I wanted to do a Kaidan romance run but ended up getting ninja-manced in ME1 by Liara. Fortunately I had a Kaidan romance save (among my many) and imported that into ME2.
The odd thing for me is that most of my runs follow pretty much the same path, there might be a few minor changes, but on the whole I do pretty much the same thing each time.
Kind of like how I can read a book again and enjoy it as much as I did the first time. Heck I still shed a tear at the death of Druss the Legend.
Can't you start the romance with Kaidan and pick Kaidan? And how do you get ninja-manced by Liara? I know it can happen with Ashley, though I forget if there was an option to say "no" when she asks if I still want her after telling me about her family history. However, I remember Liara saying she thought I might be interested in her and ask about it, giving me the option to say "no".

Apparently (I haven't done it) the renegade response to her query about whether Shepard is interested in her is bugged and flags her romance as being active. If you then end up with the comm room confrontation and propose a threesome, Kaidan/Ashley will storm off and you end up with Liara. (I suppose that means Liara would be open to a threesome?) I have always picked the neutral response with her (something like "just friends") when I didn't want to romance her and haven't had any problems. It is Ashley and Kaidan that have caused me problems in the past, so I just make sure I am mean to them if I don't want to do a romance.

I knew that but do you have to propose a threesome or can you pick one or the other?

Thank you
Apparently Neva is from a Spanish origin. I looked for something with Ice, but didn't like the ones I found so much
So snowy is good too!

