From the journal of David Shepard:

I went to go help Kasumi with her heist. She had me wear a suit (I hate suits) and we joined a party filled with criminals, mercenaries, assassins, and other lowlifes. What a charming bunch of villians! (Note to future me reading this: I am being sarcastic when I write that.)

Anyway, she wanted to get back a greybox that used to belong to her boyfriend before this Donovan Hock guy killed him and took it. It apparently contains a big bad secret that needs to stay hidden. Okay, sure.

At the party, we cased the vault. After a bunch of running around getting DNA samples, voice samples, shutting down the security and shutting off the security grid, we finally made it into the vault, only for Donovan Hock to be ready for us. He had recognized Kasumi at the door and saw an opportunity. He wanted the information in the greybox but needed Kasumi to get it since the key was tied to her memories. Great.

Kasumi was not giving up without a fight which meant I was not going out without a fight which meant I fought a huge contingent of Hock's personal guard/mercenary force. We killed dozens of them before making it outside for pickup when he showed up in a gunship and started sending in more mercs. It was tough battle, but Kasumi managed to disable the gunship shields and then I destroyed the gunship, ending the fight.

I let Kasumi keep the greybox.

I am now currently planning my next move. Do I go pick up this Krogan Warlord named Okeer, or go after this prisoner named Jack?

Sooo, finally continued today (thanks Dragon Age for eating up all my time :P). And to my surprise the mission went amazingly smooth. Getting swarmed by husks is not exactly how I like to spend my time, but it was quite alright for once. I even practiced Melee a bit :P

It was time to get that Reaper IFF. Joker flew the Normandy close to the dead Reaper, and Jack, Mordin and I boarded it. There were some tremors at some point and Joker told us that the Reaper's barrier had somehow activated and we're cut off from the Normandy. Great. If we reach the core we should be able to turn it off.

We found out what happened to the Cerberus team that was stationed here. Not something I'd wish on any of us. Indoctrinated.

When we moved further into the Reaper, some shots suddenly fired, and husks fell dead to the ground. So someone is still here...

The same happened a couple minutes later, only that the shooter saved me from some husks coming up from behind, and then revealed him- itself... a geth. And it knew my name. What the hell?

There was no time to think about it further as we had to fight through dozens of enemies, until we finally reached our destination. I picked up the Reaper IFF and opened the door to the Reapers' mass effect core. The geth was inside, but was being overwhelmed by husks. I shot the core, we took the geth just in case, and got the hell off that damn thing. Glad to be back on our ship.

After hearing both Miranda's and Jacob's opinions on what to do with the geth, I decided to activate it. I was curious about it.

It turned out to be friendly, explained that there were actually two groups of geth... the one it belongs to and the heretics. The ones I fought 2 years ago. The ones that had followed Sovereign. So if it's telling the truth, not all geth are hostile towards organics. Interesting...

When I asked the geth what I should call it, it had no clue, but EDI chimed in and proposed a name. Legion.

With that, Legion also told me about Heretic Station, a geth station in the Terminus Systems. The geth there are planning to spread a virus to all other geth so they'd join their side. Of course we have to do something about it, I don't want to fight these damn machines again.

Picture time:

Next up Legion's Loyalty, then the Collector Base. I reaaally want to play ME3 again ^_^

Now Fraggle - husks need lovin' too. :D  I don't recall so much in 2 but in 3 the husks definitely have a sheploo thing going on with their faces. And I'm going to have to try that cryo / incinerate - it looks like fun

My recent ME3 playthrough, as an engineer, I used cyro and incinerate. Lots of fun. I would freeze the baddies, then incinerate for an icy explosion. At times I would get 3 baddies together with massive explosions. For me, I have the most fun playing that class

I do like the engineers myself. What's best for AoE attacks for swarming husks. Because, you know, I hate them. Ignore what I said to Fraggle. Husks need to die fast and in numbers. B)

The noises were just at the edges of consciousness. At first I tried to fight them off and sink back into the warm blackness. A louder explosion and a muffled voice intruded, which proved that, if nothing else, I was a well-trained Alliance Marine. I forced my eyes open and almost immediately I was overwhelmed by sensations. The throbbing headache, the burning pain in my side, the smell of smoke and the sound of gunfire. And then the female voice calling my name, telling me how to get to safety.

