My first playthrough was as a warrior, but as soon as I realized that I can't open locks and chests as a warrior, and that needing to bring a rogue with me limited my party choices; and as soon as I realized that I could play a rogue myself and still inflict lots of damage while using Alistair as my warrior (a party member that I always want to have with me no matter what), I decided that there was little utility to me continuing to play the warrior. I get my warrior fix from Alistair.

So, I think I've played through about 8 times and I've only once played as a warrior. I think it would be more likely for me to play as a warrior and forego the lock/chest issue if there were some special quests or something wholly dependent upon being a warrior, like the rogue quests.

This is all prefaced by the caveat that I have a tendency to play on the casual setting, so I haven't needed to make a determination that I needed to play a warrior to get through the combat. My rogue can pretty much kill with one or two stabbity stabs.

Talking about my use of Alistair as a warrior: I always max out the champion line, and I've come to really appreciate the Templar line and the fun use of holy smite. I've never been tempted to turn Alistair into a two-handed warrior, or a dual weapon warrior; he looks so cute with his shield, lol. This means that since I don't play a warrior myself, I've never really tried to make a dual weapon warrior, but I think I have enough experience with the two-handed warrior through Sten and Oghren to say that the two-handed is a bit useless. I remember once being in a battle where all I had was Sten left and I was shocked at how terrible his skills were. Took me forever to get out of the battle using him.

In any event, I like the warrior as I play the class through Alistair. I love all the shield skills as they are very useful in battle. War cry is great. Overall, warrior is a win, even though I don't slect the class for the PC.

I'm a melee gal at heart. First in, last out, toe to toe, sweat and blood and guts -- it's just a lot more appealing than hiding in the background wiggling one's fingers or shooting toothpicks. In particular, I enjoy "tanking" i.e. protecting my companions and the sheer courage and fortitude of literally standing between them and death. So the choice for my "canon" character was easy.

I like that, unlike many older games, warriors actually get something to do besides autoattack. The basic idea of a (slowly) regenerating stamina pool to fuel their abilities is a good one. In practice, though, there are two problems.

1) The stamina pool is too small.
2) There is no way to replenish it at will.

Now these issues alone are not necessarily a bad thing, since they require you to weigh your choices of when and how to use your powers. The real problem is the mage class, which can focus on Willpower as its secondary stat and has essentially unlimited mana via -- supposedly very rare -- lyrium potions. The result is that a mage (already a very powerful and versatile class) can cast all day long, limited only by cooldowns, while a warrior/rogue runs dry very quickly. That disparity is a big mistake IMO and should be remedied ASAP -- and it is especially baffling since the little browser game has stamina poultices. So why does the "real" game not have them? I would strongly suggest implementing them, or getting rid of lyrium potions.

I like the animations for sword & board combat, the shield punches and killing blows are fun to watch. Dual-wielding is okay. Archery is boring to watch but what can one expect ftom that? It's not nearly as dynamic as melee after all. Two-handed weapons through are way too slow and ponderous, which makes the style very boring to watch and also presents the known problem of reducing your output if you activate abilities in a "wrong" moment. That too should be fixed, for all combat styles.

Another quibble from the POV of a "tank" is that Constitution should matter more. Boosting Strength, Dexterity, Cunning or Magic can be a no-brainer and must-have depending on what you play, but the ready availability of healing spells and potions plus the small gain from investing points means a tank does not really feel as "tough" compared to other classes as it "should" be.

  • What are your favorite Warrior specializations? What are your least favorite?

Champion wins by virtue of having two useful abilities, and fitting in with my preferred playstyle.

Templar comes in second for the fun Holy Smite (though as has been said, it is sadly outclassed by mage abilities). The other talents are very disappointing. Casters are almost always killed first or incapacitated until I can kill them at my leisure, so Righteous Strike is quite useless. Cleanse Area was a talent I was very much looking forward to as a debuff-remover, but it never seemed to work. Mental Fortress is okay on principle, but mental resistance rolls are rare compared to physical ones.

Berserker leaves me cold, mainly because of the nuisance of having to turn it back on every three steps in some areas.

Reaver I haven't even unlocked because I don't play "evil".

I'm not impressed with specializations overall. Most are very "meh" and it does not help that there are zero repercussions in terms of NPC reactions (lack of consequences is a general issue I have with this game). The big exception is Arcane Warrior, which is really a sick joke. A specialization from one class should never beat the living crap out of an entirely different class and essentially make that class obsolete. Was it not stated sometime before release there would NOT be an uber mage-melee hybrid in this game?

  • What are your favorite Warrior talent trees? What are your least favorite?

Weapon & shield wins out purely based on personal playstyley, followed by two weapons, then archery, then two-handed weapons. In terms of the best design, though, I'd have to give the nod to dual weapons.

