Steve Cortez is the sorriest excuse for a character to ever grace the Mass Effect series, brought ME3's story down a lot...

Cortez's voice actor did a great job though. Did not overact or underact in any scene.

Missed opportunity certainly found him likeable but worse than Allers & Jocob ? I think not.

If i offended anyone then i do apologise, As for being homophobic i can safely say im more offended by religion than i am of gays. I may not need to see gay parades every year as its basically old news...Doesnt mean id be a homophobe, But anyway upsetting/slandering gays and religion in one thread is enough for one day...

I dont really care for politically shoed-in characters, but I liked Cortez. He's the wheelman with a personality. My only beef is that he's the most unLatin latino ever. Blue eyes are wierd, and in contrast I can see why peeps would think Vega's a stereotype.

Cortez was good, I actually like most characters in 3, vega was great even without a femshep playthrough . Plus allers is ok when talking about her colony

"I hated him and his creepy gayness"

No, that's blatant homophobia. Also you will stop seeing parades when society starts reacting to the idea of a man having a husband the way they do in ME3. They don't.

@Theprotheans

The argument made is that hating gays because a gay man made a pass at you is ridiculous. He might have thought you looked like someone who might be interested. It's called trying to meet people, trying to find "the one".

Men do it all the time with women, but no one seems to have a problem with that.

It's not an issue of sexuality, it's just someone suspecting they might have a chance and you rejecting them and it gets uncomfortable.

Men can marry cant they? Doesnt get anymore accepted than that, Also interpret it however you want, Seems people like to be over analytical, I also think liara is creepy, and the hanar preaching religion in ME1 is creepy...

Problem is....I'm not a rapist.

Well you should be because they need some ridiculous argument in order to justify gay men forcing themselves on others.

Wait....why should I be a rapist?

Tbh, the first time I met Cortez, my first thought was, he has a very small voice. Compared to the booming tone's of Shepard and Wrex, or Garrus who who somehow pulls of dripping honey in your ear on the teeth of a bandsaw. Or Joker who just goes up and down the scale all the time. Or Vega who stands like a mighty oak, and deliver's his line's in the same way.

Cortez was a very unassuming character in my view. Didn't make make wave's. Only ever jumped a notch when he was in the pilot chair.

As for that cutout above of learning to live with that every day after fourteen? Wut?

It' sound's as if the character has wrapped herslef up in a protective cocoon of fear to constantly remind herself that any and every man around her is a potential enemy. And then projects that outlook on everyone around her..... to the point that she is now doing the same to a young boy impressionable boy.

And as for that last part. Sometimes, 'some' people do want you to hit on them, because some people can't muster up the courage, or figure out how to express the interest that they want company in their lives without coming across as one of those people who are intruding in the way described in that cutout.

It sounds like people need to redevelop their pickup and putdown talent's. Grud forbid, anyone should actually talk to another human being and discern if interest actually exists and then have the social fortitude to accept or reject it.

Um, no, in most places men cannot marry another man.

Same goes for women.

Heck in a lot of places you don't even get simple basic domesitc partnership benefits.

Not sure where you got that idea.

On a serious note, I dislike the fact that if you're nice to Cortez but don't want to initiate a romance, the only thing you can do is ogle the strippers. Some of my Paragon Sheps don't like that.

I got that point by you overanalyzing, Men can marry each other, Some even adopt children, It's accepted a hell ov alot nowadays so i think your issue is more about it needs to be accepted everywhere but thats not realistic, Many things arent accepted in different walks of life and gay marriages is no different, Certain religions arent accepted in places, An area in england( alum rock ) has a sign saying " no whites " past a certain time as asians/blacks live there predominantly...

He's still the only Normandy NPC (bar Joker, but that was one scene) to take up arms and fight alongside you and the team. That has to earn him some points even if you don't like his character.

And aside from that, he is really a genuinely nice guy. His banter with James, particularly when concerning a certain duo of IFVs we all know and love, ranges from hilarious to adorable. He's a great friend to Shepard and the rest of the crew.
Also, "depressed gay guy card"? He brings up his husband for all of 3 conversations, and two of them were just fleeting mentions. After the memorial scene, he never mentions Robert again.

I thought the same thing, so I looked it up on tvropes.org. Apparently, there's something called "gayngst".

However, pretty much anything you can imagine will have a page on TV Tropes, so that really doesn't count for anything. I don't think it's actually a card.

There are lots of people who didn't like Vega or Cortez but the beauty of both is that you can't judge them in a vacuum, they're a dialogue duo. Cortez and Vega have some of the funniest conversations in the game.

If he had lost his wife, nobody would be mentioning the, "depressed straight guy card".

Also, just because after a LOT of effort and a lot of heartache that the government is starting to get themselves moving with social issues.. It doesn't mean it's "accepted". Small instances where things aren't accepted vs. a society where it's common to still be discriminated against still is not fair. There's a lot of change and progress needed still. I mean, hell, the same goes for racial issues and we've been working on that for how long now?

A few basic rights tossed in the way of a population is progress, but it's not outright acceptance.

Again you try to tell me gay marriage is widely available, it's not. Not even domestic partnerships.

Maybe it's a regional/cultural differance...I live in the US. There's almost nowhere you can get either benefit here. Blacks have equal rights, women have equal rights, and both were oppressed before.

So yes, I can complain until I get equal rights as well. It's more accepted than it used to be, but not enough that we don't need to bring it up anymore.

There's no over-analyzation. You're uninformed and acting like you have deep unfounded dislike for gay people.

And it's not even fair to just have to settle for domestic partnerships. (And that's exactly what it is. Settling. The fact alone that this is an option rather than the hetero-automatic-marriage shows that there's singling out being done.) It's marriage. Marriage is defined by the people now. I mean, hell, people make such a mess of it these days and yet so long as it's a man and a woman, it's called marriage. So why not for a same sex couple? My fiance and I are atheist and we're getting married, so there goes their religious argument. There are couples out there that choose not to have children or can't have children while there are plenty of homosexual couples that have children with several different methods (ie: surrogacy, adoption, etc..) So there goes the breeding argument. But I digress. Sorry.

Come on i apologised if i offended and said i wasnt homophobic, You seem to skim read over my other points in saying liara was creepy aswell, and the hanar being creepy in ME1 with the religious speech, So your implying i have hate towards gays and i stated where i live its accepted so can only base it upon that.

Also did you compare gays being oppressed like black people? If you did then it isnt me who's uninformed.

The majority of the OP makes me wish I was illiterate.

The point was to say that your argument of it shouldn't be accepted just cause is a lousy argument. It's the same argument that's been used for decades.

And I read your other points, all I'm hearing is that you find anything creepy and unacceptable that doesn't agree with you.

I agree, they're pretty great together. I have a soft spot for good bromances (or sis?mances), they're so much rarer than good romances or rivalries.

On a related note, I know it's just a small thing, but I find it charming the way Steve calls James 'Mr. Vega'. It's probably just a professionalism thing, but it just stood out to me since most people don't bother with titles like that unless they're ranks.

No, we'd be calling it Carth Syndrome. At least to my knowledge Steve never tells romanced Shepard, "You remind me of Robert..."

I didn't like Cortez that much. I mean, why da heck would anyone want to hit on a widower? Other than that, he was fine; it was time we had some shuttle chatter. I grew more attatched to him as a character when I saw his scenes on Citadel. That scene where he grabs Shepard's hand is just so... Ahhh :D The feels, man!
I want more S/S exclusive scenes! I was disappointed with how Kaidan get copy-and-paste fshep scenes. I wanted a hot tub scene -.-
