When they met up with Garrus and returned to the Normandy, she kept to herself and didn’t say much. Samara was thinking about returning to Omega once they had dealt with the collectors, to protect the people there. Garrus considered her a worthy person to continue Archangel’s legacy, so to speak, and Reyes was rather glad that they had found something in common that they could discuss without her input.

Reyes was one sexy beast in that VIP section, I really like her looks - at least in those scenes where it's possible for a non-modded Shepard to look any good. I would've liked to give her more prominent cheekbones though, but those always look way too sharp in this game. I'll also try to give her a slightly wider jaw in ME3 and probably a different hairstyle, just to see if I get it to work this time. And... I'm actually getting closer to playing ME3 again. For the first time since 2012. Wow, that ending really kept me away for over 3 years. ![]()

lets head to Earth.
Nothing too exciting, drove around in the hammerhead, met Patriarch, and fought some YMIR mechs in order to save a bunch of crates.
After meeting and chatting with the new crew, Joker, and surprisingly Dr. Chakwas, we headed for the Citadel in order to talk to the Council and Anderson. I hope we can get the help we'd need for this kind of mission. When arriving at the Citadel, I recruited the first addition to our team, the thief Kasumi Goto. What I see from her face looks really nice. Looking forward to talk to her later. C-Sec captain Bailey helped me to get back amongst the living folk, and then we headed for the Presidium. I made my plea to the Council, but they dismissed the Reapers as well as the Collectors. Figures. The Illusive Man was right about them. At least they offered me the Spectre status again.
Anderson also won't do much, might as well give up trying and look for help elsewhere. Oh, I learned that Ash is on a top secret mission. I do actually miss her, especially during the nights. Well, someone put her picture in my cabin on the Normandy. I guess to make me feel "home". Maybe it was Kelly. It's irritating me a bit though, it's nothing too serious between Ash and me, at least I think so. We never really spoke about it, but no doubt it was a very... physical time we spent together.
Anyway... As per the Illusive Man's suggestion, we headed for Omega next to find Dr. Solus. Right away we ran into our next recruit for the mission, Zaeed. Old mercenary dude, loads of scars, has probably seen a thing or two in his life.
Then I had to meet with the queen of Omega, Aria. Cocky, powerful, sexy. I asked a couple of questions, checked out Omega a bit and then went to find this Mordin guy with Miranda and Jacob. There were a lot of dead aliens due to the plague around here, and some enemies to fight. We eventually made it to the clinic, but the doc wouldn't come with us yet. In return to getting him on-board I offered to disperse the cure he had finished so we both can get what we want. We also found his assistant Daniel along the way and sent him back to the clinic. After some more trouble with vorcha and krogan we dispersed the cure and returned to Mordin. With this out of the way, we can return to the Normandy.
Picture time:
For the first half during the Mordin mission, I forgot to put Miranda's Warp on the hot key and happily used Overload the whole time on Armor layers without even noticing. Geez.
The second part during the fan section got me into ammo troubles for Pistol and the Sniper Rifle
But... I believe it will get better soon. I hope. The rest was more or less fine and unbelievably so, I didn't die today, haha. Last time this mission was the first big hurdle for my Adept during the fan section, so much that I rage-quitted
At least that didn't happen so far.
Oh, and today on Omega I heard a reference to Kaidan's death ![]()
As for weapons: Loved trying out the Sniper Rifle, and I really liked the Carnifex. At first I was worried because it has only 24 shots, but it does some good damage, or at least I had the impression when playing. I'm not sure if I'll keep it, 24 shots is really not that much, but on the other hand I have more weapons to choose from anyway ![]()
I played some multiplayer today. extracted on two of three matches. Played around a bit with some kits and weapons I have not used in a long time. I did okay I guess.
Played some Vanguard in ME1. I am recreating my original Adept but as a Vanguard with Singularity. I want to play a three-playthrough run so I can max Charm without spending points into it. I am about the midway point through Eden Prime. I may delete it.
I have been editing a bunch of videos to post to YouTube. My Internet crapped out before one of them could finish uploading; well, twice actually.
Still deciding what I want to do next in the Mass Effect universe if I do not finish continue my Vanguard playthrough. I have some ideas, but I have to decide which classes I want to bring through ME1 first.
This post is just me complaining about my stupid Internet connection and YouTube. Feel free to skip this post.
I am well aware that my Internet connection is not all that great. What really annoys me is that my Internet connection craps out the most when uploading content to YouTube.
A lot of times, after finishing an upload to YouTube, my Internet connection drops and I have to close all browser windows and wait about 5-8 minutes before it resets itself. Or worse, it will crap out during an upload.
Most of the time, I will start an upload before heading to bed or heading out for the day. It is really annoying to come back to my computer after several hours and realizing my Internet connection stopped working; extra frustrating if the upload did not complete. (I do not have a big problem if the upload completes but stops working before the video processing has started; processing can complete on its own and that is all on YouTube's side.)
This mostly seems to happen with large uploads, typically videos around 10 to 15 minutes or longer.
All of this post to rant and complain that I have now attempted to upload the same 15+ minute video twice only to have my Internet connection stop working at 90% complete. Sorry for wasting your time.
Vancouver. What a great city
the little boy playing with his toy fighter
its the muscle guy. I would never of recruited him in the Alliance with that tattoo on his neck. His dogtags need to be under his shirt. He's not wearing his BDU top. He's out of uniform. I would give the guy an article 15
Anderson touched my stomach saying I'm soft on the sides. I should punch him in the gut to see how soft he is
he wants me help find a way to stop the reapers. I'll do what he said to me when I was after the collectors. Its up to you to stop the reapers Anderson. I want to go have a number 1 meal at the MacDonalds
something big is headed this way. Its the reapers. He's not sure. Is there a reason why I'm talking to this......whatever.
Ashley is a LT. Commander. I'm just a Shepard.
Did that guy just say that? How would I know what the situation is? Hmm. I should lie to the guy. Ok. The situation is everything is fine. I'm going to get something to eat.
well that settles it. The situation sucks. That guy is dead. The reapers are here. Run for your lives. Everyone run like those people down there in the silly looking animation
Got to get to the Normandy. You're right. I remember stashing some booze in the cargo hold. ok. New mission. Get to the Normandy to save my booze. The reapers are a secondary concern
What's with the kid? Anderson doesn't see him. ok. Its a figment of my imagination
Look at the uglies. I'm a biotic. Lets see how they like flying around. hahaha
The figment of my imagination was just blown up. Oh well.
Hackett. I don't want to talk with the scarred man. Lets go to Mars
The asari know as the Liara, found something that could wipeout the reapers. So why didn't you download the plans? Sorry. I keep forgetting. That would make sense. Lets fight the wannabe soldiers
Its TIM. I like this guy. Now he wants me out of the way. ok. I will call you TLM, The Looney Man
that woman isn't wearing a helmet while we chase her. Wait a minute. Her is an it. Its a robot.
Ashley is injured. That sucks. I was going to ask her if she wanted to join me for a meal at MacDonalds
Lets head to Citadel.
Ashley looks bad. Hmm. I wonder if she would wake up if I tickled her under the arm?
I talk with politicians. Politicians are the weeds of the galaxy
this Allers reporter wants to come on my ship. No way. I rather have Walter Cronkite on my ship