That threesome proposition was just fun! Ash storming off in disgust, and Liara thinking I picked her... I laughed. Of course I only tried out the dialogue in my current run to see what it's like (I don't wanna romance Liara for some time
) since I never saw it before. I checked the Kaidan version too on YT.
So far I luckily wasn't ninjamanced, even with my single MShep Engineer who waited for Kaidan in ME3. But there I was mean to Ash anyway. Can't remember what I did with Liara, but I'm fairly sure I was neutral to her.
Today I tried to ask an ex-Cerberus scientist a question about quantum physics, but he must have thought my question was really stupid because all he did was moan in response.
Spoiler
That was absolutely hilarious! And then attacking you when you check up on him, damn husk, haha.
James's balls are safe, he did send me the e-mail today, yaaay! Finally I can finish up that N7 cabin talk ![]()
It's quite interesting though, it seems I really didn't get the dialogue with one of my other Sheps because I didn't talk to him on the Citadel and Purgatory early on. I did the sparring after Sur'Kesh and took him on all missions after that, never got any mail. Maybe it was bugged, but it could be that these two conversations count a lot towards his mail.
In any case, Tuchanka and Citadel coup again and I died quite a few times, hahaha. Especially nice was the one death were I accidentally charged a turret. Oh dear.
Shattering enemies is sooo nice though, that sound... mmh ![]()
I will likely tackle the last few N7 missions next, those are always nice to do for the dialogue hunt.
That is all the news from Vega-land today ![]()
Gee fraggle, thanks for asking us for our opinions about your proposed builds. No, it's fine, I was totally not wanting to play Mass Effect tonight instead of replying to your post. No really it's okay.
Here are my ideas for these two characters and classes, if interested:
Infiltrator - Maxine Shepard, Spacer/War Hero
Thoughts on powers and setup:
- In ME1 I was thinking about Hacking as Bonus Talent so it's consistent throughout all 3 games. Also I do love Hacking a lot in general.
- Powers in ME2 should be Tactical Cloak and Incinerate mostly, but I haven't decided yet if she's more the shotgun or sniping type... maybe both (well, Shotguns are only available after the Collector ship, right? So likely sniping a lot first ).
Permanent squad mate is of course Garrus, and I think she'll get along nicely with Kasumi or Mordin. Bonus Power... could be Flashbang I think. However if I use Kasumi then I would maybe go for Energy Drain because Infiltrators also have Overload in ME1.
- Powers in ME3 will again be Tactical Cloak, Incinerate (or ED) and probably Sabotage. Squad will be Garrus, and James a lot... again But she'll love him like a brother and they'll become good friends, and James and Garrus will be bros too, so... logical choice, hahaha.
Bonus power might be Energy Drain again if I use it in ME2. Otherwise likely Drone or Decoy, both of which I might not use often anyway. But let's see!
For Mass Effect 1, Hacking is good bonus power for the Infiltrator since it essentially turns it into an Engineer that can use Immunity. As always, I point people to this thread: [Mass Effect 1] Start of the Journey: Single Playthrough Builds by Simbacca. As Simbacca points out, An Infiltrator with Hacking looks like an Engineer that traded Neural Shock and it's bonus talent for Immunity and Medium Armor. (A good trade in my opinion. Plus if you ignore Damping, you can put points into Sniper Rifles to make them a little more useful. I do not think Damping is that great of a power anyway.)
I have used an Infiltrator with Hacking before -- twice actually -- and took the Operative specialization to make it more like an Engineer. The downside is that you cannot keep Immunity constantly active unless you have two Medical Exoskeleton Xs plus a Serrice Council X Omni Tool. And since Sabotage is really not that great at crowd control, I think you are better off taking Commando specialization for the Marksman, Assassination, and Immunity upgrades.
I have played as an Engineer-like Infiltrator in ME2, where I tried to focus on Energy Drain, Incinerate, and AI Hacking. I took the Widow as the bonus weapon. It did not work out like I had hoped. I think I would have been better off ignoring AI Hacking on that build... and maybe ignoring the Widow. If you use Energy Drain, you could probably get away with using the Mantis (even though it has poorer ammo usage) or just stick with the more reliable Viper.
The build would look something like this:
Flashbang would also work. I have an Infiltrator planned that will use it, if I have enough time to do it before Mass Effect: Andromeda releases. Tony Gunslinger had a Flashbang Infiltrator thread here: The Agent - A Guide to the "Other" Infiltrator by Tony Gunslinger.
In ME3, I actually played as an Infiltrator with Sabotage + Incinerate + Energy Drain + Cryo Ammo (no cloak). It is essentially an Engineer with slightly less shield damage but with Cryo Ammo. Worked great. If you add Tactical Cloak, its power damage and weapon damage capabilities would increase substantially. Always a good choice. I would ignore Decoy and Defense Drone; they may be better for sniper builds, but Proximity Mine would be even better for sniper builds (as would Fortification which is also a good Infiltrator bonus power).
Proxy Mine would also be good for power-based builds. My favorite Infiltrator build uses Proximity Mine and a big 'ol shotgun.
Vanguard - Neva Shepard, Earthborn/War Hero
She's an "ice queen" (Neva means Snow)...
Thoughts on powers and setup:
- In ME1 I will start using Cryo Rounds here. Squad will likely be Ashley and Kaidan. Bonus talent could be Medicine I think.
- In ME2, I want to bring along Jacob to the majority of missions for LI reasons and use either Mordin's Cryo Blast for the ice theme... or Miranda again. With Miranda I haven't decided yet, it could go two ways: either Neva accepts her because she's one of two Cerberus officials on the ship, or she feels threatened by her and feels the need to show who's the boss. I can see a cool rivalry develop between those two.
Either way there'll probably be Squad Cryo Ammo, and Charge, and a Shotgun. I'm scared already
I want Dominate to be the bonus power because it fits with her character nicely.
- In ME3, I have already tested out this Shepard a bit and I had a lot of fun (besides dying a lot of times). I plan to not use Nova, only Charge, and I'll primarily use Shotguns and Assault Rifles with Squad Cryo Ammo again. I want to play some more around the "ice queen" image and shatter enemies with either Charge, the Shotgun/Rifle or Shockwave (too bad Shockwave sucks in ME2, but maybe I can use it somehow there already). Bonus power would be Dominate again.
This worked pretty well and I hope it will be fun for me the entire game, but I think it will.
I could really use Kaidan's Cryo Blast here too, but I haven't decided yet if she's forgiving him for Horizon or if she will send him away.
Sorry if this was boring, but I'm actually quite excited for these two
For Mass Effect 2, here is a Cryo Vanguard thread by ScroguBlitzen.
For using Dominate on a Vanguard (Mass Effect 2), there was a discussion about it in this thread: Playing a Vanguard like an Infiltrator by HadesNexus.
In Mass Effect 2. best to ignore Shockwave when using Cryo Ammo since Shockwave does not affect frozen enemies. But if you are using Dominate and Cryo Ammo, then you should have no problem ignoring Shockwave since you will only have enough points for rank 1 Shockwave anyway.

