Just finished buying and beating ME3 and all associated SP DLCs this week, and figured I would return to DA2, which I stopped playing quite a ways back, and saw there were some DLCs I do not have of it, yet my game is already probably around 40-50% in progress.

What I was curious about for DA2 and its associated SP DLCs, is whether each of the DLCs are things that I experience within the main game, or if they are standalone type DLCs as there were in DA1? I tried to read the descriptions on the DLC listing to buy the things, but they are fairly generic in telling me anything.

I do for whatever reason already have Black Emporium (I don't even remember buying it), but I do not yet have Mark of the Assassin, Legacy, or The Exiled Prince.

Figured I would want to have them all so that my saved game has all the information needed on the off chance I will need an export to any future Dragon Age games.

So again the question: Do the DLCs happen within the game itself, or are they standalones that I access after the game is already over, like you do with DA1?

Also, what order did the DLCs even come out so that I know when exporting saves from the main game to a DLC to another DLC (again like DA1), that I don't mess it up? :P

Black Emporium comes with copies of the game if you buy it new.

Exiled Prince gives you a character so obviously that is integrated into the vanilla game. Sebastian will join you in Act 2, and he has a personal mission in both Acts 2 & 3. And the Black Emporium is a shop you can visit whenever you want in the vanilla game.

Legacy and Mark of the Assassin can be played anytime starting in Act 1 (after you get into Kirkwall and have the first time jump.) And aside from items, they have zero affect on the vanilla game itself.

While they don't take place after the game ends, you can play Mark of the Assassin and Legacy after the game is over but given the end of the game, it doesn't make sense to (in my opinion). Also you would not get to use any of the items obtained in the DLC in the vanilla game then. Its not like Origins where some of the DLC took place after the game because for Origins it was a chronological story thing.

That's exactly what I was wondering about, the chronological DLCs that was happening with Origins. Okay, so just means I will need to get the DLCs and restart DA2 with me DA1 save. That works, considering I can't even remember what I did in DA2 up to the point I am at anyway. :P

Sebastian has a quest also in Act 1.

Pretty much, yes.

Legacy and Mark of the Assassin are accessed via the statues in your home (can't remember how obvious they make this in the game), so whenever you want to do them, just go to them. You can do them any time. The Exiled Prince will be triggered just by wandering around Hightown in Act 1.

Enjoy.

I got each of the quest-type DLCs (non-item-pack). Exiled Prince actually has to do with the storyline directly. Legacy and Mark of the Assassin are from statues that are VERY clearly placed in a side room with quest markers on the map itself.

I just got to Act 2 and haven't accessed the two statued DLCs though since looked at a little bit of walkthrough stuff and it seems more likely that I should do Legacy after Act 1, and possibly at the end of Act 2 or beginning of Act 3, and Mark of the Assassin probably at the same point.
