No. Not a single euro for Bioware/EA from me, simple as that.

1.  When I bought the first ME game, I had no connection to the characters, Shepard or crew.  In fact, this trend continues on through every game I've ever played that has characters including some of my MMO's.  So connection to a character isn't going to be a factor.

2.  But Rob, it's in the ME universe, how can you play a game in the ME universe that doesn't have Shep?  The same way I play games in the FR that don't have xx character in them.  Granted there isn't a wide variety of those, but, just as with any new game I pick up, there is that time that I am supposed to bond with my character.  If it happens relatively early in the game, then I play it, if not, it winds up on a shelf in my game collection, or, as with Prince of Persia and The Witcher, taking up space on my HD since I bought digital copies.

3.  I know absolutely nothing about the new IP, other than it's in the ME universe.  I don't know if it's a prequel, a sequel, or if it maybe touches on some characters that are part of, but don't really figure in to the story currently presented.  Since I know nothing about it, I can't say whether I'll buy or not.  If, for example, they made it purely MP, or an MMO, probably not.  I have enough MMO's, and I'm too old for twitch gaming, and the ME 3 MP is more shooter than anything else, which requires me to be a twitch gamer.  I can't see any future installments in ME changing up on that theme.

based on these answers, I think it's safe to say that ME4 is in trouble with the hardcore and longtime fans of the series and BioWare. It will still sell decently I think though, cause those casual fans that ME3 pulled in and the MP fans will buy it. So I think it will move probably about 70 to 80 percent of ME3's sales.

Even if ME4 ticks all the boxes and sounds beyond fantastic, I'll still not buy it on release. For me, the days of pre-orders are long gone. I don't care what extras they bundle with it as "preorder bonuses". Those days are over.

Only positive feedback from actual players of the game will get me to buy it. Journo reviews can't be trusted for a number of reasons, as far as I'm concerned.

Today, my answer is "no" : the ending of Shepard's journey let me a very bad taste in my mouth. I am very disappointed.

But my mind could change. So I think I won't pre-order new BW games anymore, and I will be waiting for the first feedback of BSN before buying them.

Mass Effect is a big universe, a lot of things to do inside, but I agree. Shepard was part of us during 5 years...

I'll not be supporting Mass Effect with my money until such time as Bioware pull the IP from the moral cesspool they left it in. Not another penny.

I won't be buying anything from Bioware/EA without knowing what I'm buying. From now on, I will most likely pirate everything and buy later if I think the product is good. That way I'll be able to reward good work and support companies that did well.

Just think ybout it. I bought the CE for 80€ god damn it! I bought it because I love the series and didn't want to miss out on the "not so plot integral bonus character" (yeah, right). It didn't have Extended Cut and it didn't have Leviathan or Citadel DLC. 3 DLCs that should have been in the game since the beginning. DLCs like Omega are fine later.

Soo there you have it. No money from me, thanks to artistic integrity!

If its always online to play - no.
If its an MMO - no.
If its a shooter with "RPG elements" like Borderlands - no (love Borderlands but ME is not the same game)
If its a similar model to the Shepard trilogy - yes, probably

I won't pre-order but will await reviews. I am a bit too pragmatic to let the last 15 minutes of the trilogy invalidate the hundreds of hours of pleasure the ME series gave me prior to that.

I see no need to spite my face so my nose remains affixed.

+1

I had a hard time with the "always online" due to my great internet shutting off and on. Though I liked the combat in me3 but I understand if its not in the game. Image IPB

Don't know enough about it to say if I'll buy it or not. All I know for sure is that it won't be a pre-order or a Day 1 purchase if I get it.

No, until they fix the ending(s) for Mass Effect 3. I'm not holding my breath and definitely not leaving the money lying around to wait.

I agree with the above statement.. Fool me once, Bioware.. but never again..

Hold the Line.. For life..

Bioware is the last and only developer i support under EA Publishing but never again a pre-order sad to say. After multiple reviews and etc if it's worth it sure. It is Bioware after all and they do produce hits once in a while always :)

I've gone from "day 1 buy" to "wait and see" because of the hastily thrown together ending to one of my favorite game trilogies and the interference from corporate overlord EA.

couldn't have said it any better. do corporations have to get their talons into everything? Edit: I'm going to do the same and wait until some reviews come out before I even consider buying it. The game gets good reviews from beginning to end then I might.

Not planning to, not keen on giving them another penny, but if it sounds like it's actually very good I may change my mind. It will have to be very good indeed though to overcome the dissapointment of ME3 and the additional rubbish EA is bound to foist on it (such as having to be always online for an essentially single player game, I'm very hard pressed to tolerate that and it's why I've not bought Sim City).

Though I think the idea that there is no Mass Effect without Shepard is a limited one at the very least, I'm unwilling to support a cash grab and will wait to buy it, and will most likely buy it used.

Probably not. Certainly not preorder/day 1.

I feel that ME3's ending ruined the series with the Starchild.

I'm going to sit on the fence for a while. Other developpers are putting forward some promising games, some of them actually of the kind that interests me...

http://eternity.obsidian.net/

I will certainly NOT buy the next ME if:

1) I have to be online to play. I travel around in remote areas too much to be connected (no, I won't pay satellite phone rates to play a game while I'm in the arctic for a month...),
2) It abandons the RPG/storytelling single-player campaign for a multi-player centered experience.

While I still enjoy ME3 multiplayer and consider it the most esthetically-pleasing 3rd-person shooter out there, it's not what attracted me to the IP.

I MAY buy the next ME if:

1) It's not a prequel

2) It's set far enough in the future to make Shepard's story a half-forgotten myth; allowing for a merging of all three outcomes down the following centuries (Reapers destroyed or migrated to another galaxy, etc...)

3) Has new, engaging characters that will make me want to love/loathe them as much as the previous ones Bioware has created in the past.

Like any other game, depends on if it looks like it's going to be any good.

Pretty much this.
