Steve Cortez is entirely unlikable with no redeeming qualities to what small amount of character he has. He was poorly voice acted, had a terrible backstory, and served no purpose beyond another MM interest for Shepard. There isn't an iota of him that is even remotely interesting.
Every time I spoke with him, he was constantly playing the depressed gay guy card which I found to be an uniteresting and not very unique way to introduce a homosexual character. For me, he really brought the story down and I avoided speaking to him after my second Shepard.
Anyone else avoid him for similar reasons?
Note: I do see Steve Cortez as a missed oppurtunity. Bioware had the chance to introduce a relatable character who happened to be gay but it was squandered.
Steve Cortez is the sorriest excuse for a character to ever grace the Mass Effect series, brought ME3's story down a lot...

No really... Why the need to discuss this again only to find people who say "you're absolutely right"?

The "depressed gay guy" card? How often do you actually see that to constitute it as a "card"? If a character who's problem you're describing (which are purely optional and avoidable) are bringing the quality of the ENTIRE STORY down, then I think that's a "you" problem.

Yeah he really does suck. But Jacob holds the crown for that title. (Cortez and Allers tie as a close 2nd)

How was he poorly VA'd?
Worst ME characters;
1. Space Casper
2. Allers
3. Cereal Boy
4. Jacob
Cortez is fine.

He adds to his little bits in the missions, but I don't like him. I think his death works though, that recurring character dying in the finale thing that happens a lot. A few more dialogue options would probably have fixed him.

Are you serious? He was a nice guy who really grew on you as a friend throughout the story his voice actor was great and his character I thought was rather enjoyable. While not my favorite I thought he was really well done, coulda used some more dilogue and interactions.

Constantly the "depressed gay guy??"
Oh FFS. If he were grieving a parent rather than his husband, you'd be helpless to know he was even gay at all.
As for blaming someone for grieving the loss of a loved one, well, that speaks for itself. You, sir, are a tool.

I didn't see a problem with Cortez at all.. He's fine. as he is. Kai Leng, Diana Allers, and Glowboy though there are glaring problems with them.

I really liked him and thought his voice actor did a great job.
Really felt his detachment during the initial conversations with Shepard. I also felt that changing as he progressively came to terms with his grief.
Also, Steeeeeve!

Yeah so...if someone like Legion doesn't fuss about his orientation...it's pretty much a moot point.
It's the middle of the war, and he's still struggling with the loss of his marital partner. Wife, husband, what does it matter?
He was dedicated, he was skilled, he was sincere. He was damn good at what he did but he was never a hotshot about it. He was loyal, dependable, and real. He also kept his emotions in check pretty well all things considered. He has comments during and after most missions. He has an optional arc you choose to (or not to) explore.
He's a highly skilled and talend gay pilot in a day where no one gives a s--- who he dates, and he doesn't care if you don't care.
Problem?
