I had an incredibly smooth run through Horizon today, the smoothest it has ever been for me in fact. The GPS worked wonders on the Collectors. It also helped that I could use a sniper rifle to kill the 2 Scions in the final courtyard without triggering the husk waves.

Well since the last time I posted Sandra has brought a live prothean out of stasis, rescued a bunch of biotic kids, and saved a krogan.

Did all this yesterday, but was too tired to write it up then (in fact I fell asleep before I could do so...) :P

I had my first talk with Jack aboard the Normandy, after Joker and Kelly both reinforced my impression that Jack could be trouble. So, playing more nice it is. Jack saw through me though, said I shouldn't try to be her buddy, that she's just here for business. She kills for me, I let her use these files. She plans revenge on Cerberus, seems to be excited about it.

But... there's also another side to her. I've seen it, Jack, you were grateful I let you look into these files. I heard it in your voice. I wonder what exactly Cerberus did to her that made her so pissed off about them. Research facility doesn't sound too good, had my fair share of those when I took out a few of them with the old Normandy gang... But I knew better than to ask her and kept my mouth shut for now.

She talked about taking the Normandy and living like a pirate. I made a friendly joke about her being my first mate then. Not sure she found it funny. Talked about handling executions instead. Oh well.

I left her to herself, but I'm a bit more optimistic about her now. She's... interesting. And at least she's not hostile towards me.

Afterwards Miranda, Jacob and I looked for a missing Cerberus operative. We found him dead, but I was able to send intel about Cerberus to the Alliance. I think it's safest in their hands.

Then it was time for a party. Well, that version of a party was a much wilder one than I thought. Hock knew something was going on and he tried to kill us (well, he/his goons managed to do so twice :D). Turned out a bit different than he expected in the end. And now Kasumi has her graybox back. Told her to keep it if she really wants to. Sorry about Keiji.

More pics!

Well technically this was yesterday, but...

Captain Anderson and Nihlus informed Bruno Shepard that they were to go pick up a Prothean Beacon from Eden Prime and bring it back to the Citadel for study. They also informed Shepard that he was being considered a Spectre candidate and that Nihlus would be evaluating his performance.

And then the mission got shot to hell before they even landed when a military unit on Eden Prime was attacked from an unknown source. So much for a simple delivery operation. It got even more complicated when they landed and Corporal Jenkins was almost immediately killed by a drone. And then Shepard and Kaidan saw robots sticking civilians on spikes. They later saw that these spikes turned the civilians into creepy husk creatures that were extremely hostile. Luckily they picked up some backup in Ashley Williams, the only survivor of the 212, the unit that was attacked earlier. She believed the robots were geth, a race of synthetics created some 300 years ago by the Quarians.

Shepard and his small squad saw the enemy ship take off, its affiliation unknown. Shepard then discovered Nihlus, dead by a bullet to the back of his head. A dock worker said another Turian named Saren had killed him. When they finally arrived to the Beacon's location, they discovered the geth had planted bombs around the site. Shepard dodged enemy fire and disabled the bombs, then killed the remaining hostiles. Shepard called the Normandy to secure the Beacon. The Beacon had been activated somehow, and Ashley got too close to the beacon where it began to pull her towards itself. Shepard managed to throw her away, but the beacon pulled him in instead, where it gave him a weird vision before it exploded, knocking him out.

So with Nihlus dead and the Beacon destroyed, Shepard's first mission as a potential Spectre had failed miserably. They traveled to the Citadel to report their findings. Ambassador Udina was extremely unpleased, but had managed to gain an audience with the Council. Unfortunately, the Council did not believe that Saren, another Spectre, had allied himself with the geth and attacked Eden Prime. It did not help that Saren was there (holographically, anyway) pleading his own case. It most certainly did not help that Anderson tried to bring Shepard's vision as evidence into the hearing; Shepard had told him it was a bad idea. The humans lost their case.