I had no reason to trust that voice but safety seemed like a good idea, so I followed instructions. Gear and a pistol were nearby, but so was a mech. My reflexes were slower, but I still took it down. Why these things were shooting at me I had no idea, but I trusted the voice. I followed its direction down corridors that didn't look like any Alliance facility I'd ever been in. One of the explosions pushed a memory forward and sent a chill down my spine as I remembered the air leaving my suit and the Normandy exploding around me. Was that what this was? Had the Alliance somehow found me just in time? Or was I a prisoner on the ship that had fired on us?

The voice faded into static as the sound of gunfire echoed through the comm and then went silent. I was on my own now. I entered a room postered with x-rays of a broken body and scans of muscle and bone in various stages of healing. And then I saw my own name on one of the scans. No, it was on every scan. There was a console nearby and I tapped it, bringing up a video. This was the face that went with the voice that I'd heard earlier. What the hell was this? Who the hell was this? I played it again. Something about Project Lazarus. Lazarus certainly rang a bell. He was the guy that Jesus raised from the dead. This felt very wrong.

I turned to try and catch my reflection in the glass, and wasn't sure it was me. A red glow emanated from jagged scars on my face. My eyes were brighter than I remembered, as if backlit somehow. But the white hair was what caught my breath. I reached up, trying to match the reflection and make sure I was really looking at myself. I watched as I brushed the hair out of my eyes, back behind my ears. This couldn't be me. But how could it be anyone else?

From the journal of David Shepard:

Thanks to that security upgrade that fixed the Omni Gel hack technique, my squadmates can no longer write in my journal. To compensate, they have now started messing with me in other ways. Not sure who did it, but someone managed to paint my armor pink, just before the next mission. I like the color pink as much as the next guy, but I kind of stand out on the battlefield looking like that; I get shot at enough as it is without becoming a walking "shoot me" sign.

So we dropped off on some junkyard planet looking for a Krogan Warlord named Okeer. A lot of Blue Suns mercs were also hanging around, using it as a training ground. Turns out Okeer was creating Krogan. The Blue Suns leader wanted the Krogan to create a small army, but they were coming out insane so the mercs were using them for training. I had to kill a lot of mercs and a few Krogan before I could get to Okeer. I even managed to run into that Asari scientist I met on Virmire two years ago. Wisely, she took off before more bad things would happen.

I finally met Okeer. He wanted to create superior Krogan, but not cure the genophage. He had made a deal with the Collectors to get some of their tech and he used it to create a perfect Krogan which was currently in a tank. Then the Blue Suns leader discovered that Okeer had been releasing the Krogan and she ordered the project shut down. Okeer wanted to save his perfect Krogan so he offered to help us in exchange for killing the Blue Suns leader, Jedore.

She did not go down easy. Or rather, it took us a long time to kill the YMIR mech and insane Krogan she threw at us before we took her out with relative ease. But during the fight, Okeer died because Jedore poisoned the lab, but he managed to save his perfect Krogan.

For now I have decided to leave the Krogan in the tank. If the other Krogan created by Okeer are any indication, this one is insane and perhaps even more dangerous.

Now I have to figure out how to re-paint my armor back to its original color scheme.

My engineer shep did omega, got all smug about not being a grunt and used his fancy interrupt.
Left aria confused and petrovsky lived.
Then he found some artefact on the citadel. Turned out after some investigation it was an indoctrination sphere. For some reason he wasn't allowed to destroy it. Found monster's lair, marked it on the map and left it well alone since he couldn't nuke it from orbit.

- Miranda shot Wilson. I think I like her.
- Miranda insisted on some silly test on the way to meet The Illusive Man. It made me cranky.
- The Illusive Man is a pompous jerk.
- Yep, all the people are gone. What are we doing here again?
- Oh, hi Tali.
- This Veetor kid is messed up. He won't be of any use. Better off just taking the data.
- Illusive Man seems pleased, but whatever.
- It's Joker and a new Normandy! Maybe this won't be so bad.
- It's an AI. Maybe this will be this bad.
- I concur with Miranda's description of Omega as a "pisshole"
- Fine, fine, Aria. "You're Omega." Just give me what I want.
- Oh, the sick Baatarian died. How incredibly sad.
- This place reeks. And not just because of the burning bodies.
- This Mordin guy may be smart, but he won't shut up.
- You're stupid and naive Daniel. Go back to the clinic.
- Cure's taken care of, Mordin. Let's get out of here. And thanks for the pistol.
- Time to get Archangel
- No, kid, don't be a ******. Here, let me disable that pistol for you.
- Who are the idiots signing up as freelancers? This is a terrible plan.
- There you go, try dealing with that reprogrammed mech.
- Working on a gunship can be shocking.
- These mercs are idiots.
- Holy ****, it's Garrus!
- Holy ****, Garrus is hurt!
- Yes, Jacob. Garrus is tougher than you. Thank god, because I can actually use him.

