Steve Cortez is the sorriest excuse for a character to ever grace the Mass Effect series, brought ME3's story down a lot...

I'm not saying he's bad, but the guy just isn't Joker.tevix wrote...

Hey, cortez is totally on joker's level. He outpiloted joker's own ship!
....Driven by a crappy pilot...but still! That deserves some credit!
I also loved the back and forth between vega and cortez. I liked to see that people interact without the almighty shepard around to approve conversation.
Finally, I don't hate jacob because he cheated on SHEPARD...I hate him because he cheated...period.
And agreed, Vega and Cortez's conversations helped make both of them feel more real. They're the embodiment of the Those Two Guys trope, they're like a buddy cop spinoff waiting to happen.

I actually liked that about him. We've got plenty of jokesters, some people straddling the line between jokesters and more serious types, but not a lot of real stoics. And the ones we do have (Javik, Samara, Thane) were all so... severe. The Mad Hanar wrote...
The only problem I had is he seemed a little...serious, if that's the word. He never really joked around that much. I suppose that's what professionalism is about though.

I liked the fact that he was the only one who backed your dancing in the Citadel DLC?

I quite liked having a serious character on the Normandy, doesn't matter what orientation they are. Also you get to see Cortez relax more during Citadel. So, whatever. Sometimes you will only see what you want to see.

Steve Cortez is entirely unlikable with no redeeming qualities to what small amount of character he has. He was poorly voice acted, had a terrible backstory, and served no purpose beyond another MM interest for Shepard. There isn't an iota of him that is even remotely interesting.
Every time I spoke with him, he was constantly playing the depressed gay guy card which I found to be an uniteresting and not very unique way to introduce a homosexual character. For me, he really brought the story down and I avoided speaking to him after my second Shepard.
Anyone else avoid him for similar reasons?
Note: I do see Steve Cortez as a missed oppurtunity. Bioware had the chance to introduce a relatable character who happened to be gay but it was squandered.
Soooo. A man who is depressed over losing his spouse is playing the "depressed gay card"?? The things you read on this forum.

He backed up my Shepard when even her boyfriend was making fun of her.

Steve was a good addition to the crew and it was nice to have another voice in missions and on the ship.
The only problem I had was the forced and cringe-worthy reaction to his crash by my male Shepard. It appears only one line was recorded whether you were friends or lovers and it is very abrupt. STEEEEEEEEEEEVVVVEEEEE.
It wouldn't bee so bad on its own if Shep didn't follow it up with a monotone "Are you sure?"

He is a fine guy, he worries about the squad and his banter with Vega is pretty good.
Also, there is something I really like about how he was treated:
He is not a gay character, he is just a normal guy who happens to be gay.

I don't go anywere near the DA2 forums anymore. Months ago there was some seriously inappropriate threads going on and it made a bad impression.

I KNOW that I find the "ME3 Triangle" of Vega, Cortez and Traynor too boring to listen to them at all after the first playthrough *Citadel notwithstanding*. I don't think the VA was bad though, just a bland biography.

Shuttle had a VI. It talks to you a couple times, I know once on the mission with the virus infected mechs.

I remember seeing a story on TV...some filmography about something....I forget it was a while back. Anyway, it said how Seth Green complained and whined and threatened to quit the movie or something along those lines "Enemy of the State" b/c he wanted his character to have more backstory and more lines and all that.
His character was short of a friggin extra or something. He had not proven himself yet...still hasn't, but in any case....you don't do that without proving yourself to be worhty of that sort of thing.
And the way he acts....every role I've ever seen him in...he's so cynical. I've seen him in interviews and whatnot and he's just an ass. He just comes accross as the kind of guy who wants to control things but doesn't take into consideration that there is a pecking order.
His brand of comedy is all over Joker....and it just doesn't fit the tone of any of the games. I wouldn't put it past him if he was like "Lemme do my jokes!!! Trust me!!!"
He is the boil on ME serie's butt.

His background his average. He has nothing special to report. He didnt fly against sovereign. He's just a skilled alliance pilot who happens to be gay.
I always took him as what it would be like if you could get to know every crewmember serving aboard the normandy. Nothing special, no notable accomplishments. Just regular people, good at their jobs, with everyday stuff in their history.
I love the everyday stories you find in the game. Adds meat to the experience.

So is it seth you don't like, joker, or both?
I like the concept of jokers character. Was well directed in ME1, pretty decent in ME2 with some leak from green himself, and a valiant attempt at expanding the character in 3 with a lot of green takeover.
I agree, I don't care for green myself, but I do like the character concept of joker.