Bruno Shepard is now ready to continue the investigation on his own, in hopes of finding new evidence linking Saren with the geth. He has a few leads...

Bruno Shepard began his own investigation into proving Saren was a traitor... for like 1 second before getting completely sidetracked by everything else on the Citadel, like scanning keepers, and playing Quasar (thanks for the tools Schells! But now I have to give it to Dorian for justice).

But eventually, with nothing else to do, Bruno tacked down Garrus, shot up Chora's den, interrogated Fist before Wrex shotgunned him to death, then managed to go rescue a Quarian with evidence against Saren.

So now all that's left to do is go back to the Council and present the evidence.

Well over the past few days I rescued a Turian platoon that had been stranded on Tuchanka due to the incompetance of their commander, turns out that the commander was the Primarch's son.  It also turns out that their mission was to find and diffuse a bomb on Tuchanka that was originally Turian but fell into the hands of Cerberus.  After helping the platoon diffuse the bomb (at the cost of the Turian commander's life) Sandra had to keep peace between Wrex (who was understandably angry) and the Primarch.  Sandra then went to investigate the disapearance of Aralakh company.  Turns out that Aralakh company was lead by good old Grunt and they were investigating reports of rachni.   Turns out that the reapers had abducted the rachni queen and were turning her young into a reaper modified rachni army.  After freeing the queen most of Aralakh company was lost but Grunt managed to survive.

Frustrating thing about using the phone to take pics off the TV is that the quality will be hit or miss depending on lighting or the timing of taking a pic during a cutscene.

More from Reyes! It's amazing how I still have all these notes from about a week ago, but still don't really fall behind, because I don't get to play any Mass Effect. :?

On the way to Illium the Normandy followed a distress signal to a missile silo on the moon Franklin in the Skepsis system that had been taken over by batarian terrorists. Shepard and her team eliminated all of them, but could only prevent the destruction of one of the assigned targets. Reyes decided to save the residential area and most of the colonists’ lives, although that meant the destruction of the industrial area and the economical death of the colony.

They also took care of another group of Blue Suns on the planet Sanctum, before they arrived on Illium, where Reyes wanted to inform Liara about the new information Cerberus had uncovered about the Shadow Broker. Liara was intrigued by the help and discovered that her friend Feron, a drell that had helped her recover Shepard’s remains two years ago, was still alive and held captive by the Shadow Broker. She intended to make preparations and form a plan on how to free him, but needed some time to do so. She invited Reyes to come to her apartment some time later, so they could discuss their course of action.

To give her some time, Reyes decided to make further preparations for the upcoming jump through the Omega 4 relay. The Normandy’ shields had an upgrade waiting to be properly installed and calibrated and she wanted to make sure that their supplies and equipment were sufficient and on par with the best that Illium had to offer. She took along Garrus for his knowledge on all kinds of weaponry, while some of her other crewmembers took off on their own to make a few last preparations. Reyes’ Spectre status got her and Garrus access to the most distinguished wares Nos Astra had to offer, but they had to admit that most of what Cerberus had provided them with was on-par with the offers on Illium. Their tour through the city was mostly a professional one, but like always, Garrus couldn’t help cracking a joke here and there. Besides offering a few very interesting insights into some of the weapon systems on offer in Nos Astra that would have been illegal in Citadel space and that he had previously encountered in the Terminus. Reyes hadn’t planned to mention her doubts about their relationship either way, but simply being around him in a less tightly observed and claustrophobic setting than the Normandy, somewhat reconciled her with the idea.
Ever since she had opened up to him about her past and what had happened on Torfan, they resonated with each other in a way that she had never considered possible before… and on second thought, she couldn’t remember anyone that she had ever felt this connected to. Nonetheless, she immediately turned him down when he made a vague suggestion about visiting the Eternity together before getting down to business again. She still had her reservations about allowing herself this kind of sentimentality, when her mission should be her top priority under all circumstances. Not to mention that all this could still lead to nothing but an enormous embarrassment for her crew to scoff about.

