I want to do a full tirlogy playthrough for the ole reason to have max War Assets and be able to notice my decisions.

How big or how satisfactory is it to import a character all the way from ME1 to ME3?  It is barely noticeable, or really cool?

for me its not very satisfying, but the advantages are worth it an yes its noticeable but only in the characters an a couple of choices

As far as i recall the best outcomes for each priority in me3 are only achievable through imports, dont quote me though i may be wrong, but ive played through me3 a few times with a fresh character and well the options arent open to me as they are if i import from me1 through me2, but i may have misses things

The most 'call backs' are from ME2 to ME1. There are a couple of call backs from ME3 to ME1, but they don't have the same emotional impact. There IS a conversation with a recurring character (that I missed) which is hilarious if you've done many of the ME1 collection quests, and the resolution of that person's story is satisfying.

There is also an ME2 character you can encounter if you had a 'romance' with her in ME2. I also missed this and there are a couple of different ways this character's story can conclude.

For me...it's rewarding in the fact that you're actually continuing your Shepard's story across three games.

I can never start a new playthrough without starting from ME1 and on.

Well I deleted ME2 and 3 save files, so I've no choice.

Plus it is nice to see the background of Shepard's original actions, as well Kaiden, Ashley, Garrus, and this 'Wrex' fellow everyone's been talking about.

There are some obvious mistakes or misses when it comes to ME3 reflecting your choices throughout ME1 and ME2. I suggest you always save the Rachni Queen and keep the Collector Base intel. Those things have dissapointing outcomes if you do it the other way around.

It is so much more rewarding to start from Mass Effect 1 and play all the way through Mass Effect 3.

For me the difference was quite noticeable. I played Mass Effect 2 and 3 first before ME1 because ME1 wasn't available on the PS3 at the time, but when it was released and I played through it until ME2 I noticed a lot of extra dialogue and references to ME1 that just weren't there before as far as I can recall. It really helped to link the two games, and later ME3 together. :)

That's exactly what I recognized too. However, ME1 and ME2 actually do not affect the ending in ME3 (it is still A, B or C), that's the disappointing truth. Only the war assets are "important".

yes the war assets messed up the 3rd installment of the game almost as much as the ending.

But I found the play through from Me1, Me2, to be very useful if you want a few more things to do be fore the finality of the game is reached.

My favorite is still ME2. [ It would have been ME1, but for the 150 item limit, and not being able to continue as in ME2.

[ Even though I know for the most part the continuation was useless, it had potential for so much more content. If only and editor had been provided, the play could have been endless.]]

Decisions from ME1 definitely affect ME2 and ME3 noticeably--in particular Wrex, Ash/Kaidan, Council survival, and some others. The Rachnii queen is not as meaningful in later games (though you do get a nice convo on Ilium in ME2 if you save her). Importing a level 60 character from ME1 into ME2 gives a very nice bonus that saves you a lot of planet scanning. Renegade/Paragon does not matter much.

I've only just completed the trilogy for the first time (newbie here!) but it seemed like I was forever meeting people who I'd saved, done favours for or otherwise met in ME1.

I'm guessing, but I imagine that people who played ME1 when it was first released had no idea that what they did in ME1 affected ME2? If so, I expect your ME2 games were interesting! Being a latecomer, I already knew that ME1 impacted upwards so I played ME1 with outcomes in mind.
