Damn glad I never saw the pre-EC endings.  That would have pissed me off royally.  Endings are supposed to provide finality, not that.  I wouldn't like having my Ash stranded on another planet forever either.

In my first play-through, I didn't score high enough to see anyone survive.  My game ended with the Earth destroyed, and the Normandy wrecked.  The door to the Normandy cracked open, and then the credits rolled.   I didn't even get to see my shipwrecked LI.

I think more outrage has been fueled by people from Bioware and professional game media ridiculing and patronizing people who were not happy. I know I was one of them. The original endings were bad enough without people saying how silly we are to reject the "artistic" endings.

EC made it much better, but 3 months to make an extra 5 minutes of slideshow?all of that at 1,9gb? And more patronizing and ridiculing from people now saying "you got what you wanted so shut up". That is what caused more rage and grief than the endings by themselves.

And yes if EC would have been present from the start I would not have complained that much along with many other people. I still see no logical reason why they had to kill off Shepard and give us such "Deus Ex" endings. It does not benefit the continuity if the series neither it is popular with people.

About your "*blank* deserves a better ending" banner, I bet a lot of people would love to have a "Jacob deserves a worse ending" banner to slip into the rest of the "better ending" banners sneakily.

The way the ending are delivered is an utter trainwreck. The bratalsyt is a horribly conceived and executed plot device. Thankfully there are modders who have at least been able to cut this vile cancer out of the game even if the ending will never be anywhere near the standard of earlier moments of the trilogy.