Shepard and Garrus met up with Jack near Liara’s apartment. Whatever Jack had been up to in the meantime, she seemed to be as pissed as ever when they got on the elevator and made a very crude remark about Asari during the ride. They weren’t greeted by Liara when they reached her floor however. Instead, there was an entire police investigation waiting for them, accompanied by Tela Vasir, an Asari spectre who had been working with Liara and agreed to help find her before the assassin that had attacked her in her apartment. As Reyes expected, Liara had left a message as to where they would be able to find her. Together with Vasir, they headed for the Dracon Trade Center, just in time to witness three floors of the building blowing up in a gigantic explosion. The Shadow Broker’s agents apparently didn’t want to take any chances in eliminating Liara before she could find his lair. Shepard and Vasir split up and while Vasir took the sky car to search the upper floors, Reyes, Garrus and Jack entered the building through the main entrance. There were big casualties among the civilians outside and inside the trade center and the bodies inside clearly showed bullet wounds.

The agents that had been responsible for this were still present in the building and they had to fight through all of them before they finally reached the informant Liara had been trying to contact – only seconds after his death. Vasir took out the responsible agents and asked about Liara’s body. Obviously she had made that assumption a little too early, as Liara entered the room the moment after Vasir had finished her sentence and accused the Spectre of trying to kill her and murdering Sikart to get ahold of the disc with the information he had promised to Liara. She had seen her break into her apartment and Reyes had no reason not to believe her. It made perfect sense that Vasir would’ve pretended to want to help, so Shepard would lead her right to Liara’s position.
Instead of wasting time with any counter arguments, Vasir broke the window behind her and fired a storm of shards at them. Liara managed to fend them off with her own biotic abilities and Reyes was quick to dash straight after Vasir directly after the attack. She tackled her right before she could get away, leading them both to fall through the window and two floors deep into the foyer. Her biotics gave Vasir an advantage over the human spectre however – she slammed Reyes into the floor while landing on her feet like a cat herself. Vasir took to her heels, closely followed by Liara, who had no problem getting down to them with her own biotics. Garrus and Jack had to run for the stairs before they could check up on Reyes. The fall hit her pretty hard, but she had to shake off the pain when another group of the Shadow Broker’s mooks appeared and tried to block off their way.

Vasir fled in one of the skycars, right when the three of them left the trade center, but Liara wasn’t going to let her get away that easily. She jumped in one of the remaining vehicles, followed by Reyes and Garrus. There was no place left for Jack and Reyes made sure to order her not to follow them – she had attempted to fly the hammerhead before and having her take over a skycar in the middle of a populated city seemed like an extremely bad idea.

After a relentless pursuit through the skylanes of Nos Astra, they managed to ram Vasir hard enough to have her crash land on top of the Azure, a somewhat dubious hotel located in one of Nos Astra’s countless skyscrapers. They managed to catch up with Vasir, who had been injured during the crash and took one of the hotel’s employes hostage when she realized that there was no escape for her. The woman’s name was Marianna and she pleaded for her life, so she’d de able to return to her son. Vasir made a remark about how traumatizing it must be for a child to grow up without their parents – Reyes wasn’t sure whether the Asari was just trying to make her empathize or was alluding to Reyes’ own background, but it didn’t matter. She shot anyway and eventhough she also hit the hostage, Vasir let go of her and had no one left to hide behind.

Eventually she went down just like all of the Shadow Broker’s other people. In her last moments, she justified her actions with the Shadow Broker’s support that had allowed her to save countless lives over the last decades. She accused Shepard of being no better, now that she was working with Cerberus and with her last breath she told her not to dare judge her. Reyes didn’t know if she was truly any better than the Asari, not after some of the decisions she made in the past, but she believed Liara that the Shadow Broker was working for the Collectors and therefore had to be stopped. She also believed Vasir however, that Cerberus was no better than the Shadow. They may have provided her with everything she needed to continue her fight, but Cerberus had proven more than once that they were still the terrorists Reyes had gotten to know them as two years prior. After the collectors were defeated – and if she was still alive by then – she would take care of Cerberus.