Tali and Oilpan just look at me wondering what I'm doing. I don't care. Lets party. Alright. I see a few people dancing. Aha. I got it. I ask Tali and Oilpan which one of them eats food. Its Tali. She wins. Bye, bye Oilpan.

- the asari councilor tells me about something that might identify something that's part of something that can stop the reapers.

- I meet Ashley on the presidium

From the journal of David Shepard:

So today I went to the prison ship Purgatory to pick up Jack. It was supposed to be a simple exchange, but things really went off the rails as soon as put on my armor. Seems someone on my ship thought it would be funny to line the inside of my armor with itching powder. If it wasn't for the intermittent soothing application of medi-gel, I would have been a complete wreck.

We met the prison warden, Kuril, as soon as we entered the prison. He wanted to remove our weapons for security reasons, but I argued the point and he dropped the matter. But it turns out that he thought it would be a good idea to try to capture me so he could sell me for a huge profit. He wanted me to surrender peacefully, but he obviously does not know me very well. I am a nice guy, but I am not stupid.

He sent a bunch of his guards and some mechs after me, but we broke out and I managed to find my way to a console. I wanted to release Jack from cryo, but without enough time for finesse and with all the guards wanting to take me down, I hacked into the computer to let all the prisoners out. And that's when we saw Jack.

I pictured Jack as some big, burly guy. Instead we saw a small woman covered in tatoos. I thought there must be some mistake until she took out a bunch of YMIR mechs with an impressive biotic display. Being a biotic myself, I knew she would not be able to do that again anytime soon. I can see why the Illusive Man thought she would be useful.

We chased after Jack. She had a head start and all the prison guards and mechs tried to kill us. We even caught up with the Kuril himself. Deciding that it was too much trouble to capture me alive, he tried to kill me. Deciding it was too much trouble to keep him alive, i shot him dead.

We finally caught up with Jack. She did not want to go with us; seems she and Cerberus had some past run-ins and did not want to come along. We finally struck a bargain: she would join the Normandy if I gave her access to Cerberus databases. Miranda was not happy about that arrangement, but The Illusive Man did tell us to recruit Jack. On board the Normandy, Jack took up residence below the Engineering deck.

Having finished recruiting the people on the dossiers, we wait until The Illusive Man gives us our next set of orders, and I find a solution to this itching powder. It is starting to bother me again.

William is currently orbiting above Ilos, pondering the end of his military career and trying to figure out a strategy for dealing with Sovereign. He's been to the ends of the galaxy doing everything from saving scientists from biotic terrorists to putting down a Geth incursion and a whole lot of stuff between. At least that last bit got Tali some useful info for her pilgrimage. Granted that releasing the Rachni queen and nuking Saren's science facility on Virmire (it was the only way to be sure) were not necessarily popular decisions, he still didn't expect the Alliance to lock the Normandy down on the Citadel and flat out refuse to let him go after Saren. After losing Staff Sgt Williams on Virmire (thankfully he was able to talk Wrex down from his desire to get the genophage cure), he was in no mood to just hang around. Admiral Anderson was able to override the Ambassador's lock down (so there will be two at the court martial if he survives tracking Saren) to get the Normandy loose. At least there had been a moment with Liara while docked.

Whatever comes next, he knows both Wrex and Liara will be there with him to see things through. He doesn't remember the last time he took someone else with him on a mission. Their biotic powers and his weaponry have made them a lethal combination throughout the galaxy. Even against the Geth, the lack of any kind of tech powers has not hindered them other than being unable to open a few weapon and storage containers. It all really came together once he got enough credits to buy the SPECTRE weapons and some good armor for the crew shortly after Feros. Since then it's been constant upgrading of his gear to make sure that he had the right equipment for every situation.

Looks like he's going to have a long night of poring through data to try and find something that will give him an advantage against Saren, but more so against Sovereign.

