Hello again Posted Image Im currently looking to make some custom textures for my map. I have the nvidia plugin for PS but im not sure how to set up the texture. Im using 512x512 textures (for the terrain) and go to save them as .dds.. this is where it gets confusing :P What are the best settings? is there a tutorial anywhere to explain proper settings? Ive searched around a bit but couldnt find anything exact or 'to the point'  Posted Image I did manage to make 1 texture a few weeks ago that works well but now when I try to save as .dds its saving them as a normal map regardless of ANY setting I use.. I tried reinstalling the plugin but get the same effect now Posted Image

So, I guess I have 2 questions Posted Image What settings and how to save w/o it becoming a normal map.
Thanks in advance for any help and/or links!

DXT5    ARGB    8 bpp | interpolated alpha

everything else default.

That should save it as a diffuse texture.

Typical textures:

diffuse
specular
normalmap

Try this, dont know how correct it is thou

http://social.biowar.../Textureformats

The undo creating normalmaps, clik on "normal map settings" when saving. And uncheck create normal map.

Also click "image options" and pick "color map" instead of "normal map"

Sweet! thanks a bunch guys :) Im soooo tired of the standard grass texture.. lol

Also, any way to bump up the texture count from 8? Never understood why there is a limit to begin with :/

There's a limit because your graphics card has to hold all currently visible textures in memory, and a hardware shader is used to mix them on the fly. More textures -> more memory usage and slower shaders -> horribad performance.

Ciao, muh!

I refined the info on that page for you. I also moved it to http://social.biowar...Texture_Formats but I added a redirect to the old link. Additionally, I've started adding some related info about tints.

Well I did add some of the relevant info to http://social.biowar...t/index.php/TNT The rest of it was more tutorial-like in nature and fairly rambling. There is the tutorial section though I guess, so I may add it in some form.

EDIT: OK, added that to the tutorials section. Took out the info I had already added elsewhere and replaced it with links to the relevant pages.