its a woman named Traynor. Traynor, Traynor. Hmmm. What can she train me for? hahaha. get it?
I walk around the ship. I didn't go in circles
I meet the crew. Steve is my shuttle pilot. Traynor is my comms Specialist. Why isn't she an officer? I will promote her after I get back from Palaven.

the asari politician won't join the summit. ok. asari gets no help from me. Lets see how they like it
I played some more ME1 Vanguard. Got as far as meeting the council for the first time, met with Harkin, and scanned some Keepers.
Not sure if I will continue it. I am still debating where I want to go from here.
Arrrghhhhh. Was just about to fire up ME2 then noticed one of the steam specials..
Dammit.
Arrrghhhhh. Was just about to fire up ME2 then noticed one of the steam specials..
Spoiler
Dammit.
They should make a sequel with her as the protagonist. That would be cool.
Ah bugger. Just found out it has a photo mode.
Bollocks. That's tripled the playthrough time then.
Did an N7 mission, then back on the Normandy while I was tinkering around on the Normandy my xbox 360 froze (which is one reason I think it would be really nice if the whole trilogy came to xbox one not just the first game). Turned off the 360, going to fire it up again tonight and try to get overlord in (will take pictures). But it will be after the sunday night game since my Cards are playing.
Didn't do much in ME2 today, buuut here we go.
Mordin's way of talking fascinates me big time, how can you talk so fast? I learned a bit more about him though, about his time with STG, that he knew Kirrahe, and he told me more about the genophage.
I'm really warming up to Miranda and Jacob as well, they seem like alright guys. I'm not sure about the Illusive Man, but I'm okay with the crew. Kelly is also a very nice girl, I told her that today.
I also brought the ingredients I had picked up to our cook and got a taste of his food in return. Not too shabby, I could get used to that.
Dr. Chakwas was very happy about the brandy I brought her, and she suggested we should open it. We had a really good time, remembering Kaidan and Jenkins, and toasting to the people close to us. Poor doc passed out at some point and I gotta admit even I felt it a bit, couldn't even walk straight. But that didn't keep me from a poker match with Ken and Gabby as a thanks for bringing the FBA couplings they wanted. Won 500 credits, heh. Nice.
I also checked up on how Zaeed and Kasumi were settling in.
Looking at the dossiers from the Illusive Man, I guess Archangel is up next. The other two look like... fun. A very powerful biotic criminal and another krogan. Ugh. After Virmire and Wrex I could do without another of these, but oh well. And I really wonder why the Illusive Man wants this criminal for our mission so badly. Jack. What if this person can't even hold back? Or tries to break free? Hm, got no answers for this now, but it couldn't hurt to be a bit more careful with this.
Did some scanning too in ME2 ![]()
I still don't know if I should put points into Heightened or Hardened AR, I need to decide soon, I have the points for it, aaaah. I think I tend towards Heightened, but I could try out both of course and see if I have less trouble with one ![]()
Other than that, I spent a little bit of time with Vega today and finished his dialogue for the Cerberus Fighter Base, I love missions like these. Rather simple and fast, no complicated variables with a lot of different dialogue variations, haha.