Saved the council...again. Fatima Shepard doesn't care for them and they've made her mad enough to kill them a lot of times but she saved them. Udina is dead...Fatima warned him that no one screws over her. She took the shot instead of Kaidan.

From the journal of David Shepard:

The Illusive Man called with an urgent message: the colony of Horizon just went silent and was likely under attack. He also told me that Kaidan Alenko was stationed on Horizon. That seemed strange. Anderson told me Kaidan was on assignment, but what was he doing at the ass-end of nowhere?

I put those thoughts aside as I told Joker to get us to the colony as fast as possible. I went to talk with Mordin, and luckily he had a counter-measure for the seeker swarms ready to go. I also found out that someone painted my armor to look like a candy cane. Why are my crew members like this?

We got near to Horizon and took a shuttle down the colony. The Collectors were already there, their ship standing tall in the middle of the colony. It was huge and imposing. Good news for us: Mordin's counter measure worked. However, the Collectors noticed us almost right away and flew in to attack us. Turns out the creepy-looking race have wings and can fly like insects. We also encountered humanoid husks similar to the husks I fought when hunting Saren; a definitive link between the Collectors and the Reapers.

We ran into a mechanic who had managed to hide in a building away from the seeker swarms. He told us about some defense towers they had tried to install courtesy of Kaidan and the Alliance, but the targeting did not work. He ranted about Kaidan and The Alliance some more. I told him to stay put while we went to fix the defense towers. We had found some colonists frozen in stasis on the way to the mechanic, but as we got closer to the Collector ship, no more colonists could be seen. We had to hurry.

The Collectors had surrounded the defense towers with some husks and some ugly giant husk-like creature with a big gun; Miranda suggested we call it a 'Scion'. Sure, whatever. They did not go down easy, and their attacks sure hurt like hell.

After clearing the towers of hostiles, we patched in EDI to a terminal so she could fix the targeting software. We were forced to defend the tower from the Collectors while EDI worked away. The Collector General, Harbinger, kept taking control of nearby Collectors, but my trusty Combat Drone kept him occupied. I should really give my drone a name at some point.

EDI finally fixed the defense towers and they started shooting at the Collector ship. Meanwhile, some giant, nasty flying bug with husk heads for teeth showed up and started firing lasers out of its mouth at us. Miranda suggested we call it a 'Praetorian'. I'll give Miranda a lot of credit: she is good at Warp-bombing with my Slam, and good at naming Collector creatures. Works for me.

After a long battle with the Praetorian, it finally fizzled away and then the Collector Ship buggered out after sustaining too much damage (I hope). Then Kaidan showed up, somewhat angry. He was mad I did not contact him for two years. I told him I was in a coma while Cerberus rebuilt me. That pretty much ended the conversation. He was mad and disappointed that the rumors were true and I was working for Cerberus. He said the Alliance sent him to Horizon, saying that they got a tip that Horizon could be the next colony hit.

It all made sense: The illusive Man started the rumor that I was working for Cerberus, and then -- suspecting that the Collectors were targeting people close to me -- sent in a tip that Horizon would be attacked next. When I confronted the Illusive Man he confirmed my suspicions were true. I wish there had been another way to lure the Collectors out of hiding but I could not think of any. And hopefully the Collectors will be more cautious now in hitting colonies. Hopefully that buys us more time while we figure out our next move.

The Illusive Man also gave me three more dossiers, including one for Tali! It would be good to see Tali again. Hopefully she can actually join us this time.

From the journal of David Shepard:

Went to Illium today. Found out Liara was now working as an information broker, and was trying to track down the Shadow Broker. Seems the Shadow Broker took a friend of hers and she wants him dead. I helped her out with a few errands that got her closer to tracking the Shadow Broker down.

I also ran into Gianna Parsini, the internal affairs officer I had met back on Noveria. I helped her with another case.

I also ran into Conrad Verner. He still creeps me out.

Shiala was also there. She is the Asari I met on Feros, the one the Thorian kept cloning. I helped her with a small problem involving Baria Frontiers and a medical contract. It feels good to help Feros again.

I disabled a Geth device on a remote planet that was causing unusual weather patterns. Not sure why the Geth needed such a device, but I took care of it just the same. Got a sweet Damage Protection upgrade in the process, just what I needed for Hard Shields upgrade.