Caesar, I'm so sorry
I actually wasn't expecting such a detailed post, just something like "that makes no sense" or "yeah, that works"
But damn, thank you very much for this! A lot of cool threads to read and videos to watch, looking forward to it ![]()
I thought I'd have a go at using the sniper rifle.
I've never used it before, because, well, I always get the warped one.
No honestly I think Chakwas calibrated this one after a night on the Serrice ice brandy.I can see a enemy up ahead, but as soon as I look through the scope, they disappear, and usually kill me before I can find them again.
And does belting husks with your rifle butt, go towards your sniper rifle kill telly?
Extremely doubtful that meleeing an enemy to death with a sniper rifle counts towards sniper rifle kill count.
As for sniper rifles themselves, you really have to invest in the talent tree to make them useful, plus find/buy a good sniper rifle. Plus crouch. At level 1 with the crappy rifle you start with + no mods, even if you do manage to get something in your sights, as soon as you fire the recoil/aiming on the scope goes all haywire because you have no good accuracy bonuses from the gun, mods, or talent tree.
The sniper rifle you start with I think has the highest accuracy rating among sniper rifles until level IV sniper rifles (only barely better than assault rifles which all have 1 accuracy until level IV assault rifles).
Once you level them up enough, then yes sniper rifles are great, but it requires a big point investment to make them good. And for Infiltrators and Soldiers, you have to invest a lot of points into Pistols/Assault Rifles first before you can even begin putting points into sniper rifles (and as I mentioned before, assault rifles absolutely suck into level IV).
It has been a long time since i have actually used sniper rifles on a Shepard, and a few times when I have used them, it is usually a late-game point sink since I put points into other powers that are more useful.
Sniper rifles can really be fun on some uncharted worlds where you can snipe guys from a mountain top instead of using the Mako or running in on foot, but you have to wait until late game if you really want to do that since you really need to spend points into the talent first and get a good gun (HMWSR VII).

Alright, so these gasbags don't actually shoot back, but they float around like there's no tomorrow.
How are you meant to get a clean shot.
And does belting husks with your rifle butt, go towards your sniper rifle kill telly?
RedCeasar has already covered what you need to know about getting a sniper rifle to work in ME1. Once you do get it to work, though, it can be a lot of fun:
I am taking a break from ME right now but when I get back I have decided I am going to Virmire Ash anyway though I really don't want to. I made my current Shepard with the plan of romancing Jack in ME 2 and that is what I am going to do. And since Ashley is ambush romancing me I am going to have to Virmire her.
After watching Ex Machina..... I've suddenly decided against letting Joker romancing EDI..... O_o ever...
Plus crouch.
Bruno Shepard was a little busy today:
1. Went to Zorya with Zaeed to liberate a refinery from Vido Santiago. Zaeed got bloodthirsty for revenge against Vido and set the refinery on fire. Bruno Shepard decided to save the refinery. He convinced Zaeed to let go of his grudge (at least for the time being) and focus on the mission.
2. Went to Pragia with Jack to plant a bomb. Encountered some Blood Pack mercenaries. Found a crazy biotic named Aresh who wanted to restart the facility. Convinced Jack to let Aresh go. Blew up the facility.
3. Went to Tuchanka to see if someone knew what was wrong with Grunt. Met the clan leader who was Bruno's old friend Urdnot Wrex. Well okay, 'friend' might be pushing it, but Wrex considers Shepard a friend so who is Shepard to argue? Arguing with a Krogan can be hazardous to one's health.
Apparently Grunt is becoming an adult and needed to take the Rite of Passage. So they took the rite of passage. They killed some varren, then some klixen, then a Thresher Maw. Then they killed some big idiot named Uvenk and his equally stupid cronies. (Seriously, we just took down a Thresher maw -- which has not been done since Wrex -- and you think you can kill us? Oooookay....) So Grunt passed the rite, we got the upgrades and the shop discount. Score!
4. While still on Tuchanka, Bruno Shepard and Mordin tracked down Maelon, his former assistant on the genophage 2.0 project. Killed a bunch of Blood Pack mercs (and Vorcha and Varren) in Weyrloc territory, and even killed Weyrloc Gould who had delusions of grandeur. Found Maelon who was researching a genophage cure for clan Weyrloc because he was clearly unstable. Bruno Shepard let Mordin shoot him to death. Kept Maelon's research data just in case.