I really wanted to like the two-handed style and play a dwarf pasting darkspawn with a nice big axe. But the combination of being boring to watch and what feels like an uninspired tree killed that plan pretty quickly. It feels as if mage spells, dual-wielding and some of the rogue-only talents got most of the creativity, while sword & board and two-handers were left in the dust. I still like the sword & board style best simply since it's my personal preference, but along with two-handers it suffers from the "pick up a talent with various drawbacks and spend several more points on reducing them" syndrome which other trees do not. The style could also use a little AoE to make it less reliant on other trees for holding threat on multiple enemies. Lastly, does it really need three very similar talents in the form of Shield Defense, Shield Wall and Shield Cover? Having one that is improved by subsequent talents and freeing the other slots for more offensive abilities would be more fun.

I just wanted to say that I agree with every point in this post. Please add all of these points to my comments and you'll have the entirety of my opinion on this Warrior issue. :)

I like the fact that they can both take punishment and dish it out. They have great defensive capabilities and some pretty good offence too when spec’d correctly. Warriors can control a battlefield to an extent with taunt, but I don’t think taunt is enough. It would have been nice if Warriors were given a ranged single target taunt as well as the AoE shout. Massive armours, however, look great – and there’s nothing quite as cool as a Dual Wielding Dwarven Berserker.

The only thing that really stands out for me with Warriors is how few abilites they get in comparison with a Mage. Mages have so many different things they can throw out for all different occasions - they're like the Swiss Army Knife of Dragon Age. Warriors, if you're a Sword and Shield warrior for example, get four abilities and a taunt. It's a bit underwhelming at times and often you resort to just auto-attacking in combat; it can be incredibly dull.

Victor Wachter wrote...

  • Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Warrior?

The specialisations when compared to a Rogue are very weak. There is nothing overpowered about a warrior, except maybe a Champion / Templar Sword and Shield build, which is basically indestructible. The combination of Holy Smite for stuns, Champions’ Shout for AoE knock downs, Shield Bash/Overpower//Shield Pummel for stuns and knockbacks, and the sheer damage mitigation of massive armour makes them incredibly stalwart – but I guess that’s the point.

Victor Wachter wrote...

Favourite specialisation for a Warrior would have to be Champion; simply because of its utility. AoE buffs + AoE Debuffs and an AoE knockback? Yes please. Be it for a tanking or a DPS warrior, it’s a good choice.

My least favourite would be Reaver; to be blunt, it’s crap. Devour hardly ever works in combat due to loot lag on corpses, Aura of Pain hurts you as much as it hurts others and Blood Frenzy is bad because you have to be almost dead for it to be worth anything. The only thing Reaver has going for it is Frightening Appearance – the stun is good; but the passive threat generation really isn’t needed. Tanks don’t have any trouble holding agro anyway. All in all, Reaver is just a waste of a specialisation point.

Victor Wachter wrote...

  • What are your favorite Warrior talent trees? What are your least favorite?

Favourite warrior tree is a tough one. Warriors have two purposes in Dragon Age – DPS or Tanking. Sword and Shield is brilliant for tanking. Absolutely no complaints for that tree what-so-ever. Sword and Sheild warriors have a few abilities up their sleeve to make combat somewhat interesting and they can also do a decent amount of damage.

Dual Wielding is great for DPS, but as others have said, a Dual Wielding warrior is just a Rogue who can’t backstab, lacerate, get auto-crits on stunned targets, stealth, pick locks and/or disarm traps. Still, a Dual Wielding warrior is a damn sight better at DPS than what a Two-Handed warrior is, which brings me to the last point….

…least favourite talent tree; Two-Handed. The abilities two-handed warriors get aren’t bad, they’re just lack lustre compared to the other two talent trees. Combine the ho-hum abilities of a two-handed warrior with their god awful attack speed and you really have some groan worthy combat. Their upfront damage is good when you actually hit something, but it’s just so far behind a dual-wield warrior it’s almost a joke. A Dual Wield warrior can kill a target before a two-handed warrior can get off a single swing – it’s pathetic. They don’t have the damage mitigation a sword and shield warrior does, and they can’t do the damage a dual-wield warrior can; so the question I always ask myself is: What exactly are they good for?

One last thing I’d like to add about the two-handed warrior talent tree is the actual stance itself of a two-handed warrior. It’s bizarre. Despite my military and policing career, I have a degree in History and, being the massive nerd I am, I take an interest in the history of warfare. 15th century longsword or broadsword techniques include the Nebenhut, which is what is always used in Dragon Age, however it was only one of the 5 major stances that were commonly used. I understand this was probably a time issue on the animation departments’ part, but to me, it just doesn’t look right – switching it up from Ochs to Pflug might have been a better option. Anyway, long story short; two-handed animations rub me the wrong way. The base speed is comically incorrect and the default stance that everyone uses in Dragon Age, to me, is odd.

Over all I think the Warrior is a great class. The Rogue is more fun with its positional attacks, backstabbery and stealth, and the Mage has an insane arsenal up its sleeve for any situation – but the Warrior, to me, seems like a solid enjoyable class. The warrior class is the class I always come back to and it's the one I feel most at home playing.

