Where do you find the Citadel DLC best fits?

I know many of us have mentioned that the Citadel DLC feels out of place with regards to the rest of ME3, but where do you think it fits best?

I think (and incidentally this was the first place I played it), that it fits best immediately after Thessia. Not only for the contrast, but because of how concerned everyone is with Shepard's mental state immediately following his/her defeat by Kai Leng. Joker states that even Anderson is quite concerned, which fits nicely with Citadel given that he is the one who gifts Shepard the apartment.

As for putting off Horizon, I've never really felt that the urgency expressed by the crew post-Thessia was present when they actually got to Horizon, so it feels like a good place for something to happen in between.

Here's my DLC map for now:
Earth
Mars
Menae
Eden Prime
Grissom Academy
Sur'Kesh
Utukku
Tuchanka
Citadel Coup
Mesana
Omega
Mahavid
Arrae
Namakli
Rannoch
Thessia
Citadel
Horizon
2181 Despoina
Party
Cronos Station
Earth

Citadel after Rannoch, before Thessia.

Party after the ending.

The only issue I have with doing something between Rannoch and Thessia is that it makes it feel like the reason Shepard got to Thessia too late was the DLC. I remember feeling bad about it for Leviathan, so I imagine it would seem downright cruel for Citadel.

I did the Citadel before Rannoch, after some of the sidequests that unlock post-coup. Worked for me. And it means I can spread out the various chats with squadmates during the rest of the game.

I'm thinking more in context of the DLC itself - Citadel isn't a very serious DLC at all. Rannoch ends on a high, positive note (providing you got peace obviously) so following up from that with the lighthearted Citadel DLC feels right to me.

The whole thing with arriving late to Thessia never bothered me in the slightest so I can't relate to that.

I think it works right after the Citadel Coup...

- Shepard just got the aid of the Council Races and The Krogan, meaning a large part of his objective, building alliances, has been completed at this point.

- The Council just had an attempt on their life and Kai Leng escaped. The Citadel is not secured, making it a good idea to stay on the Citadel for awhile.

- In a game optimal situation, Thane and Mordin just died. Far worse outcomes could have occurred, including the Death of Eve, Shooting Mordin in the back and having to kill the VS. Shore leave makes sense at this point for Shepard to clear his head and maintain his sanity.

- The Citadel reeling from the Cerberus Coup makes it vulnerable to attack, opening a window of opportunity for Brooks to initiate her plan to replace Shepard with a human supremacist duplicate.

- Shepard and crew just shot and killed the human Councillor to protect some aliens, providing plenty of motivation for Brooks to initiate her plan to replace Shepard with a human supremacist duplicate ASAP.

- It turns the Citadel Coup into a Citadel Arc

- Additional post-clone story content can be spread out along the second half of the game.

The only issue with that is that you don't have Tali. I'm not a Talimancer, but her "you broke their floor" line is worth waiting imo.

Citadel should be post destruction ending.
Shepard is released from hospital. Normandy have came back from the we-really-still-don't-know-why-the-ship-end-on-this-forsaken-planet and need reparations.
the recreation part of the Citadel has already being repaired, or was never touched by the destruction of the Casper, and the crew want to have fun with Shepard.

simple as that.

Put Desponia after Thessia. RP it as Shepard's desperation fueling the search for alternative solutions.

Omega right after the Citadel Coup.

It fits best there because your character would have a good reason to be looking for some payback against Cerberus, and it is implied that Cerberus was using Omega as a launch pad for further attacks throughout the galaxy. Maybe the coup attempt was launched from there.

The mission portion of the Citadel DLC right after Rannoch.

If you play it after Rannoch you have all your squadmates. Also the Normandy potentially sustains damage in its encounter with the Rannoch Reaper, making sense of Hackett's dialogue about the ship needing repairs.

The squadmate 'dates' portion of the Citadel DLC in between side missions like Lessus, Ontarom, and Cyone.

I think they fit in best before the party.

The entire Leviathan DLC in one back-to-back setting immediately after Thessia.

By saving Leviathan for post-Thessia the chat with the Prothean VI still makes sense. There are some issues with that chat if you've already completed Leviathan and know both what the Catalyst is, and the origin of the Reapers. The DLC really doesn't fit in anywhere except post-Thessia.

Also it works as a desperate Plan B, in the wake of the defeat on Thessia and the loss of the Prothean VI.

The party 'finale' of the Citadel DLC played right before Cronos.

The dialogue in the farewell on the Normandy dock makes the most sense if it occurs right before heading into the end run.

Before Cronos. Throw a party before the final battle with friends that might not make it (In a hypothetical situation)

I'm thinking Coup > Jacob/Brynn > Visit Anderson's place/Silversun Strip > Omega > Brooks/EvilShep >>> Horizon > Party.

You should put Eden Prime after Mennae...
Otherwise you miss EDI's lines about Javik not understanding separate sex restroom facilities, and Garrus's concerns over Javik's diet...

Thanks; last time I played it I did Eden Prime right after the Citadel Coup, so I didn't know that would block it.

Also, I remember Shepard's incredulousness at the prospect of controlling Reaper Troops during Horizon to seem off after Leviathan, so I moved 2181 Despoina to after Horizon.

Save it all for after Sanctuary so you get the most content, but leave something to do between the Party and Cerberus HQ. I recommend the last Leviathan missions myself.

As an aside, I find the various conversations on the Citadel are best done after N7 missions...
Most people on the Normandy other than Javik/EDI/Cortez have nothing to say to you...

Or pretty much any time you don't have any cutscene conversations on the Normandy, you can squeeze one or two citadel conversations in there...

Make an extra save before attacking the Cerberus HQ, play through the ending, then come back and play the Citadel DLC. That's the perfect ending and perfect spot for the Citadel DLC for me, especially when MEHEM is installed as well.

The Citadel DLC also doesn't mention the war with the Reapers at all really, so that's how it works there too.

I always do Thessia, Ardat Yakshi Monastery and the Asari/Turian Cyone fuel reactor together...
Make it into a little Asari-Reaper arc...

Err...yes it does. A lot. The very first thing you do is get greeted by Anderson from war-torn London. And the war is specifically referred to in present-tense. It is not a thing that happened, it is still happening. You're just getting away from it for a bit.

Horizon-Citadel (Perfect time for a Normandy overhaul and crew recharge, ready for the final fight)- mehem ending-party.
