people are overly sensitive, you can choose to mute them or turn off voice volume.

I do have a mic myself but have it set to push-to-talk, the most I've used it recently is to thank someone for a rez, which is about all I hear from other people.

Is there actually a quick way to mute them on xbox? The push-to-talk system on PC sounds very sensible.
I just really don't get why people would use homophobic, racist or sexist comments. They advise not to revive a certain player because they're gay, a certain race or gender. They also relentlessly goad a certain team-member to leave because they're one (or all) of the former.
I apologise for going on about this; I just really feel strongly about it. The concept of using mics to share tactics is iniatially a good one, but it is all-too-easily abused.
I suppose that I'm not really making a good point here. There's no point in asking people to be nicer. All the people who have replied on here seem to be nice people. The bad experiences I've had are from a minority group who clearly skirt the other side of the law.
I guess that all I'd ask is that people help keep things civil. The chance to talk to people from around the world is amazing.
All in all, thanks for reading and responding - if anything this will help to raise awareness a little.

Wow, the closest to thing to "abuse" I've experienced on PC would be my friend singing.
Would've liked to hear that!

No, you are making a good point, but some people are going to be jerks no matter what you do, and that sucks.

Probably helps that I play primarily with premades and we're all competent. We tend to queue as 3 and pick up an especially fun random every now and then who proceeds to queue with us for the rest of the night.

In pugs it's rare I come across one's with a mic and it's very, very rare I hear one that is abusive, maybe three that come to mind, I simply left, the abuse was not towards me but others. Keep in mind it's the internet, a massive place and like life you will run into all kinds, just move on.

I see quite a few who smack talk at each other through the text chat though.
(different games, of course)

To me, there seems to be three type of mic users:
1. Those who are amusing and know when to talk and when not to (i.e. they don't try to play 20 Questions during the Wave 10 London hack).
2. Those who think they are amusing and believe that, despite the fact they are the only person in the room using a mic, people want to hear their running commentary and/or their obnoxiously loud music/screaming baby/yelling significant other, etc.
3. Those with the mic symbol on, but utter silence the entire match anyway.

It's like playing with a buncha bots.
I'll take that to the XBOX 9 year old screeching abominations yelling at the top of their lungs alternative.

I wish I could mute people on pc...most of the times those russians keep talking the entire match...I have to tone down the volume and as a result I often get grabbed/stabbed by banshees/phantom which I didn't hear

Anyone who makes an online game for consoles and doesn't include a way to mute individuals is dramatically unaware of the online gaming community.