Thanks for listening.

- Stamina depending on willpower instead of constitution. It would make a lot more sense if the use of warrior, rogue (and their specializations) and weapon talents would depend on physical fitness (constitution) rather than mental fitness (willpower). It would also bring warriors closer to mages in terms of power since they would then be only dependent on 3 stats (strength, dexterity and constitution) instead of 4 as they are now (since now they are dependendent on willpower as well).

- Constitution should also offer slightly more HP/ point spent, 5 is just not enough. Maybe 7 or 8.

I think that Stamina should be (50% Will + %50 Con) * (class level stamina increase), and health, Con * (class level increase). I think having Constitution control both stamina and health entirely might be a little unbalancing. This would give warriors +6 health and +5 stamina per point (and rogues, +5 health and +4 stamina)

- Berserk: instead of making this a straight +8 damage per blow (I think that's how it works now?), the amount of damage should vary with the weapon you're using. A two-hander for example should receive more than 8 damage each blow while someone dual-wielding 2 daggers should receive a lot less.

How about making the base weapon damage the berserker bonus? This would make daggers do +(4-6.2) damage, longswords +(7-11.2) and greatswords, +(11-17.6)  (tier 1-7).

This is something I forgot to include in my post as it really doesn't have to do with the Warrior class at all; this is a Mage issue, but I agree completely. Hopefully a few people will address this when the time comes for the Mage discussion.

What do you like and dislike about the Warrior?

Like: Hacking, smashing, slicing, stabbing and piercing enemies with all the various weapons in the game and having skills to use them all
Dislike: No polearm option, can't think of much else at moment

Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Warrior?

Nothing that I can think of, I think people whom are claiming 2H is underpowered/slow clearly just don't know how to play as one. I have had great fun with them just as I have the other weapons.

What are your favorite Warrior specializations? What are your least favorite?

As said in the poll, favourite is Reaver, least favourite is Bezerker, though this is more from a RP stance, although I do think the Rever specs are a bit better too

What are your favorite Warrior talent trees? What are your least favorite?

Hmm hard to say really, I think they are all pretty useful depending on the type of warrior played.

A few more ideas:

Dislike about warrior:

Lack of diversity. A mage can pick some healing and some debuff.. or all aoe.. or all cc.. or some cc and some heal and still be effective with a few key skills, using all spells they got.

A warrior on the other hand, is limited. It's either a 2wielder, 2hander or a S+S. If he's S+S, he's 90% a tank. Just... too solid.

I think it's also because Dragon Age emphasized group roles too much for a single player game.

What do you like and dislike about the Warrior? Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Warrior?

Like: Massive Armor looks good. Well it looks a lot better then light armor that rogues wear. Even though I'd like more variety and the ability to tweak them a bit, especially making different items match with each other, still...heavier armor looks feels like a plus to playing a warrior.

I might be against the current here, but even though I think that there is still a lot of tweaking and balancing that could go into the warrior talent tree, I think the 3 different types of warrior are actually well represented. As far as talents go anyway.

Dislike: Like rogues, warriors are at a very large disavantage against mages when it comes to stat allocation. Warriors need Str, Dex, Con and Will. While mages only require Will and Magic. There is a lot of argueing that you can actually play just pumping Dex or Str or whatever, either way melee classes needing far more stats then mages is a bit unfair.

Most bosses are very annoying to fight as melee. Almost every fight is less anoying if you fight from range. Too many knock downs, too many sweep attacks. Please don't think I want the game to be easier, it is already easy as it is. But there is a very significant bias in fights towards being at range.

Warriors, melee in general, require way more micro-management then ranged. While I can understand that there is only so much the AI can do about positioning itself, there is still a few tweaks that could be done to tactics to lessen melee's micro-management problems.

Ex: When set to hold their place and ordered to attack someone melee will move to attack but after the first attack if the enemy moves they won't follow. That forces me to keep pausing the game to tell melee to attack again everytime they get knock down, pushed back or the enemy just moves and we all know that happens ALL THE TIME.

Ex2: The way 2h warriors are setup right now forces us to micro them to hell and back if we want them to be able to do damage at all.

Ex3: There is no way to make your melee automatically use a poison unless you tell them to do it all the time using the "Self" command. We need to be able to tell our characters to use poisons using the "Enemy" command.

Ex4: Taunt is rather annoying to setup in tactics. It needs to cover larger areas or we need to be able to tell the tank to taunt that specific mob that is attacking his ally. The whole "if your friend is being attacked then taunt" doesn't work, more often then not he is too far away for the taunt to actually do anything.

Suggestions that would help solve some of these micro-management problems:
If I tell my character to attack someone he should remember that even after he actually makes that first attack. If he gets knocked away, get up and go back to attacking.
Give me a way to tell my characters to use poisons if the enemy is a boss, for example.
Please, please give us a way to queu up actions. That alone would improve combat 100%
Either make Taunt focus on a larger area or give us a better way to set a tank to taunt a mob that is attacking someone.