Right then and there, there were more pressing matters however. Liara wanted to make use of the Normandy’s stealth systems to reach the Shadow Broker’s lair on the planet Hagalaz and Reyes agreed to bring this matter to an end as quickly as possible.

What I don't like about this Paragon/Renegade System is how it's kinda annoying to not even get certain options (like it happened to me with Vasir) because you're not hardcore evil/ goody-two-shoes enough. At least your scars stay sexy when you're Renegon, I guess. :P

Bruno Shepard met with Anderson just in time to witness Udina presenting the new evidence proving Saren is a traitor. And as fortune would have it, they made Shepard a Spectre. His first assignment: Take Saren down.

After finishing a few quests on the Citadel (now that he had enough Charm to get the most desirable outcomes for maximum Paragon points), he went back to the Normandy where Udina and Anderson gave him control of the ship. After giving a motivational speech to the crew, they flew off to the Artemus Tau cluster. But first things first: find Admiral Kohoku's men. He found them, along with a Thresher Maw. He killed the Thresher Maw.

Then he landed on Therum at some Prothean ruins to locate a Dr. Liara T'soni. A bunch of geth dropped in to stop him for some odd reason, so he destroyed them all. When he finally found Liara, she was trapped in some Prothean security device. After freeing her, some Krogan showed up with a bunch more geth. Apparently Saren wanted Liara himself. After a brief skirmish, he killed the remaining geth, then the Krogan, then everyone hightailed it out of the ruins since it was built on an active volcano that was beginning to erupt.

After debriefing everyone, Bruno talked to the council. The Turian councilor was not pleased that the Prothean ruins were destroyed. Bruno gets the feeling that the Turian councilor is never pleased.

After having rescued Liara, Bruno Shepard traveled to a new system where he found a ship adrift in space. Turns out some dude was clinically brain dead but still on life support, and his crazy biotic girlfriend wanted to find a cure that did not exist. She was extremely depressed and paranoid and killed the crew when they wanted to take the guy off life support. Bruno killed her when she tried to kill him.

Next, Bruno landed on a planet to investigate a distress call which turned out to be a geth trap. He killed all the geth.

Hacket then called the Normandy asking Bruno to deal with a Virtual Intelligence (VI) on Earth's moon, Luna, that had gone beserk and killed a bunch of Alliance marines. Tired of being 'just' an Engineer, he landed on Luna, took out the defense drones and shot out the conduits. Then he became a medic (although he still does not have Medicine unlocked; In due time...).

Right now, Bruno Shepard is on a moon, having just talked Major Kyle into standing down and disbanding his biotic cult.

I am at the 'fun' part right now where I am completely ignoring the main story missions while I grind my way through all the available secondary missions.

Those UNC missions which had you boarding seemingly abandoned ships were some of the most scariest in the game, the Rachni one made me **** myself. Mass Effect 1 had some really disturbing side missions.

I talked to Jack again. I found out she's done quite a lot of things, gangs, a cult, destroying a space station, piracy, and loads of other sh*t. Crap, that is some serious stuff. And she doesn't regret. Well, good she's on our side at least.

I could relate to her cult time... Drugs and sex and going to a better place. Yeah, been there. A lot of times.

She said no one's ever asked her about all this stuff, and thanked me after using some foul language which got her some bonus points in my book. So, Jack, getting friendly with me after all, hm? Nice. And now I'm way too curious... I'll take her on the next mission, to see her in action.

We landed on the planet Zorya, to help Zaeed finish his mission to liberate a refinery.

