I'm not a big fan of sniping in ME1 to be honest :D That's why I currently use the pistol for my Infiltrator all the time.

But I can't wait to get back to sniping in ME2, just gimme the Viper <3 I should likely try out the Widow on the Infi, but then Shotguns was something I'd also like to try. Ugh, I hate making decisions sometimes

Try explosive ammo X and two scram rail X with your Spectre X sniper rifle, you hit like the Mako cannon. :D

I always find sniping in ME 1 to be a mixed bag.  With the level layout and the terrain it has some of the best opportunities for sniping in the entire trilogy but the sniper rifles themselves can be frustrating to say the least.  Just have to be patient invest points in sniper rifles and get the right mods for the sniper rifles.  It pays off later in the game.  If I am playing as a soldier or infiltrator I always use my sniper rifles to take out those turrets at the end of the game on the tower.

It's funny how this always happens by the time I hit ME 3 I start thinking about my next Shepard and the next class and background I want to play instead of focusing where I am at.  Anyone else always finding themselves thinking ahead instead of focusing where they are at?  When I am playing ME 1 I find myself thinking about the sequels and how I can't wait to import so I can play with my classes abilities that only the sequels have as well as using my favorite guns within the sequels.  When I am playing ME 2 I find myself wanting to play ME 3 so I can actually take on the reapers, and when I am playing ME 3 I find myself wanting to go back to ME 1 to play as a new class, alignment, gender, and background.  Of course the Andromeda hype makes me want to play ME 1 as well since Andromeda will be taking ME 1's concepts with the Mako and exploration and refining them.  I can never just focus where I am at.  I still have plenty of ME 3 left yet I am already thinking of my next trilogy run with an infiltrator when poor Kevin is still trying to negotiate peace between the Quarians and the Geth while trying to get the crucible finished.

ABSOLUTELY!!! When I start ME1 I want to play ME2, when I play ME2 I want to play ME3, and then go back to 1 with the next Shepard. This is way too funny and I'm glad I'm not the only one :D

I am currently still trying out all classes for the first time, I'm missing Vanguard and Sentinel after my Infiltrator, and have them planned out pretty much already, including who they'll romance.

In addition to that, all that talk about the many many possibilities in how to set up Shepard, on the train ride from work today I planned a little bit ahead for Set 2 of all 6 classes. This time I'll simply switch their gender and try out remaining romances, and try to maybe make a bit of an opposite character for each class and Shepard I played in my 1st set. God I hate love ME. I'm just sad I was so late to the party, but on the other hand I really enjoy exploring what I missed so far and share it with you awesome people in here :)

Try explosive ammo X and two scram rail X with your Spectre X sniper rifle, you hit like the Mako cannon. :D

I'll try to remember that! :D

Yeah, I'm gonna wait until I really snipe. I tried the Sniper Rifle on my Soldier and it was okay, just the others were somehow more fun for me, haha. But later on it should be pretty nice.

In Mass Effect 3, my Shepard will snipe, even if she is a Vanguard. I want a balance of long and short range. Pick apart the battlefield with an assault rifle/sniper rifle (also use Shockwave and Pull), then kill whatever is left with Charge and a good shotgun, along with Nova. Want to be patient and ruthless at the same time. I'm not going to have her charge an army of Banshees and Brutes at the same time. It's suicide.

Mass Effect 1 has the best snipping experience for me. Well, at least if you have allocated enough points to it.  The combination of 2 scram rails plus explosive rounds will really turn the snipper into a portable cannon.

The explosive rounds are the one feature related to combat that ME2 and 3 failed to recreate (unless one considers heavy weapons like the Cain, but they can only be used in some very rare occasions). Scarcity of ammo is not a problem in ME1.

Luckly, on PC one can start at a higher level and add the gear he or she desires by means of the console commands. If it wasn´t for this feature I would not have the patience to experience so many trilogy runs but only ME2 and ME3 runs with a hacked ME2 save featuring ME1 decisions.

ME2 and ME3 in their designed settings are ok (the only thing I like to play around with is the morality bar because it limits the choices you make and the order you can do things) but 1 becomes a pain very quickly. I simply can not stand anymore to constantly promote alterations to the gear every time new items are dropped (and this happens every ten minutes or so). It was not fun not even during the first play I had. It became a bore very fast and now I find it unbearable.

My advice is: Play the pc version, give yourself the experience you desire, the gear that better suits you, and if you think that the game became too easy, just try to raise the difficult settings accordingly till you find your desired level of challenge. Playing on the 2 hardest settings with a level 50 to 60 team is actually harder than playing on the lower levels starting with a level 1.

Mass Effect 1 is actually a very short game. Bioware (forever living at the shadow of Baldurs Gate 2 and the legendary 200 hours of content) did create the illusion that the game is big by making you run around and drive around at a very slow speed. Most of the time that the complenionists spend (I would say WASTE if they do so repeatedly) is just by driving around on the mako or constantly replacing equipment and selling older stuff in order to open room for newer items.

Now, getting back on track on ME3. Miriam Shepard was able to survive Omega and "free" the station. To be honest, the ownership was just returned to the previous dictator. But hey, she did promise lots of resources and troops for the war. Besides, hundreds of years of occupation do seem to offer a bit of legitimacy to her claim.

The experience was a success. Was able to cast a few explosions with the temporary squadmates, even if not so constantly (their recharge rate was much slower than lightweight characters). Had to repeat the two disarming sections quite a few times.

After Omega, Shepard remembered Miranda mentioned that after visiting Omega she needed a shower. She agreed. But it was too late in the trilogy to date Traynor or anyone else who would enjoy the bathroom (I had to persist on Samara), so she decided to complete Leviathan instead by diving. The experience felt like swimming in "acid" water. A true psychedelic event with great visuals.

Tomorrow it´s time to head to Thesia, do the final side-quests jobs, face both Reapers and Cerberus at Sanctuary. And later, Citadel.

Always. Considering I have 5 playthroughs started at various points (four Shepards in ME3, Nicole Shepard ready for import into ME2) and I already want to play my next Infiltrator trilogy playthrough; she is already on the Normandy in ME1.

I can't stop

This should go into the Multiplayer thread. The packs are RNG. If you're just looking for ammo and  grade III mods, go for the veteran pack. A grade III mod is always given.

If you're looking for better weapons or the ultra rare weapons or grade 4 ammo / kits or the class you don't have, it's the premium, arsenal and reserves packs. They all cost the same so it's a matter of what the spinning wheel will drop for you. I spent like 5-6 million credits to get the Cerberus Harrier X and that was only when I had racked up over 18 million credits to try for it.

If you just want to stock up on gels, shield regen kits, etc, it's either the veteran or jumbo equipment pack.

Thanks, man! I've been wasting my time and credits buying Jumbo Packs thinking they would help me upgrade my gear and stuff, only to end with the same items over and over. I've copied and saved your post in a file and I'll try new gameplays. Again, thanks a lot for the help!  ;)

I have plans for at least 9 more trilogy runs. They will culminate with a canon run of sorts. And then I will maybe take a sabbatical, maybe concentrate on dragon age, maybe play my long steam catalog collecting dust (many of them untouched)... Or maybe I will just play Mass Effect one more time. I want to try at least one renegade shepard romancing Jack where most of the crew survives (my previous renegades had a way of causing lots of deaths), and at least six paragons (one for each class). The strange thing is, I already laid the plan for each of them, from order of missions to squad-mate composition.

We managed to clear out some major geth posts in the Armstrong cluster. It was no easy work, I can tell you! So many geth, I wonder what they're up to. Or were up to. I hope we got them all. We found some data on the geth, and Tali asked me if she can have a copy. For her pilgrimage. It's no problem, and I hope that this will help her. I'm already a little sad that she - and likely Garrus and Wrex - will leave once we tracked down Saren. Which is soon, I hope.

With the geth gone in the Armstrong cluster, we headed to the Artemis Tau cluster. I had hoped to find Dr. T'Soni right away, but three systems later and we still haven't found her. There's only one left, so this must be it. We are heading there right now.

But we found some interesting things in the other systems. We touched down on a planet in the Sparta system... Admiral Kahoku had asked me to look for a missing recon team there if I have the time. They were all dead unfortunately. A distress beacon was set up right by a giant thresher maw. Who does these things? I need to report back to Kahoku, and I think after we found Dr. T'Soni we should head back to the Citadel.

We also killed an asari slaver in a complex on Sharjila. I had been contacted by an asari diplomat called Nassana Dantius to meet her on the Citadel. Guess what the slaver's name was. Yup, Dahlia Dantius. Gonna be interesting what Nassana thinks about this. Was this what she contacted me about? Oh well. I guess I'll find out.

Alright, I gotta go get my gear ready, we'll be there soon. See ya!

So, we got Dr. T'Soni... Liara. She's very nice, and very shy and awkward it seems. Oh actually, we rescued her. We found her in some Prothean ruin, trapped inside a bubble, which was some sort of Prothean device. We quickly managed to get her out of there, and just in time, because the ruin unfortunately collapsed. Also that place was crawling with geth again. They really want to stop us.

Liara told us a little about the Protheans, and then we tried to make sense of my vision, but there was still something missing. The Council informed me about an infiltration unit on Virmire that had tried to contact them, but it didn't really work out. Since they are investigating Saren, I should check this out rather soon I think.

In the mean time we headed back to the Citadel and I told Nassana Dantius about her sister. She... actually wanted her dead. That's quite sad, isn't it. I mean, yeah, she was a criminal, but maybe there would've been some other way to deal with this.

Then I told Admiral Kahoku about the fate of his men. I met Emily Wong again and agreed to help her once more. I think she'll do some good. I also met an old friend of my mum... I have to call her about him later, I'm curious who he is. Also met my 'fan' again, he's such a weirdo, but he's nice.

We also helped Dr. Michel again... busy times! I'm just glad she's gonna be alright.

Woohoooo, only one death at the Battlemaster! Garrus is not ideal for this guy because all he really could do would be to overload the shields, or to sabotage. But we all know how that works out :D Either way, Wrex's Stasis helped at the beginning. I took care of the geth in the meantime and then only the krogan was left. Phew. Gonna do some more side quests tonight. Yay.

Rescued Miss Satto. Received an email from Bray. Since Liara had invited herself to go to Thesia´s surface I decided that Javik would be the best compliment for an Insanity run while there.

Brought Ashley and Tali to Sanctuary. They both hate cerberus. It was fun dealing with Husks and Phantoms without Liara being around. Sabotage/Overload worked wonders against phantoms. The husks were dealt with using a combination of turrets, drones, freezing and incendiaries.

After Sanctuary decided to take some time off. Had the whole drama/comedy with the clone. Used Wrex/Edi for most of the pursuit, but decided to take back the Normandy with Garrus and Edi. I feel Sorry for Tali since she´s going to clean the whole mess in the hangar. There were dozens of explosions taking place there.

The hardest part for me wasn´t the fight against the clone (I only died about 4 times), but the final segment in the citadel archives when there are several enemies using shields. I died about 10 times doing this part. I discovered that the best way to deal with it is to use a tech explosion in one of the enemies (probably the one closer to you). This will destroy his shield for a few seconds (after a few moments he will create a new one). Focus on him and cause as much damage as possible.  Should he create a new shield repeat the process. If you or the squadmates can use granades this is a good time to spend them because this is the last battle before you can regroup with all the characters (and reset grenades).

Did everything I could on Citadel DLC, including the missions inside the arena. Finally saw the content for Shepard/Samara quasi-romance. Now all that there´s left is to attack Cerberus and go to Earth.

Sidequests Sidequests Sidequests Sidequests...

I called mom, and she told me more about Zabaleta. It's actually quite sad. He never got over something that happened in his past. I will visit him again next time we're on the Citadel. Poor guy.

Other than that, we had a few more things going on. We landed on the moon in order to take care of a rogue VI on an Alliance training ground, as requested by Admiral Hackett.

I also knew C-Sec was investigating a Helena Blake, a criminal on the Citadel. When talking to her I had initially refused to eliminate two major hideouts of her cartel, who knows what she'd do afterwards. But she was right... this couldn't continue. So we checked out their hideouts and had to kill all the men, they immediately opened fire on us. I will meet with Helena Blake soon, I'm prepared for the worst, but I'm hoping for the best. Maybe this doesn't have to end in a blood bath.

Then we boarded a ship that seemed abandoned at first, but as it turned out, there was a biotic on board. She had refused to turn off the life support for her braindead boyfriend and killed the whole crew. A terrible, sad situation. She's now dead and the life support switched off. May you both find some peace...

Admiral Kahoku also had contacted me about the trap that his men fell into... the group called Cerberus was responsible. We went to check out a research facility of theirs on the planet Binthu. It was horrifying. We found the admiral dead... and more of Cerberus's disgusting experiments. I'm not sure what Kahoku stumbled upon, but we will continue to investigate this. We need to put a stop to this.

I'm beat, but before I go to bed I'm gonna go talk with Liara first, see how she's doing and settling in. Until next time.

Maxine is now a Commando :) I died once during the Cerberus facility section because I was being too ballsy in front of a Sniper :D Totally deserved that.

It's also gonna be interesting to see her interact with Cerberus in ME2. I can see her being more Renegade already  I hope I can finish ME1 over the next week.

I had a very odd morning of being endlessly confused.

First I loaded my save from before my latest re-lapse of MMO-addiction. It said I defeated Benezia and should go fix the problem in the hot Labs. After pressing E with no success a few times, re-logging, checking the E on other doors, and concluding that I am pretty much locked out in the tiny space in the restricted lab, I finally, finally wandered over to the middle of the room, and triggered a cutscene that finally let me out!

Cool conclusion of the quest! It felt so odd to see cockroaches in the new light. :)

Then I decided to resume clearing of the side-quests, re-sorted the side missions from the oldest to newest, and went to hawking cluster, landing on a rocky planet in a deep valley.

I have spent the rest of my morning driving the despised Mako around trying to get out of the valley with one moment of absolute disaster when I've parked Mako in what I thought was a vicinity of the anomaly... and I could not get to either anomaly or the Mako, so I had to reland from Normandy.

Finally, I managed to tax my driving skills to the extreme and got myself to the quest platform (forget the anomaly!)... and ran out of the gaming time.

Well, at least I have helped those music-loving cockroaches.

Last night Kevin finally got the Quarians and the Geth to stop squabbling and now both of them are helping out against the Reapers.  This morning started the campaign to take back Omega with Aria.  Will most likely finish that one off tomorrow night.  I will probably be too tired tonight after work to play, and I work all day tomorrow but I should have time afterwards.

Tonight Emma did some side missions:

Spoiler
  • The abandoned mine is always fun with shockwave
  • Saving the Quarian is a nice touch, especially after Tali's loyalty mission. Does beg the question why the flotilla doesn't go look for them though
  • The timer on the missile mission means you can't save, which is really annoying when you keep dying whilst posing screenshots as you have to keep replaying the whole level
  • Taking Tali and Jack against heavily armoured robots basically means you solo it, as they die within about 5 seconds. Still, it's not like it is particularly hard anyway
  • These side missions are fun, helping to build the galaxy. Much better than the recycled MP maps in ME3 anyway, as they feel like little vignettes

Right, Reaper IFF next.

I've been trying the mirror match at the Armax Arsenal Arena but cannot beat it. This might be the only challenge in the whole series I cannot beat. How do people beat it? It's so unbalanced. Ex: The vanguard opponent can repeatedly use nova.

I'm playing on hardcore with a soldier: Frank Castle Shepard, a renegade who tends to execute people who do bad things (like the Punisher).

Weapons:

Black Widow V

Claymore V

Typhoon V

Locust V (never use)

Executor Pistol V (never use)

Bonus power: Fortification

Obviously, at -200% recharge speed, I can almost never use adrenaline rush.

Overall, the soldier is very fun to play, and with the above weaponry, just might be the most bad-ass class in ME3. The only class that I feel might actually be better though is the sentinel due to the tech armor/fortification combo.

Try to get your recharge speed to at least +100, ideally +200, spam ARush and Concussive Shot, amplified with your ammo powers; Cryo or Incendiary are best for this I think. Have a squadmate who has powers to burn or freeze enemies so you can combo with your Concussive Shot.

That means of course sacrificing some weapons, but I feel that you never really need more than one or two anyway with the power combo system in ME3. For my Adept I only had an Assault Rifle, which let me spam powers over and over. You should have the Lancer already which requires no ammo, this might be an option.

I'm sure some of the guys in here can give you much better advice, so I'm gonna shut up now ^_^

Maxine Shepard continued to do some side missions...

Hey there. Remember those Cerberus guys? We traveled to Nepheron, where a main base was located. Destroying this facility was a major success. It's a good feeling that part of the galaxy is a little safer. (If only she knew )

We also managed to solve a hairy situation with no casualties. A man called Toombs had been killing Alliance scientists. We found out why and I could understand him a little better, given Cerberus was involved again, but I could convince him to lower his weapon and let the Alliance take in the scientist. I hope Toombs will get better, he's been through some rough things...

Later on we checked out some distress call, but it was an Ambush set up by the geth. No problem for us there though.

I also helped Garrus with a thing from his past. We talked and he told me about some creepy geneticist that harvested organs from people. Have you EVER heard of something like that? Unbelievable. Anyway, I really wanted to arrest this guy, and we found him on a ship. But he wouldn't just let us take him in, so now he's dead.

Oh, and can you believe it, Kaidan was jealous because I talked to Liara!! Geez. I didn't do anything with Liara, we just had friendly conversation. He let slip he's interested in an actual relationship, but it was just for fun... I thought for him it was the same. Oh well. He's boring anyway. Though he was right about Liara being interested in me. I still think that this has to do with the beacon rather than with me really, even though she says otherwise. Anyway, we're getting ready to touch down on Virmire, let's see what the salarian team found out about Saren... if they actually did. Laters.

Piiics:

First time I leave Noveria for last, gonna be interesting how it plays out!

I once tried to beat the Mirror Match on Insanity with all classes (YouTube playlist here). I took me almost an hour and half -- almost 90 minutes -- before I beat it as a Soldier. In the end I just gave up trying to beat it legitimately and cheesed it. I used the Lancer V with Squad incendiary Ammo and Explosive Burst, and equipped Garrus and James with Typhoons. The Typhoon is overpowered on squadmates to the point you can let your squadmates do all of the work. (I used Fortification as my bonus power.) I would feel shame, but I was extremely frustrated after an hour of failing.

I had the easiest time beating the Mirror Match with the Vanguard and Sentinel. If I recall, I died a lot as the Infiltrator, but still beat it in a good time (less than 30 minutes) so i was not too frustrated. I had to cheese it with Soldier and Adept. Engineer took me about 90 minutes to finally beat it, but I beat it legitimately.

Vanguard clone is the toughest, followed by the Engineer.

Adept, Sentinel, and Soldier are all essentially the same: they each have a grenade and a projectile attack. But the Adept does have a Hurricane which makes the Adept slightly more dangerous. I forget what the Sentinel has for a weapon. I think it has a Valkyrie? The Valkyrie is less dangerous than the Hurricane.

Infiltrator is a bit of a joke.