What are your favorite Warrior specializations? What are your least favorite?

Reaver is most definetly lacking in all aspects. For a specialization that appeals to the "evil" characters when role-playing it certainly doesn't make them more fearsome at all. Now that just might be balancing issues with combat in general but anywa, Reaver is definetly lacking.
To a slighter degree Beserker is always somewhat lacking. Again it just might be that combat needs balancing.
Templar and Champion are ...sort of OK. All warrior specializations are in general just "meh".

What are your favorite Warrior talent trees? What are your least favorite?

2H needs a bit of work. First the way combat plays out right now makes the 2H warrior a micro-management hell. Swing times should not reset and they could definetly use a bit more speed on their swings. 2H weapons could hit more then 1 mob if standing too close, that would make sense and add a bit of utility to the 2H warrior.

Most abilities don't scale to the use of a slow 2H weapon. A lot of abilities give bonuses per hit witch makes the faster hitter a lot better then the slow one. Abilities that give bonuses for killing also add more to faster hitters. Abilities need to scale to watever weapon the person is using. Make Death Blow, for example, give stamina back based on the damage done and not on the killing blow.

On the same note, it is so repetitive that in every single game the 2H warrior gets the shaft because devs don't make 2H comparable to using 2 weapons or a weapon and a shield. In every game we always see the same thing. Using 2 weapons is always better because it gives you more bonuses.
2H weapons should not only hit harder but the bonuses should be comparable to using 2 weapons. 2H weapons should allow more rune slots for example, it is totally unfair that they don't.

On the same note, shields need to be allowed rune slots. There is also a dire need for better understanding of shield mechanics and better shields in the game. Both models and actual shield drops that we can use.

>What do you like and dislike about the Warrior?

I like that its role is clearly defined. The different play styles are fairly clearly laid out, with easy to understand abilities. There is one exception, though. It is not clear what the difference is between the 2-handed and 2 weapons styles from a gameplay perspective. They use different stats and different weapons, but they seem to play the same and in terms of damage output and style it's not clear where the differences lie.

One alternative may be to have a somewhat linear improvements for 2-handed weapons and then have more of a curve for dual wielders.

>Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Warrior?

Taunt plus force field and similar combinations are a bit overpowered and, well, strange. I was playing last night and a boss baddie kept swinging away at my invincible (and immobile) tank while my rogue kept stabbing her in the back until she died. It made an apparently impossible fight really easy and made the AI look dumb.

Also, a fighter should appreciably deal more damage than a dual wielding rogue, given that warriors do one thing and rogues do so much more.

>What are your favorite Warrior specializations? What are your least favorite?

I never seem to have problems with mages and so, the templar's abilities seem like a bit of a waste. I really like the berserker and the reaver from a roleplaying standpoint. I actually avoided taking the reaver specialization for my warrior because they seemed like such jerks and usually I'm a bit of a powergamer.

What are your favorite Warrior talent trees? What are your least favorite?

My favorite is probably the one leading up to critical strike. They're all useful, different and I was eager to try each one as I unlocked it.

My least favorite is likely the one leading up to Destroyer (despite the awesome "Destroyer" name). I never really got the sense that they did anything.

I should add that I love the 2-handed animations, including the somewhat slow swing speed. I have a dwarf with a two handed sword that's taller than him and the animation never gets old.

First of all:  These forums fail. I can't quote the OP without it sticking those black "list" dots after every press of the return key. Even if I quote then delete the entire post they're stuck there <_< So now I need two tabs open just to see the OP because you still don't have the ability on these forums to see the other posts as you reply.

1)

Like: They get uhm....they have....no. Nothing special about them at all.

Dislike: Total lack of talents, especially special moves to activate. My first character maxed the shield skill tree.

So I ended up with: One talent for defense (only one active at a time) and a few ways to bash things with a shield and....that's it. Threaten should have increased aggro with an AoE so I didn't have to spam Taunt to keep the aggro.

Lack of weapon variety.  Long Sword, Mace or axe in large or average size, plus daggers.

2)

Underpowered:

.Normal weapons, daggers due to faster strike and +dmg modifier stacking became much better to use, especially as a sword/shield warrior.

.Threaten.

.Archery, no rune slots, not enough special arrows, doesn't work with flame/cold weapons.

Overpowered:

.Nothing really, warriors are pretty generic DPS characters, nothing much special about them.

3)

Favourite specializations: None.
Least Favourite: All. 4 talents each only? Half of those not even active/used abilities? heh.

4)

Favourite: None
Least Favourite: All. They were all just lacking something. I wanted to see or feel that I was getting more powerful as I levelled up. I just didn't feel that.