We reached a bridge, and as I was talking to Zaeed about his past with this Vido dude, I couldn't help but glance over to Jack a few times, who stood behind Zaeed, looking pensively over the water below. Quite the view. She's kinda compelling. Challenging. Big mouth, just like Ash, and like her Jack has a mind of her own as well. Crazy and disturbing stories, sure, but... uh, what were you saying, Zaeed? Right, your rage. Okay, we'll get going. We proceeded over the bridge, met Vido and pursued him through the refinery.

I was facing the choice between to do what we came to, save the workers, or take our chance and go after Vido. Zaeed pressed me to get his revenge. Damnit! Okay, he's right. In the long run, the world is better off if we finish Vido right now.

We caught up with him eventually and Zaeed blew him up.

With this done it was time to look for this Warlord, Okeer. Jack, Miranda and I had to deal with Blue Suns again. And krogan. Apparently someone called Jedore wants a krogan army and Okeer is involved somehow. Sounds terrific...

We made our way to the lab and met Okeer. And his tank-bred perfect krogan. Only now Jedore wants Okeer dead to take over his research. She was starting to gas the area and we moved on to take her out. When we came back to Okeer, he was dead... only the tank remained. It's risky, but strength I could use right now, so I ordered the Normandy to pick us and the krogan package up. Miranda expressed her doubts, and I am with her, so we'll do this carefully.

Another death today. Stupid 2 Blue Suns that come around the corner without having cover for Shepard. I was able to strip both their shields, but Jack's Pull came too late ^_^ And I ALWAYS forget I could take a medi-gel, though I'm unsure if it would've helped in this situation, haha.

And I have a question, when the YMIR had only health left (full bar almost), it took one Pull (Field) from Jack to make it explode... is that normal?

Anyways, some pics!

Next up Horizon... ugh.

Not normal, but it may happen on occasion. Possible that it took a headshot or two from your squadmates for insane damage. Or it may have hit something in the environment or something that caused to the game to glitch it out and make it explode

Okay, let's see if I can actually remember what I did last night with Bruno Shepard...

So picking up where I left off having convinced Major Kyle to stand down, traveled the planet and took out some mercs and then a Thresher Maw. The Max killed me twice: once he crushed me when I got to close on foot (oops) and once he crushed me when I go too close in the Mako (not sure how that happened).

Then it was off to Ontarom where Hackett told Shepard about some scientists getting killed, and only a Dr. Wayne was left. This was an incredibly tough fight. I died several times before I finally made it to Toombs and Wayne... and then did not have enough charm to calmly defuse the situation. Going in, I had enough points to spend into charm so I reloaded my last save... which was before the long fight because I had forgotten to make a save after the fight. Grrrr. Anyway, I finally killed all the mercs and then charmed Toombs into standing down and taking Dr. Wayne into custody.

Luckily that is the last time Shepard will go to Ontarom. (Spoiler alert: he will totally go back to Ontarom in ME3.)

Next, Bruno Shepard took down two crime bosses. I died once on Mavignon because I parked the Mako in front of a defense turret and totally forgot about the health hazard. So after destroying the turrets, I was forced to either die of the cold or get in the Mako and hope the Mako had not been destroyed. The Mako had been destroyed.

Bruno Shepard then boarded a ship and killed a bunch of biotics before convincing the head terrorists to stand down and rescue Chairman Burns so he could give L2 biotics reparations. That was for your Kaidan! (Okay, not really.) I only got knocked down 2 or 3 times in a row.

And then it was off to find out what happened to a missing Exogeni survey team. Turns out they had all gotten turned into husks in some mine. Shepard killed them all.

I watched the vid: I am pretty sure your team killed it with their weapons. Remember that lifted targets take +100% weapon damage. Jack probably finished it off with a shotgun blast. Also, the YMIR did not have a full health bar when it was hit by the pull. It was already down to 1/3 health by that time.