Still trying to decide what to select as a bonus weapon for David Shepard (Engineer) in ME2. Either shotguns or assault rifles. I really like shotguns, but I have a lot of shotgun Engineers already (at least four), but only one with assault rifles.

From the journal of David Shepard:

I followed Liara's information and went to go see an Asari named Serena about the assassin Thane. She said she did not hire him, but said she did know he was going after Nassana Dantius. It took me a moment before I remembered the name. Nassana had me kill her sister two years ago during my hunt for Saren. Seems she pissed off someone enough to send a contract killer after her.

Serena volunteered to bring me to Dantius towers which were still under construction. Seems Nassana had hired some Eclipse mercenaries to protect her and the towers. I would say she was paranoid, but she did have an assassin hunting her down.

When I finally got there, I saw some mechs shooting some of the workers! One of them managed to survive and I gave him some medi-gel to keep him stable. Seems Nassana suddenly ordered all the workers shot; some of the workers even jumped off the building to avoid the mechs. I had originally thought about trying to keep both Nassana and Thane alive, but after seeing what Nassana was capable of, I was willing to let him kill her. As Serena said, I was just a distraction to make sure Thane got a clear shot.

There were a lot of mercs and mechs between me and Nassana. I even managed to help rescue a few workers along the way. Seems that Thane even managed to save a few himself; not what I expected from an assassin, but it is good to know that he has some form of conscience.

When I finally made it to Nassana, she tried to buy me off; she refused to believe that I was not the person trying to kill her. While she was still ranting, Thane dropped down from a vent in the ceiling and very swiftly killed her guards before shooting her dead. He was graceful in his movements; Thane was no mere killer-for-hire. He was definitely highly trained.

And then he prayed over the body. I asked him why and he said he was praying for himself. Very odd, but also very intriguing. I asked if he would join me in my mission to stop the Collectors. He said he would, saying it would save a lot of innocent lives. He also said he was dying and this was part of his way to atone. Huh.

Back on board the Normandy, Jacob was clearly perturbed about Thane, mainly because he hates mercenaries and assassins are just precise mercenaries. Hard to argue with Jacob, but The Illusive Man wanted him on our team and Thane was nothing like I expected from an assassin. I suppose I expected someone like Zaeed, only more callous.

I can't wait to talk to him, but I want to let him get settled first.

From the journal of David Shepard:

We went to a planet called Haestrom to go pick up Tali. Someone painted boobs on my armor. Not funny!

I did not know what the Quarians were doing there, but the Geth were there too; it was a former Quarian colony so I guess it made sense. As we made our way to Tali, we encountered some dead Quarians. We finally found a radio and talked the Quarians; seems they were there for some research and encountered the Geth and got pinned down. I watched helplessly as a Geth ship flew in and killed some of the remaining Quarians before taking off again.

I finally got near Tali's position, but a Colossus was standing guard near her position and started firing at us. The lone remaining Quarian, a Kal'Reegar, was also there trying to prevent the Geth from killing Tali where she was bunkered down. I told Kal'Reegar to stand down and watch my back, and then i stormed the Colossus' position and blew it up, and then took out the rest of the Geth. With Tali safe, she sent the research back to the fleet with Kal'Reegar, then joined my crew with permission from the Quarian fleet.

On board, she was not particularly happy working with Cerberus, and she got snippy with Jacob. Luckily, she likes working for me (even though I am working for Cerberus) and she was fascinated with the new Normandy and she actually liked Ken and Gabby and the rest of the crew. We even had a quick game of Skillian five poker (I won!).

Now to re-paint my armor before the next mission.

Found the time to push the Insanity playthrough a bit.  Frank Shepard gets the distress signal on Grissom Academy.  There he meets Jack and after getting punched, he tells her to shut up. :D  However, Jack didn't shut up.  Eventually, Cerberus did however.  Shame that I didn't get to fire off the Ladon and wipe the map clean of Cerbie stain.

Frank soon circled back to the Citadel to deliver some of the swag he's been lugging around from all the space trekking.  He meets up with Thane and then Kaidan in the hospital.  Kaidan thinks Shepard is flirting with him, but I couldn't find the option to say: "No, you idiot."

Finally, Frank met up with Miranda.  It was a friendly meeting between two competent operatives who respect each other.  I always thought that the arc would be far more interesting if Oriana ended up vanishing, not because she's been chased by Henry Lawson, but because she figured out what a monster her father was and brought her own paid army to take down Sanctuary. :)
