So my Xbox power box (not the Xbox itself) broke and it'll be at least a week before I can get another one in the mail, so I decided to dig out my N64. While I may not have known what people were saying (didn't know any English then), I did enjoy playing Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Super Smash Bros, and Paper Mario growing up on my N64. Goldeneye too. And I definitely could never forget Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie.
I loved my N64 and had a lot of fun playing it. I also remember going through a lot of controllers growing up, I broke more than I can remember. I think around eight? Then they came out with that Expansion Pack for certain games.
Unfortunately my parents weren't too big on the idea of gaming so they got rid of it.

So does anyone else have any fond memories of this N64?

I'm playing Ocarina of Time first, although I did start Paper Mario but wasn't in the mood for it.

Too young for N64, earliest memory is Star Wars on PS1.

Oh geez, the N64, probably my favourite console ever. Didn't have a lot of third party titles as I recall but it honestly didn't need them, the second and first party titles were so great it just didn't matter. Let see, some great games on N64 that I had...

Super Mario 64
Wave Race 64
Lylatwars (Starfox 64 for you US folk)
GoldenEye 007
Diddy Kong Racing
Mario Kart 64
Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Pokemon Stadium
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire
Banjo-Kazooie
F-Zero X
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon
Turok 2
Jet Force Gemini
Donkey Kong 64
Mario Party
Super Smash Brothers
Perfect Dark
Zelda: Majora's Mask
Banjo-Tooie
Pokemon Snap
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Pokemon Stadium 2
Resident Evil 2
Paper Mario
Sin and Punishment (if I can count me getting it through Wii Virtual Console)

However if there was one criticism against it that would have to be the controller. Honest.y all Ninty console were pretty good untill the screwup that was the Wii, and even that had some pretty good titles like Xenoblade Chronicles.
And then we get to the handhelds, which have been consistently great since day one, with a slight dip during the GB Colour's time and the launch of the 3DS which has since recovered. Hopefully the Wii U will recover from its launch eventually, though I digress, I'm talking less about the N64 and more Ninty in general here.

I was 'bout to come in here and slap somebody. Luckily, this thread seems to be positive. Also RE2 came out on N64? I didn't know that.

Still own two N64s. That is the console that got me into major gaming. A lot of games that came out for the N64 were definitely ahead of their time.
Games were also more difficult back then.

Perfect Dark
Conkers Bad Fur Day
Mario Cart
Super Smash Bros
Zelda Ocrina of Time
Majoria's Mask
Hexen
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter
Turok 2: Seeds of Evil

The list goes on. The N64, in my opinion, helped shaped the video game industry.

I will never forget it nor give it up.

I would type more, but Im on my phone and too inebriated for this discussion. I'll check it later.

I know, the title seems a tad misleading. But yeah, there totally was. It even had some extra stuff not in the PS1 version, like extra files plus different outfits, all while retaining the FMV's from the PS1 version. I think it might be the biggest game on the N64.

I have a great amount of nostalgia for the console. My family & I played exorbitant hours of time on Super Smash Brothers. Ocarina of Time is a classic, and Banjo-Kazooie helped grow my hunger for easter eggs/item collection/goofy humor. Super Mario 64 was also a gem.

Actually you just made me remember we borrowed Bomberman 64 from some guy who I can't remember for a while. Played it to death for the time we had it.

I still consider Banjo-Tooie to be an example of how to do a perfect sequel.

"Worst console ever". Those phrases shouldn't even be near each other.

Outside of a somewhat slogging frame rate, they did nail it. Wacky level design, crazy twists, and more of the good stuff.

What in sacrilegious thread title hell is question?

Certainly got our attention. The real answer is here.

It just occurred to me, as a PC gamer, that I don't have the same sense of nostalgia that console gamers do for their old hardware. To me, a PC from the N64 era is just an obsolete piece of junk, no matter how fond I was of the games I played on it. It's rather interesting how different types of gaming hardware are perceived.

Ha. I love you.

The Virtual Boy is always the first thing to come to mind in debates of "worst console."

The N64 is far from the worst thing to happen.  Many games that defined 3D gaming made there home on the N64 (many also being created by Nintendo themselves)

The only thing that the N64 had against it was probably the Cartridge media, Cartridges were still faster in terms of load times and data reading compared to CD's at the time but since CD's were much cheaper to produce with better cost/storage capacity ratio that caused some 3rd parties to hesitate.

Still some great games came out and many features that are now common place (Rumble features) either began on the N64 or they were mainstreamed by the N64.

For an obscure game I would suggest Hybrid Heaven.

Let's see... I own Ocarina of Time (it's gold!), Majora's Mask, Banjo-Tooie, Paper Mario, and Mischief Makers. Oh, and Harvest Moon. Where's Banjo Kazooie? Bah, this is going to bug me.

Super Mario 64 was good, or so I heard.

N64 era was also the Prime era for Rare games before Microsoft Got majority share.

Doom 64 was also a great early game for the system.  Levels were surprisngly deceptive and the lighting in that game was great, probably the most atmospheric Doom game made at the time.

Duke Nukem: Zero Hour was a fun original Duke game for the system (Time travel gave a lot of weapon variation.)

Fight destiny was an interesting 3D fighting game, actually allowed you to customize your move list and was based on a point system and not the normal best 2 out of 3 falls which gave it a tactical feel, do you wear out the opponent for a 4 Point finisher (Loved when I played my friend I would pull a quick 3 point counter when thry tried)or do you try for a quick choke out for 2 points.  Plus you could fight a cow.