Ah, maybe I should've clarified, the YMIR I meant was the one during the Jedore fight :) And from there the health drops from 3/4 to zero and it just dies. The same happened to a krogan who had full health before too, he was just gone, which confused me a lot. There's maybe a magical line where it takes enemy health right away, hahaha. Could be that it's the holes in the floor, I'm not sure.

Grrrrrr....

Bruno Shepard landed on a planet to go kill some slavers and rescue Nassana's sister. SNIPERS EVERYWHERE! After a long fight outside the slaver's compound, Bruno Shepard and his squad finally managed to make it inside, where they methodically killed the slavers inside, including an Asari. They did not find Nasana's sister alive, but did find a terminal indicating that the Asari slaver and Nasana where actually sisters! Bruno is going to have a little chat with Nasana later about her little deception.

* * *

This fight was absolutely brutal. Ignoring the fact that in my first attempt I landed without any medi-gel, this was freaking painful. Because Mass Effect 1 punishes you for killing inside the Mako (-50% XP) I have been conditioned to jump outside the Mako whenever possible and kill things. Because there are 5-6 snipers on this map, you either have to kill everything in the Mako or hope you have a really good defensive power. The Engineer does not have a good defensive power. Oh, and did I mention that there was a level 1 pressure hazard? That means you better have Devlon Industries armor or you will need to jump back in the Mako to get your health back. Of course jumping in a Mako that has no health or shields means instant death...

So my strategy was to let the Mako get hit with a bunch of sniper fire (taking out its shields down to half really quick), jump out quickly and kill a sniper in one of the four towers, then jump back in and go to the other tower and kill another sniper. Then I would try to position the Mako near the compound and use it for cover while I tried to kill the some of the individual mercs that were on foot. Took me about a half dozen tries, including one time where a sniper managed to snipe me from several hundred meters away at the little part of my body that was not in cover.

And then there was that one time where the game decided that Liara would be unavailable for some unknown reason. This meant I ended up dying inside the building and I had forgotten to save before I entered meaning I had to beat the whole outside yet again.

I am really beginning to regret taking the Enygineer instead of going Infiltrator. I miss Immunity; such a good power.

OK, I looked at the Jedore fight. I think the mech was supposed to fall through the hole in the floor in between the tanks even though it is obviously too large to fit. The graphics engine didn't have a way to render it going through the hole, but the enemy tracking engine registered it as dead. So they came to an understanding and decided to blow it up. ;)

Nice. I was going to suggest that it was over a hole but figured I was wrong because it would just drop.

Admiral Kahoku gave Bruno Shepard coordinates for an organization Cerberus, a former human Blacks Ops gone rogue. Shepard traveled to Binthu to deal with them. They had three bases on the planet. Inside, they were experimenting on creatures: in one base was a group of humanoid-looking things, and in the other two were bug-like creatures. Shepard had never seen them before (Bruno Shepard has not completed Feros or Noveria yet). In the last base they found Kohaku dead. Cerberus killed them. Shepard found a location for a fourth Cerberus base on another planet.

Shepard was ready to deal with Cerberus when Hackett asked him to locate 25-year-old probe that had just signaled the Alliance. Apparently it was booby-trapped with a nuclear warhead. How much more complicated could this get?

A lot more complicated apparently. First, someone had moved the probe into a mine. Second, that someone was named Haliat, the person responsible for attacking Elysium all those years ago. Haliat was pleased to see that he had captured Shepard, the person responsible for the heroic holding action on Elysium. Bruno Shepard, normally a nice and reserved individual, was less than pleased at hearing Haliat was responsible for The Blitz. He vowed to kill Haliat. Haliat merely laughed him off.

After quickly disabling the bomb, Shepard and his squad made it out of the mine and found they were overlooking Haliat and his men... and the Mako which Haliat apparently stole. That was the final insult. Shepard took sweet vengeance on Haliat for both The Blitz and his stolen vehicle.
