So yeah, I started a Big Boss Hard Difficutly of MGS 4. And I am just getting merked left and right. Holly Sh!t. I'm not a n00b at the series, far from it. What's so silly about it is that I just played MGS HD collection about 3 months ago and beat Snake Eater on Hard!!! WTF. I'm getting pwnd hard in MGS 4. Grant it, I haven't played it since like the begining of 09', but c'mon. WTF. So I'm asking for helpful advice. I'm currently in ACT 2 right before assaulting the compound with Meril in it. It's taken me almost 11 hours to get there!!! WTF. Help. I know you only get 3 rations. That's fine. But the alerts and enemie AI is just beast. Way.WAY harder that solid normal. Help. Snake!!!! Snake!!!!!!!
But seriously help.

Got it back in '10. That's also the last time I played MGS4.
But... IIRC, the best way to do it is just to tranq everyone that the Rat Patrol don't cap themselves, and just stay low and camo with the environment to ensure you don't die, seeing as how you're low on rations.

You, that tetra ninja guy on youtube, my uncle- been a MGS fan since the first 1, and my best friend are the only people I know who have beaten the game without killing anyone on Boss hard to get the emblem. My god, that is just beast. How long did it take you?

I did a practice run on Big Boss hard before I started up my actual The Boss Extreme Big Boss emblem rank run.
I recall that I couldn't get past Crying Wolf for some reason; she kept spotting me.
The practice run took just over 5 hours. About 5: 48 or something. To get the Big Boss emblem you need to complete it in less than 5 hours w/o killing any bosses (you're allowed to kill Vamp fyi, but not the B&B unit bosses).
The actual run took me about 3 & a ½ hours.

I did the same but it took me about 4 hours 5 minutes. One of the few games I cared about enough to get the highest score. I've considered doing another few runs because of the trophy patch though.

I beat it on The Boss Extreme like a year after it came out. Took me about 2 hrs 40ish minutes.
From what I recall, the assault on the compound with Meryl was the toughest part for me, along with the motorcycle chase in Act 3.

Especially if you're not killing anyone. Otherwise, it's a nice bit of fanservice to MGS3 fans.

Stun grenades and Tranq darts.
And the darts were always in short supply along with chaff grenades.