However, I remember Liara saying she thought I might be interested in her and ask about it, giving me the option to say "no".
I don't know what happened. I had turned down Liara and made it clear to Kaidan that I was interested only in him. The only thing I can think of is that I was mocking about his past on occasion and was generally nice to Liara. The oddest thing is that I didn't even get the confrontation scene in the comm-room.
Now I've discovered the Ghost command I've been able to leave recruiting Mordin to last and still be able to get my upgrades installed/built. Just ghost through the locked door, become solid and use the terminal, and then ghost out.
Ok, I haven't played ME in forever, and discovering this thread has made me want to do another run through of the whole series. XD I've only ever completed the whole trilogy with femSheps before, which makes me want to do a maleShep this time around, but I don't know if I'll be able to stand Mark Meer's automaton delivery the entire time. ![]()
I also need to figure out a few other things...like class. I usually go with Vanguard or Infiltrator. I need to broaden my horizons and play something I usually don't...like Adept or Sentinel. What do you guys think? And powers...urgh, so many decisions to make. And will I ever be able to make a custom face that doesn't look terrible? No way am I going to stare at Sheploo for 3 games. Nope, not gonna happen. ![]()
I enabled my console ![]()
Also can anyone tell me about using Teleport. Thought it might make the Mako easier to endure. Especially as my NY resolution is to collect all the writiings, insignias, data etc. The wiki says you can teleport to the place marked by crosshairs, but I don't get crosshairs.
I enabled my console
That is amazing ![]()
Played more ME3 yesterday and today and finished up recording Vega's dialogue for all N7 missions and the Rachni mission together with Tali. Might return to ME2 tomorrow and do Mordin's Loyalty mission ![]()
Oh, and happy new year everybody! May 2016 be filled with even more Mass Effect ![]()
I did a bunch of stuff today with Bruno Shepard, but now I cannot remember everything I did.
1. Gave Liara intel on the Shadow Broker. When Bruno showed up at her apartment, she was gun. Looks like someone tried to kill her. Teamed up with an Asari Spectre named Vasir to track her down. They traced her location to the Dracon Trade Center, which was promptly attacked. Bruno killed some of the Shadow Broker's goon squad before making it to Liara, only to find out Vasir was working with the Shadow Broker. Bruno Shepard and Liara chased Vasir across Illium, before finally killing her and taking her data. Liara used the data to track down the Shadow Broker.
2. Liara and Shepard landed on the Shadow Broker's ship, fought their way to a hatch, then boarded. Inside they found Feron, an old friend of Liara's; the Shadow Broker was holding him prisoner and torturing him. To free him, they needed to shut off the power, but to do that they needed to kill the Shadow Broker. They confronted the Shadow Broker, who turned out to be a Yahg, a pre-spaceflight species. Liara speculated he was taken in by the previous Shadow Broker. After a brief fight, Shepard and Liara killed the Shadow Broker, and shut off the power to free Feron. But when the power came back online, Liara took over as the new Shadow Broker.
3. Completed Jacob's loyalty mission. Arrested Ronald Taylor for his crimes.
4. Completed Tali's loyalty mission. Convinced the Admiralty Board to find Tali innocent of treason.
5. Completed Garrus's loyalty mission. Stopped Garrus from shooting Harkin. Talked to Sidonis, found out that he felt guilty about betraying the squad wished he was dead. So Shepard let Garrus shoot him.
6. Went to Aratoht to and busted Kenson out of a Batarian prison. Once on board a shuttle, Kenson explained that her team had found a Reaper artifact that showed her the Reapers were coming. They had planned to slam an asteroid into the Mass Relay to delay the Reaper's arrival. Bruno Shepard said he wanted to see the artifact.
7. On the Asteroid, Shepard saw the artifact, which then gave him a vision of the Reapers arriving, while at the same time Kenson and the rest of the project personnel tried to take Shepard down to prevent him from starting the project. Shepard held off all the waves of the indoctrinated project staff before the artifact hit him with a pulse, knocking him out.
8. Shepard awoke two days later despite being heavily drugged (hurray for Cerberus implants, I guess). He fought his way through the installation before finally arriving at the terminal to activating the fusion torches to move the asteroid towards the relay. He tried to warn a nearby Batarian colony, but Kenson interrupted the transmission and vowed to destroy the asteroid with a reactor meltdown. Shepard fought his way through the facility to reset the cooling tanks to prevent the meltdown. Kenson blew herself up in a failed attempt to kill Shepard. Shepard then ran to the asteroid's landing pad. He contacted the Normandy for extraction. The Collector General decided to have a small chat over the same comm terminal to tell Shepard that he could not stop the Reapers.
The Normandy arrived, picked up Shepard, and flew through the relay, just before the Asteroid slammed into it. The relay went nova and destroyed the star system. Hackett came aboard the Normandy and had a small chat with Shepard before leaving.
I mentioned at some point earlier in this thread that my next four Shepards will have themed ME2 playthroughs/suicide mission outcomes: Pro-tech, anti-tech, pro-biotic, and anti-biotic. (My current Shepard, Bruno Shepard, will be the anti-tech).
I just realized that my next Shepard, David Shepard, will be the pro-biotic playthrough. But... I realized that I actually had planned for him to romance Tali. Oops. So it looks like it may be an pro-biotic plus Tali. Nuts.
I could still switch it up I suppose, but it makes more sense if my pure-tech Engineer is the pro-tech outcome and the tech+combat Infiltrator is the anti-biotic outcome.
I probably should have spent more time thinking this through.
I probably should have spent more time thinking this through.
I don't know. You already seem to put much more thought into your play throughs than I ever do. ![]()
