Maybe an old thread but to hell with it...all of them are pretty much.

< Primarily Slayer player, honed skills with Melee build and finally decided to change my build up am now using BC/6, BS/4, PD/4, N7/6, Fitness/6(Melee). Originally played without PD at all but this new build is working very well for me it's just like...a upgrade to a more intense playing style with the Melee build.

Playing the Slayer like this is difficult, recommend honing skill mostly focused on Melee fighting, get use to knowing your surroundings...at all times...so on.

Bioware this is my dream ME character both Multiplayer wise and would be Campaign wise, aka bring him back in the next game.

I like him...tho he's seeing less playing time than my beloved Phoenix....he's an all around better character than the phoenix, but something about the phoenix is just addicting. The Slayer is a good character with decent power output and high survivability.

Needs to be on host, lag is the bane of these types of characters.

Have to play on host.
After a game or two of complete and total annihilation of everything walking it gets boring.

OP, the N7 Slayer is underused because 2 of his Powers (Biotic Charge and Phase Disruptor) are on-host dependent, which become severely gimped when off-host. And his 3rd Power (Biotic Slash) is just annoying and cheezy.

I guess I'll be the first to say it, it's because of host.

Because he sucks. I can set up the Slayer and Shadow exactly the same, max all 3 of their powers, 5 levels of fitness and 3 in the class tree, and be in the lead in points during most of a gold match with the Shadow but die constantly in a silver match with the Slayer. I like the Slayer's powers but without TC he's just too squishy.

sorry i dont mean to be an **** but you're using him wrong if you can't stay alive with him on silver.

use this build, and follow my playstyle below, and tell me the slayer sucks

OT: Yeah the Slayer is my favourite kit in the game. I skip Biotic slash completely and just shoot, charge, phase disruptor, repeat.  The only problem is I hate playing him off-host. And unless I already have a friend or two in my lobby, it takes for ever for PUG's to join my lobby <_<

Sorry, but you're very likely not playing the N7 Slayer right.

Biotic Charge makes squishy kits tanky.  Case in point:  see the Asari Vanguard, and specially the Drell Vanguard.  In fact, it's what makes the DrellGuard a boss.

I am trying a melee build which is very fun, but not very efficient...  the heavy melee teleport and behead is so fun...

Maybe you're right and I'm playing him wrong but I can hold my own with the basic human, Krogan and Phoenix vanguards but with the Slayer I suck.

Gotta host. Even when I do see them the people playing are way to cautious. If you can charge it you can kill it before it kills you.

are you playing off host?

Yeah, my internet connection is horrible for hosting.  The lag is so bad for everyone else I might as well just play solo.

thats why you're not doing great with him. If you play him off host he's not great. Phase disruptor has a delay between hitting the bumper and it actually shooting. Charging can screw up as well.

Then I guess I'll just get the last 2 extractions I need for his challenage on bronze and forget about him.

Really you can say that about any vanguard off host. They are... moody off host. Once you figure out how to adjust to it being off host however generally they work out alright.

The only problem I have with him (which is quite crucial) is how poor the heavy melee is - meaning that it is not wise to spec into a full melee build with him.

Taking that into account, the playstyle boils down to a combination of charge, PD, and spamming light melee, with liberal dodging - effective but a bit mindless.

i never melee with him at all. PD and BC are all you need with him. No joke

Which for me is even more boring - at least the light melee, besides being defensive also adds variety to his attacks.

I would like to play him solely as a melee build, but it is a joke compared to the shadow melee.