That probably seems quite harsh, but after playing many RPGs that's just my opinion on how it felt to play a Warrior. Perhaps it's due to the enemies scaling with me. I don't feel special unlocking my new shield technique when the enemy automatically toughens up to make it just as boring as the shield technique I had before. The Specializations were stale and didn't add much to the game; most of the abilities they granted didn't seem to do much other than grant passive bonus' to old abilities, or others from the specialization, meaning you actually ended up with just one or two extra abilities from the already small list of 4.

edit: Just as an example of why I felt it was lacking: Ever play Hellgate London? Well in that I could spin with my shield, hit everyone around me, damaging, stunning them and possibly setting them on fire. Looked and felt powerful. There was also shield charging, which I guess would have looked like the Ogre attack, but would/should have scattered enemies like bowling pins. (L4D2 Charger style.)

Warriors need Str, Dex, Con and Will.

Not fully, Con is underpowered and you don't need put much points here because of this. S&S needs both Str and Dex but 2H needs only Str and only few Dex, when 2W or Archer needs Dex and only few Str. Additionaly Mage needs much more mana than any warrior need endurance. I feel this remark is coming from focusing only on S&S for warriors, as they require balance their skills. But 2H could focus on str (but perhaps also with a bit of con) and 2H&Archer on Dex.

I don't think S&S needs complain too much about their requirement to put points everywhere, they have already plenty bonus, like str multiplied by two for the multiple shield attacks they get. But I won't deny there's something unfair anyway because the balance of the game makes defense very important and this requires dex, Con is underpowered but it's more difficult for a warrior to put no points here. For the will I consider mage needs much more but the warrior still need points here.

To balance a bit things, con should bring a bit more HP, 7 seems a good idea, and warrior would take more profit of this than other classes because they tend get more damages. And warrior should have a skill giving some endurance for each con point above 10, a counter balance for the rogues skill allowing cun used as Str or for mage magic used as str. Another possible re balance would be to give warriors a skill increasing healing efficiency and even with a better bonus for potions.

The "holy warrior" aspect has always appealed to me, therefore i like to play with a templar/champion combination the most.

I also like swinging a big two handed weapon around, so naturally i prefer the two-handed warrior tree with my templar/champion.
I saw some comments earlier that the swing speed seems a bit low sometimes. The two-handed special abilities look just fine speed-wise, so especially when everything is on cooldown or i'm out of stamina, the autoattack speed seems painfully slow in comparison.
You'd think that especially at higher levels with massive strength and magical armor/weapons warriors would be able to swing their big weapons around with a bit more finesse. Perhaps somekind of correlation with higher strength=slightly faster attack speed would be acceptable?

In the end the swing speed isn't a huge concern though, otherwise i'm perfectly happy smiting evil in the name of goodness. :innocent:

Oh, and some more templar themed armors or armor sets would be awesome. I was very tempted to wear the knight-commander plate throughout the whole game even over significantly better options, simply because i liked the looks so much. :)

What do you like and dislike about the Warrior?

This might sound silly, but what I disliked was that my tank always got the finishing moves on all the big encounters where as my own Two-Hander Sword spec never got them.
Other than that, I really enjoyed playing warrior more than I usually do in RPGs, I tend to favor the caster classes but Dragon Age really gave a good gaming experience as warrior. I think you hit a good balance between damage and crowd control abilities.

Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Warrior?

Too early for me to tell, have not played enough to make a valid opinion on this.

What are your favorite Warrior specializations? What are your least favorite?

Favorites: Templar - I liked the smite
Least favorite; Reaver - It just doesn't appeal to me.

What are your favorite Warrior talent trees? What are your least favorite?

Favorites
Two-Hander: Two-Handed Sweep awesome crowd control and AoE.
SnS: Assault made my tank feel powerful :)
Dual: Haven't played yet so no opinion

Least favorite
Two-Hander: Powerful Swings, dunno if I'm right but I got the feeling I did less damage overall in a fight while using this
SnS: Shield Cover - I almost never used it
Dual: Haven't played yet so no opinion

Extra

Something that could be interesting for future would be to have something more along the lines of a Bastard Sword, the 1,5 hander as it is so nicely called in BG and seen more as a option for 1-hand sword damage dealing instead of the must go sword and tank way of gaming the talents forces you to. A bit quick more finesse way of fighting than the 2-hander but not the dual wielding type of fighting. Which I never really cared much for I must say I find it a bit silly wielding two long swords it seems very impractical.

What do you like and dislike about the Warrior?
I like a lot of their passive skills that increase damage. I dislike that they do share 2 skill sets with Rogues.

Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Warrior?
I felt that 2H Warrior was underpowered, if the attack speed was increased or if they did more damage per hit (or both) I think It'd help even it out.

What are your favorite Warrior specializations? What are your least favorite?
I loved Champion the most. I disliked Reaver because only the first few skills actually helped me. ._.

What are your favorite Warrior talent trees? What are your least favorite?
I loved the duel weapon tree, its awsome. Whenever I play as a Warrior or Rogue I nearly always go with it. My least favorite was the 2H weapon skill trees. ._.

What do you like and dislike about the Warrior?

Like: They can actually use and do most of the stuff in the game. Namely, with warriors you can give them Medium-Massive armour with no problems and equip them with pretty much any type of weapon - this is due to them being focused on strength mainly. This is unlike rogues who are generally restricted to light armour, which their are too few good sets of, and daggers/bows.

Dislike: They seem to be a bit dull to play as. I think this because they have nothing that really gives them an edge over other classes - rogues have the ability to backstab and can fight well at a range and mages have the ability to fight at a range and thier attacks have a huge range of effects. Warriors can basically just hack-n-slash and that's it.

Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Warrior?

Underpowered: Considering they are suppossed to be the strongest fighters they have very few abilities that reflect this. Rogues and Mages have talents/spells that can do easily just as much damage as warrior.

Overpowered: They have too much equipment devoted to them. They can equip pretty much every piece of armour, of which their are many good sets, unlike rogues which are restricted to about 2 decent setsof light armour. There are also many unique greatswords and longswords compared to daggers, again, seeming unfair on rogues.

What are your favorite Warrior specializations? What are your least favorite?

Favourite: Well... none! The most useful one is definately champion, even so I wouldn't want to play as one - in all my playthroughs I've given my warriors specialisations and almost never have I made them learn the talents in their trees. I use them purely for stat boosts

Least Favourite: Even though I dislike them all, my least favourite is definately templar. Templars solve no purpose outside of the broken circle quest - they are anti-mages (and not very well actually) and their are few mages outside of this quest - making them useless.

What are your favorite Warrior talent trees? What are your least favorite?

Favourite: Two-Handed Tree. The passive abilities are immensely useful, the sustained are okay, particuarly indomitable. There are plently of activated ones too, all of which are good. Two-Handed is by far the best in terms of abilities, the problem is that two-handed weapons are swung too slow in ordinary attacks.

Least Favourite: Not counting archer/dual weapon which seems pointless for warriors it has to be sword and shield. Quite simply, there aren't enough attack skills in this tree and there are way too many passive. A lot of these passive abilities simply boost the effects of sustained skills which are equally useless - the passive abilites don't tend to affect the warrior themselves.

Honestly I just don't think the Warrior stands out. Make a Rogue instead. You could always just put points into Cunning and Dexterity. You can pick locks and eventually you get a passive ability that lets Cunning replace strength when doing damage in battle.

The warriors calss abilities themselves dont really stand out for me either. I never put any points ino them. Also I feel the Warrior doesnt have anything to differentiate him from other classes. Yes they use Sword and Shield and Two handed fighting, but they require you to either, A) place points evenly amongst Dexterity and Strenght or B) place points into Strength.

As a class the Warrior can easily just beef up and charge the enemy but that isnt something I WANT to do. I'd like something that makes him radically different to the Rogue.

Maybe I'm being petty, my Warrior is a Tank and yes, he dishes out a TON of damage and can take just as much. However he's toos susceptibel to magic, even as a Templar, mages just paralyze me or hit me with an Are effect and thats it, my Warrior is at a disadvantage. You could counter this by saying I should use my Mage or a Rogue to take out the Opposing Mage, but shouldn't my warrior be able to fend for himself?

Also, the Specalisations could do with some revision. Templar and Reaver are good, I like 'em. However I would probably change the CDhampion for a Paladin-esque style class, essentially, I would be able to use Stamina and make myself immune to magics such as paralyse, or be unaffected by Area attacks.

Berserker seems redunatn to me, I activate it and waste stamina to do a little extra damage that at high leels, I really dont need to be honest.

I know enemies tend to attack the strongest, best armed member of a team. Howevr I'd like the ability to immediately force all opponents to target my Warrior, that means I could maneuver my party members, perform backstabs  with my rogues. Of course, I'd make the Warrior immune to any healing effects whilst using the Ability-to stop people healing him constantly and making everyone else invisble indefinetely.

Like; Powerful the talent tree, its... powerful. Two-hander great weapon tree, very little wasted talents! lastly... starfang two hander.... looks too neat to ever make it into a one hander on any play through regardless of my class.
Dislike; no real "amazing" specs for Damage dealing; Examples Assassin, Duelist, and Bard, none of these have wasted points while all of the warrior ones do.

Overpowered; not really over powerd but... never being able to be knocked down in two out of four weapon talent trees, love it
Underpowered; wtb lockpicking/smashing skill for exp, a second "taunt" (single target is fine similar to shales)

Fav spec; Champion or Berserker, Good movepool and sustained abilites that get better with more skills.
Least fave; Templar, Magic.... for spec attribute points..... GTFO

Fav talent tree; Powerful>threaten>bravery>death blow, all great in their own ways
Least fav; Precise strke>taunt>disengage>Perfect striking, one of the most used abilities in this game needs a cooler tree

First off, thanks for asking these questions.  Many of my reservations about the warrior relate to armour.

What do you like and dislike about the Warrior?

