Steve Cortez is the sorriest excuse for a character to ever grace the Mass Effect series, brought ME3's story down a lot...

It seems like we can never have a mature discussion on a gay character.

Steve never actually makes a pass at BroShep, right? I thought that Shepard was the one that made a pass at him... After helping him over grief. (Who's the creeper?)

Nope. He doesn't. Shepard has to make the first move.

this thread reminds me of the thread which made it sound like the Leviathan DLC was a "Steve DLC" because he talked and had a scene in the trailer.

haha, your opinions are much more hated and creepy than his "gayness."

Either flirt with him or tell him you're straight.

Creepy gayness? I don't recall Steve trying to hit on my male Shepard even once, and I did all the dialogue with him that was available.

Steve is honestly one of my favorite characters. The comraderie between him and femShep is really something nice to see. And when I was playing my Thanemancer and trying to stay loyal to Thane, Steve was kind of a godsend (along with James and Garrus). It was nice to have somebody to talk to, that I didn't have to dodge a romance with.

Also to the person who said they nuked Kaidan on Virmire to avoid being ninjamanced by him in ME3? Don't buy him the whiskey and you won't have any trouble. Kaidan won't flirt with you won't even bring up the possiblity of that kind of relationship.

You can still romance Kaidan without the whiskey if you're nice to him on Mars.

Huh? Bi Shep has the most options. Gay Shep has the fewest.

Anyway, I wanted a way to interact with Steve at Purgatory that didn't make my Shepard look like he was trying to cheat on Kaidan. Some straight Shepards wanted a way to interact with Steve at Purgatory that didn't involve oggling strippers (not everyone is into strippers). That scene is just awkward.

That was a bad decision, honestly. A romance shouldn't depend on a choice like that unless it's foreshadowed.

I like him. I always play femshep though so dunno if that changes anything. He seems to be one of the characters that generally care for shep and voices it a lot. He's calm and centered which may come off as boring for some people.

I always play as FemShep too, and I think the same thing.  His Citadel DLC scene really shows how much he cares.

I was kind of touched when he expressed his concern after some missions, like the the Ardat-Yakshi one: "Next time you plan to blow up a monastery, let me know you left the premises first.  I worry about you."

An "I stopped looking at eye candy" option for Shepards in relationships would've taken all the awkward out of that scene.

Steve is also one of the few people on the team who truly understands exactly what a Thanemancer is going through. Good guy that Steve.

My straight male one bonded with him over the piloting stuff. I understood his love of starfighters. And even with taking every paragon 'hug' option available, I never had to dodge a romance with him.

Definitely he isn't a 'gay character' he's just a character who happens to be gay.

I agree and that's what I liked. Being gay is not what defines the character, it's just an aspect of him that is not directly refered to in dialogue at all, it's just there and if you aren't interested in expanding that aspect (by romancing him) it does not happen.

Just to clarify what I mean exactly I'll give you an opposite example: Anders in Dragon Age 2 is not just a character that happens to be a mage, the character is defined by him being a mage, that means about everything he says and does is about mages and he won't shut up about it. If Steve was like that about being gay I would find that annoying because I am not interested, so I would probably avoid him, but that's not the case so it's fine.

He was lame. If he wasn't gay he'd get as much abuse as Allers.

I really liked Cortez!

I really felt he was a good friend to my Shepard. She helped him with his grief over his husband which I felt was important, to show the personal loss to the Normandy crew that the Reapers were causing.

I also like the interaction between him and James, you could see they were such good buddies.

You realize that Allers is mostly hated because of the circumstances?
