The title explains it all really.
The ability to choose the name of the starship, that our next hero may use.
For example, Bioware could give us a list of names(say four or five) and we could pick which ever takes our fancey, just like in oblivion you could choose you're champion name after finishing the arena matches.
What dose everyone else think on the matter?

No thank you. I ultimately don't care about the name of my ship. The Normandy could have been The Poopchugger for all I cared lol.

That would be cool. But that would require so much more voicework. Considering the amount of voice work done in ME1 compared to TES4 it would really be a lot of work. But quite cool if true. However i doubt that ME4 will be same kind of game. What we will probably see is either some kind in between 2183-2186. Or in the reaper war. I just dont see how they are going to follow their clusterfrack.

I just hope we're not limited by the Alliance's horribly boring naming system for ships.

Perhaps it will have a name that connects to the past games slightly Starship Vakarian sounds cool

I propose the name Odessity for it.
But who cares. Name is second-rank for me.

It doesn't really bother me. As long as the ship name is somewhat unique.

Too much problems with it - not only different versions of voiceowork, but also cinematics with ship in action.

Every time the name is mentioned in the script, they'd have to record the entire line once for each name. They can't just swap in the word and have it sound natural. Also, space combat is much easier to accomplish via CG and if the name is written on the hull, that's a problem. Same reason we can't have ship customization.
I wish you could pick a favorite weapon and apply a pre-determined name to it, though. There would be no choice of names and it would be mentioned in dialogue when appropriate. The choice you would have is which weapon to name or whether you want to name a weapon at all. Maybe give some kind of stat bonus with it.

I think the OP has basically summed up all that can be said. It would be a cool option, the only issue would be with the voice acting. If they end up doing a Origins story for the next Mass Effect, then they would already have at least 6 different player voices if they choose the spectre races (2 human, 2 turian,1 asari, and 1 salarian), however I'm unsure if having each of them go through a set of lines for all the different ship names at that point would be easy, or complicate things.
The other issue would be if players actually cared enough about that issue (which it seems like most don't) and if the developers could successfully implement it as more than a gimmick. If they don't, it'll be just like the null choice in Bioshock Infinite, where you choose which broach for Elizabeth to wear. It stays constant for the rest of the game, but comes down to having no meaningful outcome.