I generally like the warrior, wearing massive armour has a nice feel to it.  I like the fact that shields are really important (or can be) in combat.
  • I dislike the fact that there isn't enough real difference between warriors and rogues, and what difference there is seems pretty artificial.
  • I also dislike the fact that too many abilities really seem to duplicate each other - there seem to be two main mechanisms, knockdown and stun (and knockback) that get recycled in the weapon paths.  These make sense as core abilities but you could probably separate them from the weapon paths in some way.
  • I'd like to see more abilities that are (a) defensive and (B) tied to armour use.  Ideally I think armour use should be a talent path, and should come with its own defensive abilities (resistance to knockdown for example).
  • I don't like the different shield defensive abilities and would like to see them rolled into one ability that improves as other abilities are gained.
  • Ideally I'd prefer each of the three weapon talent areas to consist of at most two paths each (rather than three), allowing more warrior and rogue specific paths and armour paths to be developed.
Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Warrior?
Not particularly although the lack of anything approaching a proper manual makes this way too hard to figure out.  I would like a greater resistance to knockdown and similar things.  I'd love a talent path that provides resistance to being frozen, stunned, knocked down and so on.

What are your favorite Warrior specializations? What are your least favorite?
Champion probably my favorite, although to be fair I don't feel that I've tried them all out to really give an informed answer.

What are your favorite Warrior talent trees? What are your least favorite?
Favorite is probably sword and shield, and least favorite two handedI do like the two weapon path but prefer it for rogues.

Other Comments
  • FWIW if it was my rule set I think I would have done the weapon talents quite differently to try and avoid some of the more artificial seeming parts of it (you can feint with any of the the styles for example), some of the repetition of similar abilities and some more defensive abilities.
  • I'd also love to see the armour reworked in the game.  I don't like the fact that massive and light seem to be the only two reasonable choices.  I'd also like massive armour to have more penalties that can be offset by choosing related talents.
  • My biggest complaint with armour is that light armour gets too good - the armour rating of a good (or even decent) set of light armour is better than the majority of medium armours for example.

What do you like and dislike about the Warrior?

What are your favorite Warrior specializations? What are your least favorite?

What are your favorite Warrior talent trees? What are your least favorite?

Warrior was my first play through and I enjoyed the class for the most part - 2h weapon build.
I want to try it again and do some things differently.  (Armor specifically and specialization too)
As an aside; I would have liked to have Dog be a pet rather than a full party member as he seems underpowered compared to others, even the golem.

I didn't really feel that anything was especially under- or over- powered.

I still have to unlock the reaver specialization and may try it if I re-do the playthrough but it didn't really seem to fit my character(s) so far.  I didn't think there was a very good specialization for a dps warrior, at least compared to the 2 choices for tank - templar and champion, but not really sure.

I haven't done a dual-weapon warrior so can't speak to that.  The main warrior talent tree seems more suited for the weapon-and- shield warrior which I am just starting now - which is where I think a more suitable 2h weapon (duelist type maybe?) specialization would come into play.

Overall I enjoy the class and am looking forward to replaying with it as well.

What do you like and dislike about the Warrior?

I like the 'feel' of the class. You really do feel like a tough bastard when playing as a warrior. I love Sword & Board and tanking in this game. Each offensive ablity in that tree feels unique (I love that meaty feel of shield bash) however I do think that maybe Overpower could hit faster. Maybe it could be three rapid hits with the knockdown still intact each hit does less than normal damage (like Assualt) but causes double threat. You would have to re-jig Assualt though so they aren't to alike (maybe the first two hits do reduced damge, the third does normal damage and the fourth is a crit).

I don't agree with the comments that duel wielding warrior is just a nerfed rogue. First off I think only warriors take dual weapon Mastery since rogues should really be more intrested in increaseing there back stabbing speed and using two swords does nerf your speed. Overall I think dual weilding warriors are fine. Personally I think Warriros should be more about using combat ablites while rogues should be more focused on back stabing and combat postion and for the most part they are however if you make a dagger Warrior then add Momentum+Haste+Precise Stricking you become a wood chiper becasue of how fast you attack. I found with this set up that using my talents nerfed my dps so much I just auto attacked from behind and at the point I really was a rogue in plate.

Archery is pretty fun once you have both Arrow of Slaying and Deathblow because you can then use the former with reckless abandon. Specializations is the weakness of the warrior archer. Rogue archers can add nifty support ablities through there specializations but warrior archers can only offer pure dps. I ended up taking Champion/Templar on my warrior archer. Champion was taking purely for the attack bonus and Templar for the ranged Aoe knockdown.

I'll add my voice to the choir of two handed warriors attack to slowly. I think 2handers need there own version of momentum. Also work should be done on the damage talents. Currently Sunder Arms and Sunder Armor provide more dps than Mighty Blow And Critical Strike since the former two hit twice. The two hits combined do more damage than the single heavy hit of the latter two.

Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Warrior?

Nothing particularly overpowered. In terms of underpowered I do feel like reaver is junk and Archers aren't much use till the Arrow of Slaying and Deathblow combo opens up. Two Handed warriors also attack a little to slowly.

What are your favorite Warrior specializations? What are your least favorite?