Generally, Heightened versus Hardened depends on what weapons you use, particularly the bonus weapon.
Hardened works with all weapons. Heightened generally works better with the Mantis and Widow sniper rifles, and most shotguns.
Adrenaline Rush adds +100% weapon damage, but slows down time by 50%, meaning your damage per second (DPS) for most weapons is the same under Adrenaline Rush as it is under normal (non-AR) gameplay. Heightened Adrenaline Rush adds +140$ weapon damage, but slows down time by 70%, so for 1/2 to 2/3 of the weapons you actually lose DPS when under Adrenaline Rush. This is why most players choose Hardened, plus the added bonus of -50% health damage. But the extra slowdown of Heightened is good for the Widow and pretty much required for the Mantis if you want to one-shot basic mooks on Insanity.
Here is a post about Hardened versus Heighted Adrenaline Rush.
(The full thread is here. That post begins near the bottom of page 3.)
The Mattock is probably also better under Heightened since you can still unload an entire clip under Heightened. This is why the Mattock is so freaking broken on the Soldier; +100% to +140% damage while reaching its maximum rate of fire. On the other classes with bonus Assault Rifle training, the Mattock is a good substitute for the Vindicator while not necessarily being better; on the Soldier it becomes the Finger Of God.
Another Hardened versus Heightened comparison.
Personally, I go Hardened most of the time. And by most of the time I mean half the time (Two Soldier Shepards with Hardened, Two Soldier Shepards with Heightened.)
; on the Soldier it becomes the Finger Of God.
I have been trying to convince Fraggle she should spend the 2 euro and get it (plus the Geth Plasma Shotgun). I even started up an ME2 Soldier just to show her how good it is. Maybe she will listen to you. ![]()
Well after watching a stressful football game in which the good guys won, I decided to relieve stress by playing ME 2 and doing some good old fashioned geth hunting. Sandra was investigating project overlord in which she discovered that good old cerberus was up to their unethical ways again this time by interfacing an autistic man with the geth in order to study how they could gain control over the geth. Well nothing can go wrong there. Of course the experiment went wrong and the VI/human hybrid slaughtered just about everyone at the facility. After fixing the mess Sandra was disgusted to find out that the autistic man's own brother had hooked him up to the geth in the first place. Well she did the only thing a sensible person could do and took him away and made arrangements for Grissom academy to take him in. Sandra wondered to herself if cerberus learned their lesson in trying to control things they couldn't understand and thought "probably not".
Interesting how much foreshadowing this DLC does when it comes what we see in ME 3.

Reading through the threads a bit, currently I might indeed be better off with Heightened? I used the Carnifex and Mantis during the second half of Mordin's recruitment mission and want to try these out a bit longer I think.
On the other hand the -50% health damage does sound good. In the end I might try out both, since I also don't really know yet which weapons I'll end up with, still trying out a lot currently anyway. But the first post you linked actually makes me think I should go with Heightened for now.

Oh, I am convinced about its power, it shows very nicely
But... surely the game can be beaten without it as well? ![]()
It's not that I won't consider buying it at all, just the question of... do I really need it?

I think Carnifex works better with Hardened since you can get more shots off. That being said, it may just be a matter of preference. I rarely use the Carnifex since I prefer the Predator. And I much prefer Hardened with the Vindicator instead of Heightened since I can get more shots off.
Under any Adrenaline Rush, you can one-shot basic enemies with the Widow. Heightened is just generally better for the Widow for the extra time dilation and the extra damage for more elite enemies.
Before you decide, make a save and then try both evolutions on a few missions and see which one you like better.
