I have a dilemma in BGEE. For now, my party is as follows:
Me (LG Fighter, dual-wielding longswords)
Jaheira
Khalid
Minsc
Dynaheir
Coran
I wanna take Yeslick, so I have to drop somebody. I'm thinking about Minsc or Khalid. Minsc is supposed to be a great damage dealer, but my Khalid is surprisingly strong - he almost always beats Minsc in fights one-on-one.
Minsc actually needs heavy buffs to beat him. But Minsc has Free Action (from Spider's Bane), can carry more, and I like his personalty better. What should I do?

Either character would easily work. This is a game right? Pick who would be more fun. If you like Minsc, go ahead and use him. Since you are a full party, there's no need for an "optimal" setup, a balanced party like you have can always get the job done if they use the tools they have. Also, since many people have defeated BG 1 solo, there's no reason a full party can't do it, regardless of characters or classes you choose for it. I did an all paladin party before (6 paladins) and they beat BG 1 just fine, even though they weren't balanced.

EDIT: I assume you know Jaheira will leave too if you kick out Khalid, so you have to do tricks to keep her and not Khalid...like letting Khalid die, and just don't bother resurrecting him and removing from group. Or my favorite tactic, send Khalid by himself in to the lotus petal tent at the Carnival and remove him - voila room for Yeslick - just don't ever go into that tent again of course.

I'll assume you've already long since made your choice but this is a fun question nonetheless, so I'll weigh in for what it might be worth.

I've come to a point where I have figured out two things from my gaming perspective if you play these two NPCs pretty much in their vanilla personas, i.e. Minsc a Ranger w/2HS and Khalid a Fighter w/LSwd & LBow.

1) Minsc is just NOT ALL that! If I hear him whine about that hamster becoming an orphan one more time....

2) Khalid gets better and better as he goes. I'm playing the 'stock' Khalid now, and true to form, he is lethal w/his Long Bow and not half bad w/his LSwd.

Of course, C_R points out the drawback that either one you choose is Batman to a Robin, so either Dy or Jaheira will pack it in unless you do the evil thing and let them die and forget to go to a temple. Since I'm always Lawful and Good that option doesn't play in to my thinking. Never heard about the other option before - it's like 'ding, dong, ditch in reverse.

My final thought is about Yeslick. I always wanted to play him, back to the LG hang up I have, but he was just irritating to play. I made it thru but he's irritable and annoying and not nearly the Dwarven stud I pictured, i.e. Gimli from Lord of the Rings.

Time to shut up.