In order from most favorite to least favorite
1. Beserker (but only for dps)
1. Champion (but only for tanks)
2. Templar
6. Reaver

The Cooldown on Beserk is too long. I don't mind having to turn it on for each fight (after all i would calm down at the end of a fight) but why do I have to wait 30 sceconds before I can "get really mad and kill things"? Do I need to ask a party memeber to kick me in the stones?

Templars have some nice utility to them draining mana and gaining mental resistance and such but really its Holy Smite that does it for me. Honestly its the Aoe Knockdown effect I'm most fond of. The tooltip could be clearer though. Indicating that Willpower is the stat that boasts its damage.

Champion I think is the better spec than Templar but I just like Templar more (call it irrational love). Rally is great for either tanks or dps but I always take Beserker first for my DPS warrior and by level 14 hit is not an issue. Also I've never really found a need for the personal range aoe knockdown of a champion. I'm content to let Alitstar And Oghren take Champion and get the Rally buff from them. I do take Champion first how ever on my tanks as I think it's a great tank spec. (More Defence? Yes please!)

Reaver on the other hand, urrgh. Only frightening apperance was something I found to be in anyway useful and it was limited at that. As for the other "talents", Devour? No tanks I've got potions and mages for that. Aura of Pain? 20 spirit damage to myself and enemies, wow, thats... thats crap. Blood Frenzy? Just no. First off the bonus of beserk and and Blood Frenzy will be fighting with each other due to the fact that the former adds a health regen bonus while the latter adds a nerf to health regen. And even at low health the Damage bonus is trivial.
Honestly I expected the talents to be more like the power of blood tree, sacrificing health for temporary passive buffs or for special attacks that use health instead of stamnia. I really think that  Reavers should be more like blood mages.

What are your favorite Warrior talent trees? What are your least favorite?

1. Weapon & Shield
2. Dual Weilding
3. Archer
3.5. Two Handed

Once I got the Arrow of Slaying and Deathblow combo I enjoyed being an warrior archer but honestly two handed just feels slow and ponderous. Thats not to say I didn't enjoy being a two handed warrior but I liked the other specs more. Also if I did want to play with two handed weapons I would just roll a two handed rogue (yes they do work, it's very back stab heavy with no aoe outside grenades but there is something very Samurai-ish about it. Also the two handed back stab animation is much quicker than the normal attack animations).

Absolutely great game guys. Stellar work.

I love the class, just finished the game with 2H build and started a DW build now. It's sick.
For The Awakening I would however like a useful second specialization, reaver and champion arent as nice as rogue's assassin and duelist. The Berserk should be modified to stay on when leaving combat.

My Favourite specializations are at the moment Berserker and Reaver, although Reaver is just the least bad of the others. The others just dont really contribute to DPS.
Also, if it would be possible to get rid of the initially learned shield slam or whatever that is, that'd be great.

I usually gravitate towards the warrior class for the main character, currently playing a 2H-specced on nightmare (first playthrough, have used a respec mod and used shield and sword spec for the first half of the game). Since such a large portion of the game is spent in tactical combat, I hope future development aims to enhance the combat system and provide for more varied challenges.

• Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Warrior?

- I wished warriors had some basic "hold the line" zone of control ability where you couldn't just run past them towards the mage/archers in the back without knocking them down or stunning them. One warrior should be able to control a small passage, two a medium room and all the way up to a line of darkspawn and wardens facing off - trying to breach the enemy line to get flanking attacks and opportunities to stab any crunchy ranged opponents in the back.

• What are your favorite Warrior specializations? What are your least favorite?

- Champion, and to a lesser degree Templar have been fun and useful. Haven't found a real need for Berserker, maybe with a sustained arc-attack talent? Would like to see deeper specialization talent trees.

• What are your favorite Warrior talent trees? What are your least favorite?

- I enjoy both 2-handed and sword and shield. Occasionally frustrated by the slow 2-h swing speed, would prefer greater auto-attack speed with a little bit less damage per hit and keeping the slow, heavy-hitting talents. I also miss some sort of AoE attack in the sword and shield-line.

I dislike that you have to start with Shield Bash. It is a wasted slot if you don't want to play a Weapon and Shield warrior.

1) I like that they can use sword and shield or two handed weapon abilities, unlike rogue. I dislike the fact that a misdirection hex, crushing prison, curse of mortality can take everything good of them away. Of course am not considering a templar with 100&% magic resistance...
2) Nothing seriously underpowered. Perhaps the small amount of hit rate at the beginning, but after a while, it gets off. Apart from this, maybe even the slow kills of a weapon and shield warrior.  Overpowered? Indomitable ability might be considered overpowered in certain occasions.
3) Favorite spec is probably the Berserker. Some of its abilities make the warrior seriously a threat in the battlefield. Least favorite is the Champion. I simply can't find any use of it.
4) Favorite talent trees are probably both dual wielding and two handed weapon trees. Least favorite... bows. Never actually used them with a warrior.

Hope this helps in anyway.
