Genesis contradicted some plot points from the first game, making it a horrible recap.

I agree that Genesis didn't capture the true spirit behind Mass Effect 1, and in certain ways Shepard narrates things in ME1 a bit wrong, but I don't think it ENTIRELY contradicts some of the plot points.

Maybe elaborate, so that I can better understand.

Just a couple of things that annoyed me. They say the rachni queen promises to take her minions with her if she is released, despite her saying in ME1 that they can't be saved and have to be euthanized. Another thing is that Genesis says the Citadel controls several relays leading to dark space, while in the game it's established the Citadel itself is the relay into dark space. There's minor stuff as well, like Kaidan being a "good kid" despite being older than Shepard.

I haven't seen it in a long time but I remember being annoyed the entire time while watching it.

Ah yes, the comic didn't stay entirely faithful to the very specifics, it kept going forward with only general ideas of how things happened or what they meant, but the comic was okayish enough to serve as a mood-setter for ME2, at least for me.

But I get what you mean, it wasn't 100% accurate.

Surprised they didn't shut down this thread yet for telling people not to spend more money on them. Heh.

Genesis 1 on PC works for me whether or not I chose to import. If I do, its a recap a "The story so far..." if not, it works as a fastrack to ME2 without frills (Conrad Verner, Balak, Gianna, Shiala...)

If the above post about default LIs for ME2 is right, the fact that Genesis doesn't allow Jack or Miranda to be considered as LI's = *FAIL*

That alone = No buy recommendation, as if you had either as LI, the Citadel DLC romance are awesome.

So it triggers for some of you who import while it doesn't for others. Is this perhaps linked to the councilor decision? This choice was only locked in after sitting through the entire end credits, so maybe Genesis only triggers for those who skipped the credits.

No, the choice of councilor was never recorded in ME 1, regardless of skipping the credits.
With or without Genesis, only your choice in ME 2 is saved.

You do know why Genesis 2 won't play with an import right?

Genesis 1's few choices were close to the actually choices made in ME1:
ME1: Kaidan or Ashley // Save the rachni or Kill the rachni
Genesis 1: Kaidan or Ashley // Save the rachni or Kill the rachni

Therefore, Genesis 1 could serve as a recap for any save file.

Genesis 2's few choices are an abstraction of the actually choices in ME2:
ME2: Recruit everyone but forgot Samara & Kasumi // upgraded Normandy before I got IFF, so I can save crew immediately // upgraded Normandy before I got IFF, but needed to get Legion & Tali's loyalty so crew died // resolved Tali & Legion's conflict but not Miranda & Jack's
Genesis 2: Recruit everyone or only some // improved Normandy or rescue crew // resolved all conflicts or ignored them

Therefore, Genesis 2 can not serve as a recap for any save file because the choices are simplifcations of the actually myraid of choice combinations.

The DLC is just for posterity. That said, this should be free (like the Extended Cut) and a note telling people to download this should be included in all new copies of ME3. As it stands, very few people will buy this and the target audience of this DLC--newcomers--will not know this thing even exists. Why would a newcomer go immediately to the DLC list and read each description until they find this? The majority of newcomers probably don't know about DLC for ME3 period, much less which ones to buy. The only ones who know about this DLC are the hardcore who don't need this and are expecting a save file editor.

Huh. As a PS3 player Genesis was skipped for me when I imported an ME1 save for the first time.

Please don't murder me for bumping this again, but I saw a few more threads with questions that may be answered by simply looking at this thread.

I hope they release a patch soon to fix this and that Leviathan bug that affects the ending.

For the ME2 portion of the Genesis 2 comic:

-You can recruit every character except for Kasumi and Zaeed.
-You can gain each character's loyalty, but decisions made in the LMs are pre-determined. Maelon's data is always destroyed. Geth heretics are always destroyed. Tali is exiled.
-You have to choose between upgrading the ship and or saving the crew (Dr. Chakwas lives no matter what).
-Peace between Geth and Quarians is still possible.
-You can romance Tali or Miranda (no Jack). You get Miranda as an option if you choose to "move on" from your previous relationship. I don't know what FemShep's options are. Garrus and Jacob are FemShep's options.
-Collector Base decision.

OP... the point of Genesis comics is to allow players to make choices without having played the previous games, and it does that well enough (of course you could achieve the same thing by using gibbed but hey, a nice graphical comic is not unwelcome).

If you want a recap then Genesis is not for you, but that's not exactly the fault of the comic.

I'm a ps3 player so maybe I'm not seeig something due to perspective, though when I saw it i immediately thought good, now my none full story based playthroughs could have key choices in, I never for one second thought that was a recap- I figured te details that the importer gives was.

on the wii u move on is miranda, choices are Ash- liara and tali
One thing I want to add from the video of it I watches is it looks so cheap compared to the genesis 1 version, one is like 16 minute- 2 is like 8 and it over simplifies everything. You can't save everybody no matter what- either your crew dies so squad mates live or your squad mates die to save the crew for lack of upgrades.

Well, seeing as the forums are going kaput soon, I'll relax my self-standard of not necroing a post.

With that said, 3 years later I got reminded of this, and it bugged me enough to do this:
