Last week on PS3:

"I maxed out the passives so it doesn't matter what my power recharge is"... said the PUG using the Typhoon and the Black Widow on the Fury. No explosions happened the entire game. The rest of the squad kept dying so I quit on wave 6. :P On the PC, I might have been in the mood to solo the entire game, but not on PS3. :P

It's not so much what they said - I don't understand Russian, but it was still amusing.

I just played a match with a couple of Russians, who just from the tone of their voices as the talked to eachother, I got the feeling were actually a couple.  And then at one point between waves, I found the two of them "kissing" in a corner.  So my QFE stuck her head between theirs, and they both burst out laughing for half of the next wave.

Now, I don't claim to be an expert at this game, but how the **** does anyone actually do that?

Well, based on what I saw, the only biotic power they had specced into was Throw. Didn't see any others being used, and as I said no biotic explosions happened the entire game... they didn't do very well. :P

It's actually not the first time I've run into a PUG like that. I remember a Condor/Reaper game on the PS3 where someone was trying to lecture me on how to Turian "properly". When I wasn't even using a Turian... oh well. They had the Javelin and the Spitfire, and said that because powers were in infinite supply, it didn't matter what the cooldown was and that they spec all their classes that way... Might have been the same person as the Fury, tbh. They hadn't even specced into Marksman on their Turian Soldier. :P

Yesterday I played a few rounds with these people who seemed to be friends, both in European timezones, then one of them had to leave for a little bit and I was left doing a duo with the one remaining. We mostly stayed silent, but after the match ended, he said something loudly in what sounded like German, then left the match.

I have no idea if he was trying to ****** me out or not, but it felt like it. >_>

He was probably just saying "good games, but got to go".

Everything in German sounds utterly terrifying if you don't speak the language.

I would agree with that, if not for the fact that he was literally shouting into the mic, and didn't sound all too happy. :x

there is a sketch from a German comedian who accurately summarizes the (terrifying and ugly) sound of the German language:

I (as a German) find it hilarious and true

Immediately reminded me of this:

Here's how Sarah Chalke (from Scrubs), demonstrated it - how even lovely chocolate soup for breakfast sounds like a threat, and affections sound scary and angry in German:

It's a misunderstanding I guess. Many Germans like sweet stuff for breakfast. But in my case, I prefer cheese and ham and such and I'd likely comment to where they can stuff their choco broth in harsh, offending manner.

Nobody takes away my smoked ham and emmental cheese!

I will never get why some people have a tendency to fall into such cliche angry german roles if they use German.

Sure German sounds harder compared to some other languages, proberbly due to its "Auslautverhärtung" (a somewhat special form of final-obstruent devoicing), but what doesn't mean that it's always angry...

Anyway for comparison:

(Btw the Finnish part sounds amazing...)

His impersonation of Queen Beatrix was still his best one, imo.

...could've been a Brummie for all we know... (anybody heard that dialect before?)

I would rather say it's the Skwerl effect : http://forum.bioware.../#entry19843827

German also falls different - hit it initially English and then swap to German onwards from 1m:40s :

Now who would object if a pug runs that by you on a mic?

This isn't true - I've felled many guys from abroad and they just fall like our guys. Just go and play defender in football (that's soccer for you ignorant transatlantic barbarians) and you'll see that pretty clearly.

umh ...touche - you're pretty effective with guy felling, then ?

seems we explored three ways of falling in 3 posts, right there ;)

Things pugs say, from an earlier game: on w11, roughly only one minute left, after he's struggled and got revived repeatedly on lolbronze, and after he dies again on the other side of the map, he bleeds out quickly, jumps on the mic to say "I didn't want this game anyway!!" and rage-quits.

Oh, it's more than true that also Finnish sounds really harsh and intimidating with our staccato-like syllables shooting out like from a Revenant, and sharp R's rolling in every other word. I guess German sounds like a lullaby compared to that - at least that's what some of my old Italian friends always say.

"Why does everyone go to the other side of the map during extraction? We spent the whole match on one side of the map then you all decide to go to the opposite side and I get boxed in and die"

This 200,000+ challenge point, know it all puggernaut was with his Russian accent first got me going when he criticized my use of warp rounds... against Cerberus (I was a Valkyrie ffs). "You need Dis Rupter for Cerberis" Oh I couldn't resist jumping on the mic after that. He literally never moved from in front of the LZ on Dagger, he only moved for the hack at the center during wave 3... that was it. Move with the team or die alone. Have I ever played platinum? NO WHAT'S IT LIKE? TELL ME ABOUT IT (insert willy wonka meme)

I challenged him to thunderdome after he said he was going to solo platinum with the juggernaut (just for me) on twitch and show me his skilllzzz. After I explained what it was... he was like nooooo. Such a letdown.

I can contribute! I wish my PUGs would socialize more, but it's probably due to my excessively outgoing personality. The last guy with a mic was complaining about getting killed, very quiet and soft. He whispered some inaudible things over the mic while I tried forcing a conversation on him. Lol I kept asking if he could hear me to make sure he was paying attention.

Next person I saw that had a mic in lobby quit out before saying anything after I blew their ear up.

I don't believe all the people saying German sounds inherently angry to people who don't speak it, because I've heard plenty of German in my life and think the "angry yelling noises" stereotype is complete horse ****, but oh well. :P

I never go on mic unless someone else in the lobby does first, since I default to assuming no one wants me to talk at them unless they indicate otherwise. And there's the matter of not being taken seriously because I'm a girl. I want people to judge me based on how poor of a player I am, not on my gender. ;)
