Implementing the romances into the main plot and story would be a good thing, yes. Having the romancable characters be written as real characters with an integral role in the plot would also be a big step forward. Some characters in the BioWare games are clearly just written and implemented to be there as a (same-sex) romance option. And other characters are simply turned into (same-sex) romance options just for the sake of having more romance options. It gets to a point where almost every party member is romancable by either a male Hawke or a female Hawke, which gives me the impression everyone in Dragon Age is not heterosexual, neither homosexual, not even bisexual, but Hawkesexual.

So what you want is for them to still be s/s romance options, but not come across as having that be the reason for their existence, for... whatever reason? I don't know, I never got that impression in the slightest, so I don't really know what you're talking about.

For the sake of realism I would actually like to see LESS romancable characters in my games. I want both male and female party-members ot say NO to Hawke when Hawke tries to hit on them, like Aveline. Dragon Age would be a lot more mature with more characters like Aveline in it, characters who AREN'T into Hawke and DON'T want to get romantically involved with Hawke, for whatever reasons.

I did consider a "two straight, two gay" possibility, but the trouble is that romance is then not really an option for anyone except for bisexual players; there's only one person you can actually go for. And I think that more choice there is seen as a good thing by most.

Duh. You're telling me that as if my reply impies that the fact was lost on me. Tomb Raider being able to sale (besides being a good game) also has to do with the fact that Tomb Raider is an established IP that's been around for about 16 years. Hence my, "Dat already established name" comment.

What was lost on you is that they created a female pc many years ago which is still selling games and still people are saying that female games don’t sell.

I shouldn't have to repeat myself.

I remember playing no one lives forever many years ago... think it was released back in 2000 -ish? I enjoyed the heck out of that game and didn't care for a second that the protagonist was female. I think it depends on who you market the game to. Market a game with a female protagonist to kids and teenagers and you're obviously going to see different reactions than when marketing the same things to adults. At least..I think (hope).

Are we really asking for realism in a game with dragons and magic?

Am I the only one who likes the way things are right now, and doesn't want anything to change?

I'd at least like to have realistic and believeable characters in any fantasy.

I feel the same way. i really don't dislike how the rommances are handled and the dragon age games have always allowed you to play as a Female Protagonist so I don't see this as an issue for DA games at least.

Speaking about proper portrayal of women protagonists. I just came across this. Perhaps a bit off-topic, but still fun and interesting to look at:

What I don't understand is why mages are fine, despite being unrealistic, but the possibility that Thedas has different sexuality demographics is not. If you can accept that many people are mages, can't you accept that many people in Thedas are not necessarily heterosexual?

I think the most unusual thing about that is superhero outfits that aren't skintight. Even middle-aged men like Mr. Fantastic have those.

I love games that have female protagonists (P.N. 03, Parasite Eve 1&2, Resident Evil 0&1&2, and Metroid Prime). I didn't really care that they were female, only that the gameplay was amazing in all of them

And in my opinion, I gotta say that renegade femshep sounds a lot better than any broshep I've seen.

I think this topic is no longer DA3 related. At all.

End of line.

I ****ing hate questions like these. It's the same as saying "It's just a game, why do you care about realism?" Posted Image
